I Restored this Broken and Cracked Tank for 'Mister Patina'
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 лют 2021
- Mister Patina was recently restoring a german stove from 1920. The tank of it was cracked, the thread for the cap was missing, the cap itself and more. As this job was too much for his current knowledge he asked me if I could help him. I really liked this challenge and I said yes. Soldering is also something I'm not very used to, so it will also be an interesting job for me and it would make a nice little video for the second channel.
From the first pictures of the tank I haven't realized that this is made out of three parts. I quickly saw that when it arrived in my shop. That made it a lot easier to repair the cracks. I took all parts apart. Repaired the cracks from the inside, covered all the inside to pervent future cracks and soldered the three parts back together. To stabilize the brittle tank I used aluminium rings. Then I turned a new part with an inside thread for the fuel cap and soldered that in place. After that I made the fuel cap and the bleed screw, to seal them I used one o-ring each which worked absolutely perfect. I gave the whole thing a nice brushed finish and the job was done.
I hope you like my work and the video.

This is truly awesome! I knew there was no better person for this job!
Thank you so much! 🙂
Thank you very much!
Happy to help 😉
Kinda surprised that "Mr. Patina" would approve of MyMechanics stripping the patina! lol!
After watching the Mister Patina channel, i went straight to my mechanics insights
@misterpatina You didn't even ask me to do it. Pff and you never wrote a single letter to me. I'm beyond jealous.
But okay I have to admit that it turned out amazing.
Impressive craftsmanship
@@gandasturi7 After watching the my mechanics channel, i went straight to Mister Patina
I just think it's adorable how all these restoration channels interact with one another
It's honestly one of my favourite things about restorations UA-cam community.
I was thinking these two might be in the same shop.
@@seethesvt 🤣🤣🤣
@@MrDelightful machinists too. It's nice to see everyone supporting one another.

Your "This should be good enough" is everyone else's perfect. Well done, MM. Beautiful restoration.
Me: a simpleton with none of the skills presented in this video
"Ahh yes, a bleed screw is necessary."
Even before clicking on the video, just reading the title I felt there would be some bleed screw contingency here... Never heard of bleed screws before, still... This channel builds awareness on a demonic level ;)
@@bioLarzen Absolutely haha
Well duh, yeah of course it needs a bleed screw, everyone knows that
Me: Siri, what’s a bleed screw
🤣🤣🤣
@@frankmadonna01 The bleed screw is the yeti of this channel: nobody has ever seen one, we just assume it exists ;)
The bleed screw allows air into the tank when the stove is in use to prevent a vacuum. While not in use the bleed screw seals the tank to prevent the fuel from evaporating or absorbing moisture.
i don’t need it but i want one😅, awesome work 👌
I'm always here if you want to do another collaboration 😉 thanks Tysy
@@mymechanicsinsights Oh yes please!!
I imagine the channel My Mechanic, TysyTube Restoration and Mister Patina are working on a big project ,, maybe someday they will collaborate in one place and one video.. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
@@gandasturi7 When the raise the Titanic?
@@klenny88 Will need some welding, too.
The restoration is always awesome, but the video editing, and structure, without unecessary information, really makes watching this channel a special experience. It is, in a sense, quite therapeutical.
7:22 "This should be good enough." If more people had an attitude like that, the world would be a better place.
It's more than 'good enough'.
Yes, better than new "should be good enough."
I think you misinterpreted that comment.
It was because he wanted to leave the finishing to Mr. Patina, not because he did the best possible job he could.
@@CadillacDriver I think you misinterpreted my comment. I wasn't being sarcastic, I'm complimenting him for calling a superb job as good enough.
@@iteerrex8166 I know you weren't being sarcastic, but your comment makes no sense. He was simply saying it could have been better. And in this context "good enough" didn't mean perfection.
Seems you don't grasp my point.
If he had said "I hope this is good enough", your comment would make more sense.
Love how you say "this should be good enough" when it is absolutely perfect!
Absolutely? I bet, that he´d polish it up. :)
Haha, this was actually way below my mechanic’s standard. He would normally polish it up so it would get your eyes burned ;-) my mechanics doesn’t speak patina at all, and I like it a lot :-)
Exactly what I was about to say haha
I laughed out loud seeing that XD
Mr. P: "Here is a couple of cracked brass cups, soldered together with a cracked center pipe. Can you make it better?" MyMechanics: "--I fixed your cracked and nasty looking hunk of brass. Here is a brand new, nuclear submarine. Just had to shine it up a bit to reveal what it really was."
I wish there was an award ceremony for all the best restoration channels on YT. I think it would just be MyMechanics , Mr P , TysyTube and Cool Again restoration complementing each other on their skills and everyone wins 💙
The thing that i like most about some, not all the restoration pages on youtube is, that beside the way u treat the parts and old tools, u help each other. It always gets me calmed down when i look at ur way of restoring. Thx for letting us be a part of ur work.
I could see you doing this before a live audience at Carnegie Hall and receiving standing ovations after each of your master works. Bravo!
I’ve never looked at a leak screw and said out loud to myself “oh, that’s sexy.” before but here we are.
Definitely the best restoration channel on UA-cam.
Mister Patina will be very happy👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yes Iam! 😉
"My dearest Mymechanics"lol. Who says tool work isn't civilized. You guys are wonderful! I needed a lift this morning.
My English is also not perfect. What I can verify you are the only one on YT working in such a incredible way of perfectism. Compliment and Thanks a lot

Wow! Guys, you’d better create your own “youtube restoration club”. Gather together sometimes and make joint restorations of bigger parts. I watch you all sometimes and you all united would become something!
I have no idea why I find this work so fascinating. The projects come out looking to nice to use in my opinion.
Поздравляю ! Это Успех! Руки у вас Золотые!!!

It's honestly just amazing watching you work, never any shortcuts and always an amazingly perfect end result. Only person I know that does the restore thing well enough for me to consider it legit art. Not just the product, but the process, watching you work is truly something special.

The aluminum rings to bring the part back into shape is just 🤌🤌 MMM PERFECT

the professionalism of you work is seriously stunning, I have no words.
I'd highly recommend watching Mr Patina's channel. He may not be as advanced and have quite the amazing set of tools as My Mechanics but he takes great care and he has some very funny commentary in his captions. The best restorer I've seen, after My Mechanics of course.
Thanks man, i really appreciate!
You, sir, are a wizard. There's no other way to explain this sorcery. Another perfect job.
In my opinion, you and Mr. P are the best in this field! Keep it up!

With the guys nickname being Mister Patina? There's no way he's going to remove... 1:26 oohh
I hate to see you hold back. You are THE BEST !!!!!
When I first saw Mister Patina unwrapping the restored tank, I told myself "Oh, he must have replaced the end barrels because that looks way too perfect to be repaired." Quickly headed over here to watch your half and BAM - proved me wrong. Amazing skills right there!!!
I had the same thoughts when I unwrapped the tank. 😄
IMHO, this is the most therapeutic channel on UA-cam! I’m dead serious about that! It’s also the most interesting channel that I personally know of. Thank you for sharing your beautiful talents with us.

Literally just finished watching his video. Might as well be Christmas, Hanukkah, Easter, and the 4th of July.
Haha, right?
This is poetry in motion. Thank you!
You really are a legend. From old and broken beyond hope to better than new.
I really like how you help each other out. It makes it even more interesting to watch.
I'm genuinely amazed with how that turned out.
Restoration? These videos should be called "Get back in time". These guys are really magicians.
Beautiful restoration, worthy of the main channel
I remember when he made that knurling tool. So cool to see stuff being used in future videos.
Beautiful work!! And you were even thoughtful enough to include extra O-rings! Over the top!

Imagine sending this off for repair and getting back in that state, you'd be all "oh wow they sent me a new one". WOW!
Awesome job! Swiss precision :)
this is the definition of satisfying to watch. love it keep up the great work!!
For some reason I dreamed that you finished restoring the part, then decided that it looked better with the patina and somehow reversed your work. I was very impressed.
You just popped up in my feed but I recognized that tank immediately, LOL. I watched Mr. Patina restore the stove last night and saw he had sent the tank off to be repaired. To you obviously. You do "purdy" work.

i dont see how there is anything left for mr. p to do so now off to see what he does 😂

MM, You are the best... congratulations!
I saw Mr Patina's video in first place. When he received the tank and started polish it, i thougth "What? MM's jobs never need finsishing work.
Now i undestand...
love restorations , as a plumber im telling this, goal is to bring the metal to the lead or soldering wire melting temperature, than you remove the flame and if it melt it means your at the right temperature and the weld is going to hold no matter what it will endure. Always sand and add flux to the parts so it will bound , little trick , lead will only stay where you put flux and wont stick elsewhere. not sure i explain it well enough to be clear. good luck and i hope this will help you in future restorations :)
7:24 Yeah, just slightly above average, of course, nothing too fancy))
