- Time to take a full look at the Porsche 991 GT3 RS, the car we have been using for the last week as part of my X6 Tour around Europe. From an initial overview of the latest track-focused model, to taking it for a drive and discussing the first impressions, before a more detailed look around the interior.
It has been a fantastic machine, turn-in grip and brake feel being the two stand out points, but an all around incredibly exciting package that works you hard but rewards equally.

The 991.1 and the 991.2 are something that shouldn't be forgotten. You can get these for nearly what the MSRP was. NO dealer lock out or markup. All those who didn't drive them I say thank you. Now someone can enjoy the cars you saved.

This machine delivers an orgasmic response ! Amazing. How beautiful the sound the motor make.
If I remember it correctly the tradition of using s sticker badge comes from the GT2 RS that had a carbon hood, it is as much a nod to the past as it is a weight saving exercise.

+TomásProRider You have clearly never driven one before. I have a 996 GT3 and the handling,sound,everything is perfect. Ferrari is mostly a car for douchebags and posers although i agree they are also very fast. Most of us Porsche drivers are in clubs and some of us even have track RSR's. And oh yeah, the Porsche engineers put the engine in the right place. I prefer RERWD over FERWD. Cheers!

+m yz Yeah it doesn't save that much money, but you have to agree that it's just a marketing gimmick on Porsche's part. It's just two small badges, which don't add a considerable advantage to weight reduction.

J. Martinni You think whatever you want. But take the GT3 for example. It only has 2 badges, the Porsche emblem in the front and naming on the back. Combined those 2 badges would not have weighed even close to 1/10th of a kilo. If you wanna believe that a mere number of grams is gonna make huge improvement in a car which already has a huge amount of downforce and good aerodynamics, then by all means be my guest.
The Clubsport package comes with the roll cage inside, which adds far more weight than two tiny badges would.
Same goes for McLaren. It's not a freakin Formula 1 car in which case it would be plastered by all kinds of different markings. Omitting badges for a sticker would make more sense in that case.

+kerk tp In my opinion LFA has the best sounding exhaust ever. And now I know GT3 RS has the best sounding exhaust among 6 cylinder engines. Both being 9k revver should mean a lot here.

Sam Lotfi Well some of the V10s sound A LOT poorer than this. Especially if you like high revver, racing engine feel it sounds like a thing from heaven, just like LFA.

Why would anyone not tick Clubsport box on an RS, sort of forgot to mention it's based on turbo chassis unlike GT3 which is on the carrera chassis which is first time ever ( usually this would be the GT2 which has been canned) The pit limiter is awesome too, you should have tried that. ironically the clubsport pack comes with folding seats

what an awesome car. I still like the look of the standard GT3 over this one, but I'd take both, or either, ANY day :-)
Only minus for me is the PDK. Look, I know it performs better,it is more technologically sound and will produce better times around a track; but I don't care about that when I am by myself on an open road. It makes sense for traffic and daily driving but the overall experience is diminished.I wish they would keep the traditional stick as an option for us old schoolers.
Schmee I'm surprised that you don't own a standard GT3. All the positives from this car without the negatives you mentioned like having too firm suspension for UK.

The straps for doorhandles don't actually save weight, they are only there to add to the racing car theme.

There appears to be two completely individual cameras in this car and yet the view changes from one to the other without any interruption to the audio stream when you're speaking, and it doesn't look like there's anyone else in the car controlling the cameras. How on Earth did you manage this feat of editing (assuming it's not a secret)?

How much weight does a Porsche badge add that they'd sticker it . They should have rather stickered the number plate for weight saving . Just a thought.
And if you really want to safe weight, you tick the box in the option list what says "no Audio system" and "no klima"
About closing the hood on the ends; Does carbon fiber dent???

The Sticker means that the car was build by Porsche Motorsport...

bertumal , you are right, but the actual full lable will be: 991.1 911 gt3 rs. The 991 is the current model 911. Have a look at the car history.

Hey Shmee, going through some of your old videos and dreaming of have my own gt3 or gt3 rs one day. If you happen to read this...would you prefer to own a gt3 rs as standard out of the factory, or send it to Its White Noise for tuning? I recall you driving a black an IWN gt3 rs in Cali and loving it.

A sticker instead of a perfectly machined badge is just stupid as hell. Like one tiny badge is going to make a massive difference in weight. Even if it did, it would be completely insignificant compared to the rest of the car. It doesn't fit well with the level of Porsche genius and quality.

+Rasta Fari The badge is a very important detail in the car. At least in my opinion. The Porsche badge is what gives the car its worth. Like I said, having the sticker doesn't improve weight reduction significantly whatsoever. Sticker or not, it already is a very good track focused car, and if Porsche did make a big deal out of one small badge it is quite pointless of them.These days you don't have to be worthy to drive anything as long as you have money.

When will people realize that the gt3 in its current configuration will not work with a manual? The engine was developed specifically with pdk in mind. Putting a manual in this car makes as much sense as putting an exhaust on a tesla. Give the manual thing a rest already.

Is it me or does the RS sound more aggressive than the standard GT3?
Then there's the question of ...is the RS worth the extra $60k CDN over the GT3 for street driving?
As for the RS being a "track weapon" I don' think it's that much more "track focused" than the GT3. Both cars still have the "needless weight" in it (e.g. sound deadening in the floor/doors, glass windows, has carpet....etc.). Unlike the Ferrari Stradale...THAT is "track focused"...Or one of the closest examples IMHO.
Another car 98% of owners won't use more than roughly 20% of it's potential..on the street. :) You buy cars like the RS "because you can". :)
My only gripe is that it deserves a manual transmission 👍🏻

I don't see why they would give you this car to test. The cars are all, or basically all, sold. What is the point of giving one to you to test out? Usually manufactures give review cars in order to sell more cars, but they can't with this one.
Gehteuch Nichtsan So what? The car would be sold for high prices anyway used and like you said, no one is taking it on track days that much and definitely not driving it as much as Shmee did. Shmee's videos were great, but I don't see why Porsche would of supplied him with this car.

It's 911 not 991....
Its both, 911 is the model, 991 is the generation number. This car is a 911 991 gt3 RS previous GT3 RS was the 911 997 gt3 RS ;) The first porsche 911 was the 901 and the second generation was the 911 911
