I really love how you use a variety of brands in your videos to get the most effective results. It really shows that you love the hobby and this authenticity connects you to your viewers so well. thank you!
I know I'm late to the game, but... as I am awed and learning from the content, I am equally awed by Duncan's ability to speak so rapidly and so clearly....So much talent.
I can't say Azrael was a hard miniature to paint but, for some reason, it toke a looooot of time for me to get finished. It has endless details and I had a constant felling of "ok, with this I'm done... oh, wait, another one... and another... and so on" Fantastic tutorial for a fantastic miniature!
This is timely; Azrael has this nice, updated miniature and his 10th edition points are out. He fared well; considering what he brings to the table, I expect him to be a popular choice for many players.
Yes! Azrael! The coolest chapter master in the imperium. Although I might be a bit biased as a Dark Angels player. Wonderfully in depth tutorial. Really appreciate all the different applications of wet blending. Shows that technique at it's full potential.
Holy shit duncan. Your paint style is so classy. Lots of decent painters on youtube but you're a real master of the craft - you make it look so easy, but doing those eyes?? Ridiculously good.
I'm following this for my Azrael. Thank you so much for making this so easy to follow. I'm looking forward to tackling him. Im buying your paints too just for this
This is beyond impressive! Watching this and actually holding the model at the same time you can really appreciate how good this actually is. The eyes on this model are so tiny but look big on the video ! so wild. Amazing work. Im looking forward to painting this model but also nervous as all heck haha :)
I've finally cracked wet blending thanks to you! It's a confidence thing. I made practise cloaks, similar to the Dark Angel cloaks, from Greenstuff putty. One last thing, you didn't paint the white wings on the banner to the left of the cloak.
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA I've not been long back in the hobby after a 30 year break, so tackling such a lovely model has been kinda daunting! So thanks loads for breaking this down so wonderfully. ❤️ (The Lion can wait another couple of months once I can afford some better brushes heh.)
They became a chapter after adopting the Codex Atartes. You could think of them and all of the successors as a Legion. Though with the Lion returned, they may again become a legion.
Hey Duncan I'd really love and think it'd be really helpful if you releases a sort of "unedited" version of this videos so we can see the whole mini getting painted
How do you do basing on a mini? I find a ton of videos that cover making bases that don't have minis attached to them and then magically there's a painted mini on it at the end. And I find a ton of videos that show painting minis than magically there's a finished base under it at the end. But how do you actually do both? Do you glue a painted mini to a painted base? If so what glue do you use? Do you paint them both at the same time? If so in what order? Do you paint the base first then the mini? If so how do you fix any paint you get on the painted base?
It looks great! I have a question. I recently purchased a Warlord Titan and want to paint it with a Legio Crucius scheme. Are there any tutorials or recommended colors for this?
Thanks for the step-by-step guide! I have a question, if the flag is red (let's say like Blood Ravens red), do you apply a shade paint like Berserker Bloodshade before painting in the details so the shadows are shown on the flag or do you do it after details are painted but use Nuln Oil instead so that the other non-red details still get shaded but don't have a red pigment?

I believe Royal Cloak is a TTC paint, not citadel.
Just pointing out.

As a very beginner painter, it's great to see a proper step by step from someone who knows what they are doing. Thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful!

Marneus Calgar, a worthy contestor to that title
Dante. Enough said.

Love your brushwork. Airbrushes seem not to be for me, so it is encouraging to see what can be accomplished with a brush. Thank you!
Great painting tutorial from one of my favorite Space Marine chapters!

Just have fun with it 👍
41:43 i hope you remembered the skulls xD
Wet blending on robes is so much faster than glazing gradients. I can’t believe I never gave it a go
I’m a blood angels collector/painter but I might have to get a second one going starting with Azrael. His Angels of Death.
I've finally cracked wet blending thanks to you!

It should be illegal to be this talented. Wish I had 1% of your control and skill
It's just tons and tons of practice.
shout outs to Duncan doing these details without magnification
Couple months ago. Been magnetizing my bases. Woof. Two armies of that.
That's a damn fine paint job there! Also great to see your paint range getting some love.
Brilliant, as always! I lack the patience (and eyesight!) to push my painting *quite* this far, but your work is always inspiring.
Ah perfect! I've been holding off painting him!
Guess it's your lucky day today 😊 In all seriousness though, it's a beautiful miniature to paint.

Legion just sound cool right?
@DuncanRhodesDRPA well of course. They are the first Legion after all.
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA The First Legion sounds even cooler
Thanks for the video! Always amazing!
Our pleasure!
Into my painting guides list this goes!

I don’t own or paint minis but I still enjoy watching a master at his craft
Wow, thanks for the kind words. You ever thought about giving it a go?
Thank you!
Please do more advanced videos like this 😊😊😊

Where is The music of your intro come from?
Keep going on your amazing job, Duncan!

Bob Ross. What a legend! So many "Happy accidents".
8:43 SLAYER !!!!!
Hey Duncan, how about painting some of the new seraphon?
Amazing job

Looking at my grey Azrael... I don’t know, think he’s staying in the box until I’m up to scratch with my blending 😅
Great tutorial on one of my favourite models. Just one thing, your graphic says Royal Cloak is a Citadel paint but I don’t think it is?
Thanks for the info! We'll sort it out asap :-)
not DA fan but like watching the vids
За Азраила и двор стреляю из плазмы с перегревом в упор!
What wet palette do you use please
What do you use for the sub assembly
Any chance you'll do Lion el Jonson?
Already done! It was the video of the Month over at the Academy (www.duncanrhodes.com)and our longest tutorial so far...90 minutes!
what is your intro music? 😍
I want a tutorial for The Lion. ❤
We have a full guide over on our Academy website (www.duncanrhodes.com)

Excuse me, chapter??? You of course mean the mighty first LEGION, lead by the legendary lion el johnson (honored be his name)
Whoops...Legion it is 😂 Nothing to see here.....
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA Good, I see Asmodai isnt necessary on this day. So far
For something that carry "Supreme" disappointingly he didn't have primary red colour
For the feather my phone didn’t have a high enough resolution for me to even see those details 😅
WHAT ABOUT THE SKULLS
* G U L P S *
Yaaay :DDD
Yay!
This makes me regret giving my Dark Angels away....
:O
What do eldar kids enjoy at school?
Arts and cratfworld.
Nice :-)
thats a meaty swallow in the begging
Mentions Bob Ross, proceeds to bash brush. It can't be helped 😂👍
Hee hee
Meanwhile me an intellectual. Prime white, use speedpaints
Everything was going great until I got to the sword! 😭
"Chapter" .. yes NOT a legion! no no...
Azrael wears a poiple kilt 🤡🤡🤡
