Your videos make me constantly look at my 3rd/4th edition Nurgle army (all metal marines) and my Dark Angels (both unfinished to this day) and want to finish them. Glad to see you doing better and coming back with the always fun orks.
I love the way you explain things, Duncan. It's very useful to someone like me who is new to the hobby and has very little experience with painting miniatures. Plus your voice is so soothing, you're like a nerdier, British Bob Ross. Happy little boltgun.
1:11 It must truly be an honour to have the famed Matt White attending your painting session, Duncan. 😁 Great to have you back and see you safe and sound. 🙏
Hey Duncan! Glad to see you back! Weird question, have ever you thought about doing a podcast where you and Roger talk about the minature hobby? I'd love to hear your thoughts on new models, painting techniques, hobbying stories etc. Love your tutorials btw! Especially the basing and fleshtone tutorials on your website!
Hi Duncan, thanks for this great video. Its become my go to guide for learning to paint my orks. Based on this video I made a spysheet in samsung notes that outlines all the steps you take in this guide. It helps me feel much more secure while painting because I dont have to wonder if I didnt forget steps or did them in the right order.
First of all, congratulations. You've managed to create a very impressive channel, and it's always a pleasure to watch (and learn from) your videos. This orc tutorial is great, as usual. Regarding greenskins, it would be amazing if you could do another tutorial explaining how to paint orcs (or black orcs) using "the old method", with Goblin Green or Snot Green... As I mentioned, thanks for your videos!
Brilliant to have our lord of the thin coats back ^v^ I do want to say. I think Duncan should prob say on vids like this that it is a tutorial for painting these models to their absolute best. I adore these videos and got into Warhammer painting because of Duncan so this is not shade. But because of his videos I did actually pick up some bad habits of not really understanding the fact that these are more how to paint (in this case) orks in general, rather than this is how much you should paint every ork boy. I just think Dunc could do with just saying at the start of vids and such that this is a very detailed guide and that you shouldn't put this much detail into a whole army. (And I do know that very specific details he does already say save for special characters) What I mean is that to a brand new player, this level of detail isn't needed. Eh I'm rambling but yeah, I just felt the need to leave this comment :p. Love your videoes Dunc and crew. Keep being amazing
When do you prefer using the tile as a palette over a wet palette? You switch in the video when you start doing highlights. Is it so your highlight colors don't get too wet, maintaining their consistency?
Generally, I use the dry palette for washes, Contrast/Speed paint, and metallics. Then I use the wet palette for pretty much everything else. Sometimes, I forget to change it though and only realise mid-shot 🤣🤣🤣
Hello! Awesome video, Mr. Rhodes! I’ve been flying by the seat of my pants with painting black on my Goff Boyz, but now I’m gonna apply this method to the rest of my tiny waaagh 🤘🏻😊 also, sorry to bug ya but I was wondering a quick question: I only have Abbadon Black. What paints could I add to it to make it more Corvus Black?
@@Erebus-el-primer-hereje Awesome! Thank you! I’m going to give that a go with some of my Mechanicus Standard & Dawnstone greys to see how they come out. Once again, thank you!
I finally know the right colors I need for my drab green for my US army stuff for Bolt Action/K47. I don't know why I never thought of Deathworld Forest and Elysian Green. Speaking of which, it'd be cool to see some Konflict 47 models on the channel :)
Great to see you're doing well, Duncan! Have you noticed any kind of variation in color with any of the citadel paints? Either from one pot to another, or the pot seeming to be a much different color when you get it in person to how it seems in pictures? I know that colors can vary a lot with different lighting, or a screen could have a poor color balance, but Mournfang Brown always seems different in painting tutorials to how it actually looks in person. It could just be me, though.
Good to see you up and around Duncan! My best for You and the Team, just a quick question, how do you keep your paint pots so clean? Kind regards and have a awesome day.
Thank you for posting Ork video, really helps a lot on getting my Ork army started. Just wondering, I only have black primer, am I able to apply that or grey primer is better in your opinion?
First off great tutorial on this. I have only painted a few times but this is one of the most comprehensive videos I have seen. Second I have a question. What pallet do you use? I have never seen it before. Well I have seen it in your videos just I can’t find it anywhere.
Really like how well you explain the why/what/how of evety step. However, I don't like that you suggest using about 20 paints. Since you are using a wet palette, why not mixing the highlight colours?
The reason is to make it easier for people without having to go down the route of mixing colours especially if a project takes a few weeks to complete. It can be hard to replicate colours when mixing. This is just easier 😊
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA Thank you for your reply. I agree, mixing colors requires an experimental mindset and some experience in mini painting. The point that bothers me the most is that the goal of the video is not very clear. The technique with premixed colors applies well to painting an army, whereas the number of steps is more suited for a one-off project. I feel that many people new to the hobby get the impression that you need lots of different shades of the same paint to paint models to a decent standard. This makes the hobby seem more expensive and less accessible than it actually is.
Hi Duncan, It would be interesting to paint the same ork boy in a "speed painting" way, and then compare the result with this one much more detailed. What do you think?
Whilst I have no intent on finishing my 60+ boyz to this quality the lessons will be useful for the characters and who knows maybe I'll apply some of it to those boyz
If there is one recommendation I could make, it would be use the video 'chapters' or however youtube calls them. It would be helpful for people when rewatching the video (as I usually watch painting videos multiple times)
The great thing about the Duncan style is that you can totally mix the steps around to fit your own vision as long as you keep the fundamentals at heart
