      Thank you John and I appreciate your comment. I don't like to dribble on just to make the videos longer so that they can get more revenue......I like to stick to the point on everything I do. Happy New Year John and take care,

    Always like to see you potting orchids…never mind the genus. I grow all the orchids indoors in the winter so sadly Draculas wouldn’t like living with me 😊.

      Good evening Lesley and thanks for your comment. A member of our society grows everything indoors and has some wonderful orchids especially paphiopedilums..........thank you and take care,

    Nice looking Dracula Ed, it is a true beauty when in bloom or should I say when they finally bloom but I would use a smaller mesh pot to make the plant feel more compact, I’ve only recently exchanged for a small division so don’t expect any blooms this year I’ll have to look at yours and Lynn’s in up and coming videos. So have a happy new year an awesome growing season.

      Happy New Year Mick and I hope you have many of them. The plant is only in a 9cm basket so I presumed it wasn't too big. I'll keep an eye open for your plant and for Lynns and if they are doing better than mine I will them revert to something smaller. My other Dracula is doing fine in the same size of basket. Have fun and success in the coming year Mick you have put a lot of hard work into your project.......take care and keep well,
      Ed.

    I have a Dracula in my dining room window…it gets pretty chilly around those windows as it is winter here. Even had 3 spikes, but they failed. Nice new growths coming…it probably won’t ever amount to much 🤦‍♀️

      Good evening Michelle and thank you for your comment. I hope that the Dracula you have in your living room will bloom for you the next time........try to give it a bit more air movement it might do the trick for you and a little less light......they always prefer shaded places.......thank you again and take care,
      Ed.

    Hello Ed, I am slowly catching up on watching my videos. I have been pretty busy lately and had my granddaughter stay withe for a few days.(unexpected) she ended up with a cold and my husband had to take her home. Now I have to double up on my supplements to keep from getting sick.(which is very hard to get rid of in condition) so far not too bad. Take care my friend. 😊

      Sorry your going through a bad patch Valarie. If it's easier for you don't bother leaving me comments for a while and have rest. I really could do with a rest from answering all the comments it's taking me a couple of hours each night to reply to everyone. Please look after yourself and get better very soon,

    Can you show the state of the Brassidium, it had formed a flower stalk. Thanks and stay healthy!

    Hi Ed, Happy New Year to you, I have a couple of suggestions for you. I have found saulii to be a very fussy Dracula. It is one of the ones that can be grown on the warmer side without any bad effects. That said I have now moved my 3 into the cool house to see if that will get me some flowers. Can I suggest that you pot it down, these fine rooted Dracula do not need large deep pots. I usually use the small octagonal baskets that Peter White sells. They are not cheap but you can even get away with shallower than that. I have had flower spikes on my 3 since I put them in the cool house and am still waiting for it to flower. Can I also suggest put a tiny bit of charcoal in with the mix at well. I have started growing the ones with the fleshier roots in a bark mix and they love it. Not good for these fine rooted ones though. I also grow mine in shade most of the time as well, but this time of year that is not difficult and they are hanging in the roof apex like yours. It may well be that you are setting it back each time you re-pot it as well but only time will tell with that one. By the law of averages my spikes should flower soon. Can I ask where you get the larger perlite from please as I need some more. Good Luck with it. It is one of my favourite, the only well flowered saulii I have seen was grown by one of our other members and it was a specimen size plant that had in excess of 30 blooms on it a thing of true beauty. He then split it and I am not sure it has flowered for him since that time, not like it did at any rate. One of the ones I have is a piece of his.

      A Very Happy New Year to you Lynn may it be full of enjoyment and pleasure for you and your family. I was hoping that this video would get a comment from you because I always admire yours when I see them on video. Thank you for your very interesting comment and I do appreciate the contents and the the trouble it has taken you to write it. I bet the plant with all those blooms was a joy to see and the grower should get an awful lot of credit for his growing skills. Thank you Lynn and take care,
      Ed.

      @@EdsOrchids well if we can’t support each other then it is a pretty poor show. I hope you had a lovely Christmas as well, all I want now is the weather to move on to some proper winter weather instead of all this damp with 100% humidity in my greenhouses, it is just crazy and a constant battle with slugs and snails as well. Your saulii is a lovely sized plant and growing on beautifully as well. Alan is one of those guys that if you cannot get an orchid to flower you give it to him and he will. He has a large greenhouse and it is bursting at the seams and he has the greenest fingers of anyone I know be it in the garden or in the greenhouse. He has his failures as well but I have to say I have never seen a saulii flower like his did a couple of years ago. One of mine is now a specimen sized plant and has been continually been putting out flower spikes since last summer but in the warm house I only managed to flower 3 buds in total at a time the rest just faded. That was when I decided they were going back in the cool house and they are much happier, even though they are supposed to withstand warmer temperatures. We can but try these things and cross our fingers.

    I believe the drop in subscribers could be due the UK's exit from the EU and also because it is winter. New subscribers are eager to watch videos showing what's available in the market and the opportunity to share ideas. Due to our restrictive market to purchase new stock, viewers may find our videos very repetitive, plus the fact that our pricing isn't very competitive.

    • @EdsOrchids
      @EdsOrchids  2 роки тому +1

      Good thoughts Margaret but I don't think Brexit is responsible for as many things we are told......but let's keep these channels away from politics!! I agree most of the videos are repetitive but , as you know, when a subscriber asks you to show something which you have shown in the past couple of weeks it's our awareness that makes us show the plants again. Thank you Margaret for your comment and maybe we will meet at a show sometime??

    Well, my first Dracula is, gess what, a Saulii. I wanted to ask, when it is the right time to pot it in a basket. Now it is a tiny plant in a tiny pot. I cannot remember where i read it, but can they flower in a regular pot? Climbing out on top? 🤔

    • @EdsOrchids
      @EdsOrchids  2 роки тому

      I wouldn't know whether they can be flowered in an ordinary pot but everything is worth a try. You cannot put them in anything better than a basket because of the air they will get and the air spaces will make way for all the spikes. Good luck with your saulii I hope it does well for you,
      Ed
