Hey guys! Do keep in mind that the excellent tricks and processes shown on this video apply only to raster layers not vector layers. It happened to me earlier today that the color block and wand selection was not working and the reason why was because I had the line art on a vector layer :P
Hey I’m really new to this so I’m sorry if this question seems stupid. You seem pretty well versed so I thought I might ask you… I’ve started doing my line art on vector layers as well so that I can more easily manipulate them after they’re drawn to correct them. Is there a quick and easy was for me to copy then line art from a vector layer to a raster layer so that I can then do my flats like this video shows? Thanks in advance if you have any tips. I’ve been a traditional artist for years and moving to digital has been really challenging for me. I appreciate literally any help lol
Oh my god.. This the best video ever...I've watched so many videos for flat colour I can't even tell. They all got complex after a while n hard to follow. This is such a gem of a video. I'm saving it n will refer it forever! Also love that he just talked through the whole thing like talking to himself n not like a strict tutorial, which overloads with info even when the artist is figuring out. Like should I watch what u doing or should I listen to what u saying!
dude, you saved me so hard, thanks very much for the content, helped me understand the software and also get secure in what Im doing. I was lost and thanks to you I´m not anymore
Very good.👍 Hello my friend, I enjoyed your video. See you again.😍🤝🌹👍 379
What was the silhouette on the bottom for if it ends up being completely covered? It might have been different back then not sure but not with the Vector line Layers you can still use the fill with vector line layer as reference without the silhouette. Im not sure if theres any more tricks that can applied by using the silhouette
I don't understand the "refer to reference layer" thing with the fill tool. When I do it as shown, mine just fills in the entire picture (outside and inside the lines) with the skin color. It does that whether or not I am on the actual skin color layer. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong..?
Maybe there are too many holes in your drawing, and the colors are bleeding out. You can either fill in the gaps with the color you wanna use manually to stop the bleeding, or you can simply go to the reference layer, use the magic wand with the "close gaps" set to full and move back to the color layer in order to fill the color in.
Following this tutorial and when filling colors using the bucket tool, there’s always this white pixels on the edges of my line art. Lineart is on vector layer btw. How to fix?
What is the purpose to add a single flat colour at 1:49? Can't we just straight add different colour to skin, jacket and so on? Tho I also have done that sometimes but I don't know the main purpose of doing it.
For what I understand and based on my workflow, It makes my work more faster especially if you want to have layers for each part of the character and unsure of mood of color you are using , It gives you the whole silhouette of your character and it also ease my mind that I don't have to think of making another silhouette of other character parts later on like I said it eases my mind on my workflow, now after that process, I'll enjoy painting what's on the inside of the silhouette and not think about having to paint outside the shape
Not having an under color does make the process a little slower since you have to trace the outside edges of the character for every color on the outside such as the coat, hair and pants in this pic. It also makes sure you don't forget any spaces and have a gap/hole in your colors that go through to the background. using it makes flatting more efficient and gives you a cleaner result.
His usual approach is actually way different than what he does in the video. If you look up one of his speedpaints or tutorials videos he's often using the blue flat color as an underpainting and leaves out some of the spots to shine through. its easier if i just link the video because i'm not that good at explaining. ua-cam.com/video/ELM7q4pDrvM/v-deo.html&t He may make the flats he put above that underpainting layer a bit transparent in the next video and color pick from that or something. I think he has another tutorial where he does something similar with layer opacity.
I believe the fill bucket only works on raster layers (won't swear 100% to that I could be remembering wrong). But you can use a vector layer for the lineart and set the vector layer as reference like he did with his lines. Or if you have more then 1 layer for your lines you can also put them in a group folder and set the folder to be referenced if you don't want to merge them.
While the bucket tool may not work on vector layers you can use it on your color layers set to raster and just have your line art be vector. So this process should work fine.
I find this multi-layer approach to be overkill. He could have all the flats on the same layer and select them when he wants to change or manipulate the colors. I do the flats. Duplicate that layer and then color the duplicate while leavening the original as a reference layer so I can select each color. Same thing but instead of 50 layers I use 2. But I do comics so maybe for some reason this is better for illustrators.
It is available for Android already, but free one is limited edition kind of, and for full featured one you have to subscribe their monthly or annual plan. If you go for desktop edition, it is one time payment.
No. The layer that covers the entire character and the dog (the blue) doesn't effect the colors he puts over top it. He is just using as a guide so he doesn't go outside the lines when laying in his new colors.

6:11 probably one of the most helpful tips/shortcuts I've ever seen
Damn it !!! I would have missed this tip without your comment, many thanks!
ikr. so annoying to move between layers. real time saver tip
I use Clip Studio Paint PRO on my iPad Pro, but if I get a keyboard accessory then I'm definitely using this shortcut 😭

@@SwedePotato314 I am not sure but I think you can just create a new raster layer and do the colouring there
Thanks
Please make the next episode available
Really helpful and clearly presented. Many thanks.

Thank you, I think I have realised what I have being doing wrong at colouring. Clear tutorial, perfect for beginners.

Which is better for flatten color photoshop or clip studio?

Why when i use the hue correction it changes the hue of all the colors and not just the color on the layer i selected?
how do I add to the existing selection in the CSP app? It's been giving me a headache ;-;
Hello thanks for the tutorial! I have an issue with the autoselect tool: it selects the lines instead, does anyone knows how to fix this ?
My art sucks so I'm trying to learn things lol
Will clip studio work of i update my computer to windows 11?
I think so. I don't see any reason why ANY programs would stop working on W11.
when i do this on a seperate layer my whole character turns into the same color. how can i fix this? very frustrating
I often accidentally draw on the wrong layer. How can I avoid this?
1:51 How do I remove these marching ant thing?
I don't have lasso tool
How do I reverse the thing on ipad csp
Wow didn’t found the magical tool
what is the point of the blueish color underneath when no one sees it anyway? why not just paint on white
Does this also work on vector layers or just raster
I believe the fill bucket only works on raster layers (won't swear 100% to that I could be remembering wrong). @@izarak_arts that is correct, fill doesn't work on vector layers. Nor does the gradient or blend tools.
While the bucket tool may not work on vector layers you can use it on your color layers set to raster and just have your line art be vector. So this process should work fine.
Can someone tell me if the one blue colouring at the beginning actually meant something or it could have been any coulour?PLSSSSSSS
I think he forget about this layer.
I wonder if he used a reference for this art work?
4:26 no matter what I do, it fill all of my page, not only skin, this tutorial is so confused because of all the cut in the clip
I find this multi-layer approach to be overkill. He could have all the flats on the same layer and select them when he wants to change or manipulate the colors. I do the flats. if you seen this comment can you please somehow release clip studio paint on Android I'm dying to tryout you're app pls am begging you
I think it is on Android
It's on galaxy currently

Does the color that he uses underneath the flats affect the flats? Or is it just to keep the colors inside the lines?? Someone please help
No. The layer that covers the entire character and the dog (the blue) doesn't effect the colors he puts over top it. He is just using as a guide so he doesn't go outside the lines when laying in his new colors.

Anti-aliasing on flats? Oof!
What's wrong with that? Is that using much memory or smth?
