Especially if they've fallen and they can't get up!
It makes for a good guy video. If it's on UA-cam it must be true😂😂😂😂
Old lady here!! I owned a antique shop. I would get old Bakelite (100yr old plastic) appliances, mostly tabletop radios. They would be oxidized with a white film. I would use "Mothers Mag", you gear heads, muscle car enthusiasts remember this. It was used to polish chrome wheel mags. A very fine abrasive. It revived the color and shine. Same concept.
I used that before also years ago, never on headlights, maybe I'll try it.
Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish is cheap and works great. A very small amount will get the job done, and fast. It may harm other surfaces, though, and you'll want to really rinse it off and then (if it's an outdoor item like a headlight) seal the cleaned surface with some UV protectant.
Thanks for your post and thanks for helping your neighbor. Especially now, our country needs more good people like you.
Thanks Gabe
I appreciate you helping a senior out... I wish there were more people like you.. God bless..
Hey, I'm 82 and you helped me, too. I just ordered the compound and cloths. Many thanks!!!

Hey man, it's great to see a real nice guy helping an 80 year old senior citizen! Thank you for your very simple and informative video! God bless you brother!
Did all of mine today in under 30 minutes for 3 vehicles. I did an extra step of sealing them with Maguire's product. It worked!!!!
Thank you for helping your elderly neighbour. You're a great human being!
You're a stand up guy for helping your neighbor thanks for the tip
Thank you so much. I have tried the gimmicks, you are the man. I have shown everyone your tip. It took me 10 minutes and used it on one of my cars and my daughters. Almost bought new headlamps. You saved me $1000
bam!! it works doesn't it!!
I'm 70 and I definitely could use your help! THANKS for the info. I'm gonna do it!
Just happened upon this video of yours; unfortunately, I'd recently just restored mine by wet sanding (400/600/1200/2500), followed by three coats of Rust-Oleum Matte Clear Coat for plastic (with UV protectant, non-yellowing formula), then using car wax to finish it off...ala ChrisFix.
You have a knack for doing video. Impressed by your very friendly and professional demeanor.
Thank for sharing.
Hey, how’s that holding up??
I saw this on 3/14/23…. During my lunch hour and could hardly wait to try this on my wife’s 2010 Subaru Outback. I had some Turtle Wax Compound paste… so not the 3M liquid… But with 2 applications per headlight… hand rub and hand buffing… and Wow, what an improvement! They don’t look “like new”, but definitely a tremendous improvement. I know the night driving & rainy day driving safety level went up substantially AND that is absolutely worth the 20 minutes it took. Thanks for sharing this info.

Have to say I was a little skeptical. Watched the video a couple of times and thought "Why not...?" Bought it, did exactly as shown, got PERFECT results !! The lights on my 1999 Accord, which have never been polished or replaced, now look brand new !!! Did them twice, to make sure I didn't miss any spots, all in less then 15 minutes. One thing I would suggest is to always record your interactions with the elderly and encourage them to share their memories on video. Not only are they not going to be here much longer, but they have priceless knowledge and experience to share!

Great to hear! Now remember you'll have to clean them again in about 6 months....others have suggested spraying clear coat paint...id' be weary of that since the paint will flake eventually and make a huge mess! Thanks for the kind comment!
@Terry Hardin mine are so very foggy..so are you saying this actually worked??? cause replacing the lens on my suv is very tedious and costly......HELLLLPPPP
Thank you so much for standing up helping an elderly neighbor in need. Thanks again and God bless
I'd just like to make some constructive criticism. The compound won't soak into the plastic, it contains a very fine grit, similar to soft scrub cleaner for bathrooms. This grit essentially sands the oxidized layer of plastic off as well as lightly polishing the layer that becomes exposed. Also as a correction, THIS IS NOT PERMANENT. From the factory a layer of UV protection is applied to the surface reducing the time that the sun and elements breakdown the plastic. The process shown in this video will eventually and more rapidly allow for the oxidation to return (depending on the weather in your area). If you'd like for it to last longer, you can purchase a uv protectant spray from your local auto parts store that will add a bit more protection and longevity to the restored plastic. Otherwise this is 100% temporary even with the spray
Does it make a huge difference if you wet sand them first with p500 p800 p3000?
@@LuisRodriguez-fd4sy Just saw Chris Fix do this on his channel.
@@LuisRodriguez-fd4sy I they're in really bad shape, wet sand with 800 / 1000/ 1500/ 2000 paper. Rubbing compound is far too fine fix bad lenses. It's for restoring the shine after sanding.
bet your a joy at parties
@@cyborgclarke "Hey, here's a correction and something to do to for a more permanent solution to the problem"
You: What a dick.
Seriously?
Thank you so much for the video. I am also 80'ish and this is so much easier than going through several other processes before cleaning the headlights. I once had a car to trade in and the dealer docked me on headlights that were cloudy! So, this is wonderful to have a one stop process.
I use some leftover (old) chrome polish in a can. In 2 years, do it again. No big deal, no fancy 5 minute video which got 4.4M views in 3 years. Gee Whiz.
@cliffontheroad Then why would you click on a link to the video? I typically don't click on tutorial videos about things I know how to do, but if I do, and watch it fully and then complain about the length of the video, well that sounds like a "you" problem. The great thing about UA-cam is that we are free to stop watching a video at any time or post our own. But how many views are totally dependent upon who decides to watch it, and how popular a channel is probably contributes to the algorithm of order it shows up in the list.
@@PaulineAH people are just dumb that’s all. This video is simple and yes I’m sure it’s temporary but it’s good enough for me.

THIS IS THE BEST ONE YET. THANK YOU. NICE OF YOU TO HELP YOUR ELDERS.
Compound is not a water repellent. The fact that you make it glossy helps it to repair water or the appearance of. But once the sunlight starts getting to it it's going to start fading even faster than it did without any protection. You must put a protective coating over that plastic. The Maguire's clear coat coating is one of the best, the dupli color high gloss clear is pretty good as well.

Just dont but the Turtle Wax lenses cleaner with a 5 step process, it even comes with light sanding paper. It sucks big time, no difference at all even when using a buffer.
This was a great video, need to buy me some of that stuff to make my moms car lights better for her when she drives . The Turtle Wax 6 step crap with sand paper sucks . I'm going on Twitter and letting them know how I really fell . Lol The lubricant spray on the turtle wax brand was just water, and the other spray oil, and sand paper pads, what a damn rip off, the kit was almost 40$
Just need 91% rubbing alcohol. Much cheaper.
Nice that you help your elderly neighbour out...right on! Watched from Manitoba Canada. Take care Man!
Last year I bought the kit, used the 3 step process with the sandpaper and my headlights were about 75% clear. I just used this method with Turtle Wax rubbing compound and an electric buffer. The lights looked like new in about 2 minutes. It's a lot easier and a lot cheaper! Only a few bucks compared to $15-$20 for the specialized kit.
I used the same Turtle Wax kit. Well its great and my headlights are shiny new now, like glass. Right, the 3M is less pricy. Basically in the Turtle Wax kit there was extra fine grit sandpaper and a conserving ceramic acryl wipe.
I have used rubbing compound too with great results. It does work. Great video and thanks for helping out your elderly neighbor.

Amen!
Seriously use Colgate and a damp rag works great
@@naradenaro5218 and it's minty fresh😁. Same polish idea, but I'm not sure which is cheapest?
The one thing missing compared to a headlight restore kit is that the kit should include a UV protection coating. Without UV protection, the lens will deteriorate and its not really as "permanent" as mentioned in the video. Just getting some UV protection after this buffing and it is a proper, long lived restoration IMO.
I just watched your video on cleaning my headlamps on a 1995 Town Car and I did the same thing on the 95 but I didn't have any rubbing compound but I did use some Turtle Wax Polishing Compound and the headlamps came out beautifully. When I get my retirement on the 1st of April I will buy some of the 3M Rubbing Compound and see if I can get them to look better. I am 65 and it took no time to get them 90% better than what they were. Thank you for such a wonderful idea.
65 isn't old brother...just so ya know! Keep up the good work!
No matter how completely you polish away the UV damage (not necessarily oxidization) it will quickly return because the UV layer has been depleted and removed. I went through this process many times until I applied a UV clearcoat. This polishing lasts a few weeks at the most. Now I am finally done trying every product and method that comes along. Two years with clear headlight covers at last! Wet sand, clear coat, and forget!
UV Damage is oxidation...the sun has oxidized the outer protective layer on the lense....apply UV clearcoat and you'll have yellow headlights in 2 years...apply rubbing compound every 6 months or so and you'll have clear lights
Bless you for taking care of your neighbor !!! Yeah , let's get the glass headlights back .

You have a jolly soul. Good bless you for sharin’ & for helpin’ your elderly neighbor!!! Thanks much!!!
Nice of you to help your neighbor!!! Good job on the headlights!!!
Rubbing compound is the first step on a new paint job. Smooths out orange peel, and WILL scratch clear coat/paint. Tape the paint off from the lens. If the lens is still a little hazy(happens on some plastic), polishing compound(finer grit) is next. If you're really crazy, or a new restorer(same thing), buffing compound will make it look like glass, but that requires a wheel. Great vid, bud!
Right place right time
