  • I drive the 2016 Porsche 991 GT3 RS! I take you through the driving experience and compare it to the standard 991 GT3 as well as my own Cayman GT4.
    I did this video to help spread the word about my good friend and fellow Porsche lover Manoj Raval's charity. Manoj is raising money for colorectal cancer care at St. Paul's hospital using his GT3RS at the 2016 Diamond Rally.
    You can find out more about the Faith Hope Love charity at the link below and please consider making a donation and spread the word.
    diamondcarrally.kintera.org/fa...
    The Faith Hope Love GT3RS will be available for public viewing at the 2016 Diamond Rally kickoff event on May 14th at Brian Jessel BMW. www.diamondrally.com

    The audio mixture of the external sounds with the internal commentary is the best blend I have heard to date. It clearly demonstrated the quickness of the gearshifts better than I have heard on other videos.
    I also enjoyed you skill in talking while driving. It is hard to concentrate on both, and you make itvseem effortless.
    KUDOS!

    Awesome review! I've yet to have the pleasure of driving a Porsche, but I "get it" thanks to your eloquent analysis, comparisons and reviews. The allure of the ultimate 911 vs. the driveability of the virtually as-capable Cayman come to life in your comparisons. Keep up the great work!

    Really like your review, simplicity, calm. And it's like that we are with you in the car (almost :P).
    I'm in the process to buy my new car, and I continue to hesitate between an 911 (997 phase 1) and a Cayman 987 (I really love the 981 but the price is just a little bit high for me actually in Switzerland).
    I can't explain why, but your review help to find more calm in my "searching" process :D.

      +FunkyBear Hey Funkbear, thanks for your detailed comment. I'm really glad you find my reviews useful. I think both the 997.1 and the 987 are great cars. They have the better hydraulic steering that has become extinct and have lots of mechanical feel. You'll enjoy whichever one you get. Have fun in yours search!

    Great cause and Great conversational review with detailed comparisons of the cars from somebody that actually knows. The cocoon feeling of a cayman did catch me by surprised when i went from a 997s to 987.2S - like you said different flavors but i do like the openness of a 911

    Outstanding job on the review!
    I've owned both a GT3 and GT2....7 Porsches in all. I agree with your eval on the secondary market, on these "limited" cars. I've seen low mileage, slightly used GT3RS's going for as much as $460k (U.S.) and that's just ridicules.
    These cars (new) are becoming priced way too high, for the average Porsche buyer. At $200k+ (when ordered new from the dealer), Porsche is driving their loyal customers to other brands (Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren)....for about the same money as these "marked up" ....."limited" cars.

      +therealoldspiceguy Thanks for enjoying my review! And interesting to read your comments about the market, especially from a long time Porsche owner. They've become more for collectors now than drivers and that's a shame, isn't it?

    How would you say the GT3RS compares to the GT4?
    I owned a GT4 and loved it on the road - put 20,000km on it over 18 months as a daily driver.
    Is the RS that much firmer or uncomfortable?
    I live in Dubai where the roads are pretty decent, and the GT4 never felt overly hard or unbearable at all.
    I'd appreciate your thoughts as I may look to get into one in over the coming few months - currently in a 570s

    • @driveopolis
      @driveopolis  4 роки тому

      Hey there! If you did 20k kms over 18 months in a GT4, the GT3RS is equally comfortable and you will have no problem using it as a daily. The only real advantage of a GT4 as a daily is the two trunks.. the back area of the GT3/RS is not very accessible when you have the carbon buckets. If you have the regular sport seats then they fold down and you can use the rear area. The 570S is a sweet car! Congrats!

    I don't get why, WHY should we listen to the sound outside the cabin while you're driving? It is distorted, and it isn't the sound you hear while driving. Please let us hear the cabin noise.

    • @driveopolis
      @driveopolis  8 років тому

      The reason this sounds slightly unnatural is that my exhaust mic was clipped by the extremely loud exhaust. If it didn't clip, I doubt it would even draw attention. Don't know if you've done any in-cabin recordings yourself, but you will never get a true representation of the in cabin experience from using a cabin mic alone. What you experience IRL is always a mixture of in cabin sounds and external exhaust sounds. What I do is mix them the best I can in post to create a visceral experience. It will always be an audio mixer's own interpretation of how things sound in the end. Even Top Gear and other big shows will record from various parts of a car to produce a good sounding track in post. This is just the reality of the video making. It is entirely up to you whether you like the way I and others do things, but straight up in cabin recording isn't perfect either and won't ever approximate the real experience.

    • @RacingRalphEVO
      @RacingRalphEVO 8 років тому

      +driveopolis So first of all - thanks for the response. I know that if I want to hear the real sound, I have to drive the car by myself wich isn't possible and thats why I'm grateful to people like you for posting videos, your videos btw. are very good, and pleasent to watch. But I still don't understand why I wouldn't get the closest experience, by placing two mics inside the cabin, at head level, where my ears would be while driving. The thing that annoys me so much about recording the exhaust sound is the wind noise and the fact that it is - like I said - distorted. This sounds to me like you would drive with slightly rolled down windows at high speeds. The mix though is still much better than pure exhaust sound.
