You honestly saved me probably an hour or more. I wish I could do hot keys with my iPad. But, I’ve been watching so many of your videos! I’ve been trying to get more into digital art and making time for it. I’ve watched a lot of tutorials but the way you explain things clicks in my brain and I love it! Thank you for your help!!! So glad I found you!
Absolutely, so glad it could help! I have an iPad pro as well and you can do key binds if you pair it with a Bluetooth keyboard. I got one off Amazon so that is possible, but maybe not exactly the 'experience' you'd expect or want with an iPad but good to know your options!
As someone who's just starting out in digital art and completely new to actually coloring their art, this video is crazy helpful. I've watched plenty that went over using clipping or mask layers and things like that but never one that showcased the reference layer tool or this much info in such a clean and concise fashion.
Thank you! I have been struggling to learn digital art for a year now and your videos saved me! I learned a lot in a short amount of time. Thank you for letting us know how to be more efficient :)
and if for some reason you really need to color using the initial method, there's 'anti overflow > do not cross lines of reference layer' option in brush sub tool detail palette that helps you to color without crossing lines
This is a really usefull tip. Other UA-camrs use the wizard stick tool and select each single surface. It really takes much time. Noone of them use the bucket.
Thank you so much for this! I'm old & just learning to do digital art. It's so hard to find tutorials that are slow & easy to follow, most tutorials I've found, seem to assume you have some knowledge on how to use the program & tools. Not to mention, they go super fast & are difficult to follow along with. So thank you, thank you, thank you!! I will definitely be taking a look at your other tutorials!!! 💝💝💝💝
Only finding this now, ive been streaming for a little bit now but wanted to make my own artwork. Your channel has actually made me love drawing again (havent drawn in 8 years). So thank you so much!
I like draw everything out on paper, then ink it, then scan it in, then convert brightness to opacity, then open a layer underneath then use the magic wand tool. Then I press expand area x4 then press the fill bucket.
This and your line art tutorial have been SO useful for me. Thank you! I draw for a hobby but being able to do a piece from sketch to lined and flat colour in 2h instead of 6h means Im way more likely to actually draw.
I learned a lot here. I don't use folders - because not seen a need to...I've just started to get on board with clipping layers and coloured layers and hot keys - Never used them..... Now having watched this tutorial things are starting to move to a better working style. Thank you for pointing out my errors and taking my blinkers off. Things can only get better, and thank you for sharing.
This was SO helpful and speedy while also being super informative! I often get overwhelmed with tutorials where the author may ramble (not about the topic) or may spend hours slowly explaining in a monotone voice. This helped me to narrow down the specific things I need to do so that I can hop into clip studio and begin practicing these implementations. Thank you~!
Faving this, I just got into digital art after “graduating” from the quite lovely switch game Colors live Now I have a tablet and it’s a little daunting with all the choices and settings and such. Learning how to colour will be a huge help as I find my feet. Thanks so much!
Thank you! I never figured out why my paint fill tool covered everything but this explains it! and as a bonus, you also showed me how to do faster shading! ^-^
This is very helpful, thank you! For some reason even some skilled YT artists don't include clipping layers in their tutorials. You just saved me so much time
My advice would still be to use the bucket tool but then lock they layer or clip in the layer to add texture in the defined space. You absolutely can go back in and add texture, render do whatever but it'll be within the defined space. You can also use the lasso tool instead of the bucket tool to select the area without painting in it yet. This would help to also select an area and then paint it how you want.
I absolutely adore your personality, artwork and tutorials! I was struggling for a while with digital art until I went through your channel. Amazing work! I hope to see you on Twitch!
Thanks for the video. My take away is that I’m gonna start flatting individual colors on separate layers. That’s going to really help my process for clipping shadows and highlights to each color.
Sounds awesome, that's one thing I've continued to do and that's never really chnaged, seperate my colors for shading and it feels organized and I think it helps me paint much faster. Happy painting!
thank you for this video, i have just recently got clip studio and been using it for a couple weeks. The coloring was really wearing me out and my pen tips cause i used to coloring things like, outling with the color then use the bucket and then i'd have to color in the places that didn't fully connect o.- it was hell lol
I found this useful cuz I just got clip studio paint. I used to do my colouring the long boring way and it caused me pain. Took me months to realise the bucket tool exists. Those were the days.
Hi, nice video, i just wanted to let you know, if you werent aware, that one of the beautiful things about clip studio is that your reference layer or any layer doesnt need to be all connected with no gaps because of the gap forgiveness feature. In the bucket tool, theres a gap forgiveness setting where you can tell it how big of a gap you want it to ignore and it'll just act as if it was closed. I love it, its very useful :)
i cannot wait to go through all of your videos. you are So helpful and i am So thankful for you. you have no idea how often i come across someone that just does not know how to teach CSP properly. i love that you go at a reasonable pace, and you explain the Why behind doing something, and your voice is so nice to listen to.
I never used to waste time drawing in lines. Instead I always switched to my line art layer, used magic wand then go back to shading layer. This was annoying when I had to keep scrolling through layers and when I’d accidentally forget to select a certain patch. So I’ll definitely be using the reference layer and clipping layer tools! Thanks so muchh
I came through this video while trying to look for videos that explain about this and yours is so helpful!! Its also the only video that i understood 100% and didn’t skip, you explain very well, This is exactly what i was looking for! i didnt know how to use the tools properly and thats why i gave up on digital art cuz it takes so much time and effort in painting but thanks to you now i have motivation to try again and use the bucket to paint!Tysmm😭💞💞
Holy moly!!!!! I love this video! So happy I met you on Twitch. This video is so helpful. Im not an artist, but its so interesting to learn drawing techniques!
Well I didn't hear it mentioned in the video so I figure I would. As for the fill tool (I think this is CSP specific though) if you do have a gap in your line art, there is an option to ignore gaps and only fill the area you intended. Its somewhere in the fill tool options. That can help save even more time, than going through your line art scanning for gaps.

So thank you SO much for sharing all your knowledge!!! I do have a question though: When adding a new layer, are you adding a vector layer or rasterise layer? Or can you use both?
As someone who has a very "sketchy" drawing method I find this sooo difficult. I'm trying to get better at drawing solid lines but honestly idk how ppl do it and have it look so clean and straight.
I think of my sketches as being a different thing from my line art. I go about drawing line art with different tools like vector tools, using a stabilizer for smooth lines etc and that then makes coloring like this easy :)
@@Shyfoxx I've never thought of it this way. Thanks for the reply! Looks like I have a lot of playing around to do with this program. Channels like yours are helping so incredibly much.
What setting do you use use for autofill I cannot get it to play nice with my line art it always seems to go to far or not far enough leaving gaps or not fully filling zones

Glad it could help! Line Art is definitely a very different thing from sketching when it comes to digital art. Good luck creating!!
Thats just great!!!
Thank you!
What setting do you use use for autofill I cannot get it to play nice with my line art it always seems to go to far or not far enough leaving gaps or not fully filling zones
I made a video on this specifically. Maybe it will help ua-cam.com/video/drG0sSjzKBs/v-deo.htmlsi=lKIfXKORFlT0Mch_
