Back when I started 40k in the dark past times of 1998, it was the Eldar Falcon model that got me in the hobby. It's a perfectly designed model (the model itself, not necessarily the kit, mind you), because it was (and still is!) the epitome and the trailblazer of the Eldar aesthetic. The fact that this model came out in 1997 and still holds up to this very day 24 years later without being out of place speaks volumes about the quality of Jes Goodwin's work. Heck, Forge World even re-designed their super-heavy Scorpion and Cobra tanks to better match the Falcon's aggressive, elegant, and timeless silhouette. It may not be the go-to unit for the Craftworlds now, but I love this model to death, and there is no other GW kit that I've built and painted more of over the years (at least 10 overall).

Jay please hear my prayer! Vallejo already makes a perfect replacement for their Liquid Gold Copper! Liquid Metal Copper is PERFECT and is the same ultra-thin consistency while being water based and has thst beautiful über-dense pigment!
Vallejo Metal Color is what you're looking for. Its acrylic, thin, and goes on super smooth straight out of the pot. One coat over a black basecoat is all you need. Exhaust Manifold is really close to Leadbelcher. The only downside is if you're used to regular acrylic paints this stuff flows almost too well. You have to use only the smallest bit on your brush or it will flow into every recess and get everywhere.
I've been collecting Orks since the days of Thrugg Bullneck's Ork raiders. That was a set of 17 metal Orks for use with the starting scenario in the Rogue Trader rulebook. Now I have hundreds of boys and plenty of oddball conversions, including an army of feral Snake Bite Orks made from AoS savage Orruks that have a steam powered battlewagon.
I know your pain when it comes to shiny metals. I am building models planes and tried alot of products. If you want really shiny metallics you should always use a gloss primer, like enamel or alclad gloss base laqcuer (gloss spray can might work too). Alclads are actually really good metallics, but those are lacquers, so nasty fumes, a thinner that will eat through plastic if primed wrong, every scratch, every speck of dust, every rough sanding mark will be visible, need a gloss coat after, but damn those are shiny. The easy way - molotow liquid chrome, get the refill bottle (markers are ok too if you need to draw a blade or a hydraulic piston in one go) it could be airbrushed if thinned with alcohol (tamiya and mrColor lacquer thinners are said to be good too, I never had them tested), but again - gloss coat over. Mission Models have acrylic gloss base and chrome paint, that could be polished. From my experience it is more about the surface preparation rather than paint itself. Also gloss coat is like a must, especially if using chipping medium
I wouldn't say that GW hates all Xenos. Necrons got a lot of love over the last year+. As for copper paints (Near and dear to my heart! Just look at all that copper on my Necron army!) I like Citadel Screaming Bell for use on models with copper bits. As you know, my CSM army all have copper rims on their bases but I don't use Screaming Bell for those- seems like a waste of good paint. For the rims, I use Folk Art Copper. Its cheap and takes two or sometimes three laps around the base to get a good coat but when its done, the copper color is very nice and I can save my better, more expensive paint for the models themselves.
Well the new Drukhari look like my old 5E Dark Elder from 2010. Just some slight changes going from Finecast to Plastic but besides the Name nothing to fancy.
I also don't think GW dismisses xenos armies. I think they are culpable of not bringing enough spotlights to them. What happens is too many younger hobbyists love space marines (heroes wannabe) and just any good company does, they supply what the demand is. If xenos would get more love and space into starter sets, maybe we would see more variety around
I have collected and played Orks since Rogue Trader. THey have had their moments, but they have also been smashed in several editions. Editions 3, 4 and 6 were terrible for Orks. ED 5 was Green Tide or get your arse handed to you. It is about time they finally got some love.

Great Stuff Jay. Kudos. I’m going to start a Speed Freaks army one of these days. I’ve got this idea in my mind for a conversion of a chariot being towed by bikes instead horses, or Sqigs in the case of Orks, like in the video for Macklemore song, Downtown. It’ll either count as a one the buggies ( I haven’t decided which) or maybe battle wagon.
the models that got me hooked on my armies are the Saurus Eternity Warden for Age of Sigmar, the Drukhari Scourges and Aspect Warriors for my Ynarri army. the concept of a saurian warrior wearing a triceratops skull for a helmet with heavy armor just vibed with me and the concept of Scourges and Eldar in general looked the most interesting for 40k to me.
I use the (acrylic) vallejo metal air colors over black gloss primer, kinda like a zenithal highlight avoiding full coverage even from the top. Makes the shiniest metal I've achieved so far.

I have been mainly Orc/Ork player since '95 when I started hobby first with WHFB and then 40k 2nd ed and Gorkamorka. Specialy love the old scratch build/kitbash part of Greenskinz so me armies tend to be based around that aspect. Also as me old fantasy orc army is not playable anymore, I'm re-painting and basing them to be not so naked Bonesplittaz for AoS while using actual plastic AoS savage orrukz to make me more "Mad Maxian" Gorkamorka style mechanized Goff horde with anti-grav vehicles, jetbikerz and lotz of Dreadz, as I have played Goffz since I started 40k...
The Colde One Knights totally sold me on the Dark Elves and on Warhammer in general when I was still new to the Hobby. An elf Knight riding on a dinosaur? Hell yeah!
I have seen great results of a gloss black primer or gloss varnish over a regular black primer. Also, I can personally vouch for Vallejo Metal Colour copper being the perfect acrylic copper paint, you won't be disappointed!
Remember to stick a row of speakers behind the orc guitarist when you build your rig. There's probably a plethora of companies that would sell them. Or the speakers could be 3D printed. Also, the guitarist needs a plume of flame coming out the end. I know for a fact Anvil Industries sells those. As for other models, while it's not Orks, have you considered creating a rival biker gang using _Squats?_ The old Squat bikers will probably be difficult to find and might have less than stellar sculpts, but Ramshackle Games has a range of resin dwarf bikers. (Not to mention a wealth of Orks and Ork conversion bits.) For rules, I'd suggest running the Squats as an Imperial Guard army. The bikers can act at Rough Riders (it's not like you'll be entering a 3rd party Squat army in any official tournaments). Pad out the troops choices with some Mantic Games or Wargames Atlantic space dwarf infantry. Or just build the bikers, and run them in Open Play against the Orks.
Dudeee this conversion with guitar ork on the top is insane! Hope to see it ASAP, I also did my new Octarius Komando in Mad Max style. Now it's a trend)))
I had always planned an Ork army when i got the Gorka-Morka box set years ago but i went down the Eldar Craftworld route instead. Then got out of the hobby for over a decade. Then just recently i started watching 40k lore videos & the next thing you know the Beast Snagga box appears. So i'm doing a predominantly Beast Snagga army with the new combat patrol & Battle Wagon. Must dig out my Gorka-Morka box & see what's in there.
I also seem to build my armies based around a model I love rather than what’s good on the table top; for example I have a huge number of Hellions in my Dark Eldar. It feels like the correct way to do things! Also I love the Ryan George Pitch Meeting quip! 😂
I did the same thing with my Beasts of Chaos for AoS. I think it's the better way to do it because I get to enjoy the building and painting side more because I love the models, as well as being able to enjoy looking at them on display at my house between games. Even though they aren't the best competitively I have a lot more time spent with the little guys at home overall than I do with them on the battlefield, so we might as well enjoy it all!
Some Metal paint (chrome) options that maybe useful Molotow liquid chrome paint refills as well as rub and buff. The rub and buff maybe hard to control on a tiny surface but I know Adam Savage has had a lot of success using both for his projects.
I use P3 for my shiny metal and what solid me on Imperial guard was the bane blade and it's grandfather the Steamhammer. As for Battletech, I was sold on House Stiner because of the Atlas and their overuse of it. Also can't wait to see that center be built it would look so awesome!
I got and assembled my first Orks in June of last year because I a friend of mine wanted the Space Wolf half of the Prophecy of the Beast box and I just really think 40k Orks are awesome. Started painting five of those models in June of this year and just finished painting them tonight. I've still got like 80 more assembled Orks to paint in addition to a bunch of unassembled ones yet to go, but I've mostly had fun building and painting what I have already done. As far as Orks getting love again, sure we've gotten a lot of new models over the last year and a half and they look absolutely fantastic, but I'm personally not a fan of the super mono-pose nature of all the new minis. It just doesn't feel right for Orks at all.
I started playing Orks in 2nd edition and the mini that sold me on the army was the (really) old Ghazghkull. I've had many armies through the years but Orks are the ones I've always kept around.
"They hate all the other Xenos races" ... Well, the Necrons recently got a huuuuuge overhaul. And Tau are mostly newish models aside from the alien auxillaries. Tyranids and Eldar need some love. And so do Guard.
I've been thinking of trying my hand at Warhammer 40K and the Orks have defiantly caught my attention. What can I say, their war vehicles are defiantly a selling point. Thank you for the tips.
I always liked the idea of the orks, they always seemed really fun to me. But with the new model releases, and my love for squigs I HAD to start an ork army. I went looking for models, and by some miracle I was able to find a beast snagga box in my local game store. I've just pre-ordered Mozrog Skragbad, and my squig themed army is well on its way! In the future I will probably pick up a kill rig, some more squighog boyz and a rukkatrukk squigbuggie or two.
Vallejo Acrylic Metal Color Aluminium. Comes in a large 32ml flip top dropper complete with a shaker bearing. Very, VERY shiny. Also, I really like the tan base rims. Very cool.
The love you put into each ork has inspired me to really do the same for all of mine. Sure, it make take awhile, but Orks don't care about dat, long as dere's a good scrap to be had on da other side!
Vallejo metal color is some of the best acrylic metals I've used. Vince Venturella turned me onto them. The gold and coppers are very limited but overall the line is amazing.
love orcs!! im the same way.. i paint mine slightly different each time whether its 40k or AoS (Orruks) .. just as humans, I can't imagine every orc/orruk the same skin tone! I also painted my ork biker base rims to match the base artwork..AWESOME IDEA of kitbashing those sets together! @EonsOfBattle - are you really going to do it??
Vallejo metal color is awesome. I have copper and silver and its so much better than any other metallic paint ive tried. Its thin but covers in one coat I highly recommend it Edit; Pro Acryl metallics are pretty good too. Not as thin as VMC but nice coverage
I bought the Octarius Killteam box. The newer orks are cool, but I'm not letting myself open it until I make some headway on my pile of grey firstborn marines... so stop tempting me to buy more orks!

That shot of the original eldar guardian boxed set gave me a real kick in the nostalgia. I used to have those, along with a bunch of aspect warriors. They were lovely sculpts for their time, and so cheap in comparison to today's prices... Ah, simpler times...
@@Totema1 ive never used them myself thats why i said look into them, anyway metal n alchemy range has loads of cool colours like purple and blue and green metallics so they would be the main draw, i would probably continue to use pro acryl for generic colours
Try GreenStuffWorld Metal pigments ? Vince venturella has a nice tutorial on how to use them (mix them with gloss acrylic varnish). At least, those for copper/bronze/gold are neat. For extremely nice silvers, try either Vallejo Metal Color over gloss black primer, or just go with ALCLAD (not acrylics)
For acrylic shiny metals: Vallejo Metal Color Aluminum is pretty great, and for gold GSW Pure Metal Pigments Gold. Also, have you tried Moltow Liquid chorme? It's alchohol based, but almost mirror like in its reflectivity.
I've just bought a AOS squig herd box , to kitbash the squigs with my Ork buggies, mozrod scragbad is going to have 'lil chomper' standing under ' big chomper', the squig with the grot in his mouth shall be little chomper'.
For me it was the Primaris Reivers. I know they're not really useful but they look awesome. I guess it was the Phobos armour because I love most of the vanguard stuff... except for the flying guys with the big guns.
Vincey V metallics are the bomb. Vallejo Metal Colour, a dash of Surfactant from warcolours, and sprinkle of GSW metal pigments and im never using another metallic ever again.
For your new metallics, look into the green stuff world metal pigments. You mix the otherness with a metal medium/varnish and you get an amazing, bright, one coat metallic paint

As we say in Pokemon it's always better to win with your favorites. Also, your favorites will always be in fashion.
Oh it is definitely the Zoanthropes and Neruothropes for the tyranids! Absolutely incredible models!!
Some Metal paint (chrome) options that maybe useful Molotow liquid chrome paint refills as well as rub and buff. The rub and buff maybe hard to control on a tiny surface but I know Adam Savage has had a lot of success using both for his projects.
Dude can’t wait so see the rig kit bashing project coming to life !
The deff dread and lore sold me on orks.
picked up warhammer in lockdown. started with grey knights, but as soon as I saw the flashgitz I knew I needed those space pirate orks
I LOVE your idea for the rig, I can't wait to see it finished!
Just getting back into the hobby after around 15 years and this was so satisfying! Amazing work!
for me it had to be the flash gitz. finally finished off my waaaagh with a squiggoth for my flash gitz to ride. couldn’t be happier.
I use P3 for my shiny metal and what solid me on Imperial guard was the bane blade and it's grandfather the Steamhammer. As for Battletech, I was sold on House Stiner because of the Atlas and their overuse of it. Also can't wait to see that center be built it would look so awesome!
Love this style of video just like that kill team one were u painted them over the weekend
I will love to see that proyect that you showed at the end. Off with the pork and on with the engine!
Your orks look great!! Thanks for sharing this with us, Jay.
"They hate all the other Xenos races" ... Well, the Necrons recently got a huuuuuge overhaul. And Tau are mostly newish models aside from the alien auxillaries. Tyranids and Eldar need some love. And so do Guard.
Imma need that center piece built ASAP its such a cool idea
4:43 Greenstuff World pure metal pigment. I have the antique gold and can definitely recommend it.
That Ork center piece is going to fantastic....... The Ork driving it needs to have a cyber arm 😏
Man your finished models never cease to amaze me!
Good time to keep my energy up as I work on my freeboota themed orks. Trying to figure out out to model take busters with cannons
Vallejo Acrylic Metal Color Aluminium.
Comes in a large 32ml flip top dropper complete with a shaker bearing. Very, VERY shiny.
Also, I really like the tan base rims. Very cool.
These orks screamed „WITNESSS MEEEEEE“ before you gave them their skin color xD
The love you put into each ork has inspired me to really do the same for all of mine. Sure, it make take awhile, but Orks don't care about dat, long as dere's a good scrap to be had on da other side!
Subbed because of the flaming guitar orc on a truk idea
Best replacement for those liquid metal colours are Vallejo metal colour. Yes it's a similar name, in undercoat with gloss black
greenstuff world's antique gold and bronze pigments mixed with Vallejo metal medium/varnish gives great shiny colours
Orks never stopped being popular tbf
Magnum Opus was the name of the Mad Max Car from the video game a few years back!
Man, you make everything look so easy. Love that
Vallejo metal color is awesome. I have copper and silver and its so much better than any other metallic paint ive tried. Its thin but covers in one coat I highly recommend it
Edit; Pro Acryl metallics are pretty good too. Not as thin as VMC but nice coverage
OMG!!! I wanna see that kitbashed Killrig SOOOO BAD!!! XD
I've only recently gotten into warhammer and I think the Orks are great! Hilarious, and easily the most creative bunch!
A man of culture you paint your orks different shades of green
great video excited for the ork senter peace
The Armorcast Battlewagon was the model that sold me on Orks back in 2nd edition
I bought the Octarius Killteam box. The newer orks are cool, but I'm not letting myself open it until I make some headway on my pile of grey firstborn marines... so stop tempting me to buy more orks!
We (gaming group in upstate NY) had a fella play with us. He used to use red krylon on his Ork vehicles. We called him Shiny Ork Boy. There’s still a dozen of us that call him “Shiny”… ya know cause ReD MaKeS eM GO FaStA!
I've added some stormhost silver to the wings on the chest plate of my custodian dreadnought
That shot of the original eldar guardian boxed set gave me a real kick in the nostalgia. I used to have those, along with a bunch of aspect warriors. They were lovely sculpts for their time, and so cheap in comparison to today's prices... Ah, simpler times...
Boyz with girth 😂 Somebody has been watching Kirioth!
I love your idea for your Killrig, Immortan Joe will await you at the gates of Valhalla!
I know you hate Army painter paints but my favorite metallics are Weapon Bronze and Greedy Gold from army painter. Give them another shot.
The pro acryl metallic range has been serving me well recently, also look into metal alchemy by scale75
I love the range of shades that Metal N Alchemy has, but I find them a bit temperamental to work with. But that might just be me.
@@Totema1 ive never used them myself thats why i said look into them, anyway metal n alchemy range has loads of cool colours like purple and blue and green metallics so they would be the main draw, i would probably continue to use pro acryl for generic colours
I like your idea for the Mad Max kill rigg
Try GreenStuffWorld Metal pigments ? Vince venturella has a nice tutorial on how to use them (mix them with gloss acrylic varnish). At least, those for copper/bronze/gold are neat. For extremely nice silvers, try either Vallejo Metal Color over gloss black primer, or just go with ALCLAD (not acrylics)
7:18 Priming with a brush is TIGHT!
For acrylic shiny metals: Vallejo Metal Color Aluminum is pretty great, and for gold GSW Pure Metal Pigments Gold. Also, have you tried Moltow Liquid chorme? It's alchohol based, but almost mirror like in its reflectivity.
Looks awesome! Hardest working man on UA-cam (after Drachinfel!) - And now guess what?! Got the day off SO IM OFF TO PAINT MY NEW 3-D PRINTED A-WING!
3:13 HeHe orky go vroom vroom
Vincey V metallics are the bomb. Vallejo Metal Colour, a dash of Surfactant from warcolours, and sprinkle of GSW metal pigments and im never using another metallic ever again.
I would absolutely love to see the epic madmax-killrig-guitar-rocking-burnaboy! 🎸🔥
I have 3 squads of 9 warbikers. I am running a full speedwaagh Evil Sunz...this army is awesome!!!!
For your new metallics, look into the green stuff world metal pigments. You mix the otherness with a metal medium/varnish and you get an amazing, bright, one coat metallic paint
Green stuff world pigments are awesome.
Dope seamless transitions in this video. Good camera work. Felt like I was watching a Daniel Schiffer video for a minute ;)
The wraith models for Craftworld sold me on collecting Craftworlds. Really like the lore and the aesthetic of the models
The models that got me into krieg was the Hades drill breach squadron
Jay and his 50 shades of green ork army👍
Oh man I can't wait to see that kill rig conversion, love the mad max vibes
I know there are a lot of metallics going on, but that montage was pure gold
great video id love tooo se ya make a video on what you think is a good balance between competitive 40k and being in it for the hobby
