- You’ve probably heard of a monkey-faced orchid and aren’t sure if someone was just pulling your leg, or if they are in fact, “a thing”.Monkey-faced orchids are real and they’re denominated Dracula orchids. To care for Dracula orchids (or monkey-faced orchids), you need to provide low light conditions, around 1,200 fc to 2,000 fc, a humidity range of above 70% preferably between 75-80%. They prefer cool growing environments between 50 to 77F (10 to 25 C) . Dracula orchids hardly like any fertilizer, but grow with daily waterings, and lots of cool air movement. By no means do I consider myself an expert but I'm an avid learner and willing to share the little I know with others. There are thousands of different ways to care for orchids, and the more we share, the more we learn.
What started out as a hobby has now grown into a passion, producing an online resource of quality information on how to connect with nature.

Great video Amanda. I actually saw a Dracula at my garden centre yesterday. Beautiful, but I knew it wasn’t for me. Great editing too. 💚
Hi Sheila, Awesome! Draculas are hard to see in nurseries and garden centers. You are lucky. Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment! I appreciate it.
Hello! You surely ment 10- 25 °C not F. But i think most of us will get it☺. Very nice video and informatio too, ideal for beginners of this species.👍
Awesome video!!! I am in the process of making a couple tanks,,, I might just give it a try with the smaller one. Thank you so much for sharing!! 😁😁👍
Hi Valarie, Go for it! It can be a lot of work to set up the tanks in the beginning, but once they are up and running, it's well worth it.
Excellent and a great help. Thank you.
HI Mike, Glad it helped! Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment. I appreciate it.
Good, informative video thanks. They're much too particular in their needs for me but it's good to know what would keep them happy.
Hi Carole, Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment. Glad it was helpful!
Great video! Lot´s of useful tips and tricks but one question remains.. ;-) Do you keep the top of the tank open?
Great video. Thank you.
Hi Ana Mourao, You are welcome! I'm glad you like it. :)
can i set these up in a glass case/terrarium with a humidifier?
I have just ordered a dracula transilvania orchid and I want to get an environment set up for it. What color of LED light do you recommend to use?
Great video....started me thinking I may try.. I am not sure of myself though......
Hi Joseph, Dracula orchids are a bit tricky, but I think that once you understand their needs, they are amazing. You should give them a try! If you want, look into Masdevallias, too. I think those are prettier and they live in the same conditions and habitats.
If you can affort all the needings of this orchiid or got the right invironment you can try. I startet 20 yrs ago with orchids because i get one as a present. I had this orchid over 17 yrs. tragicly it died because it get weak if i left to an other climate. No matter what orchid you want to try, i controle them daily because diseases may come slow so you need an good eye for catching all differences iven if they are small and you will be able to prevent early enough. Water is also very important because tap water may not always the best option...
Great video. I live in Southern California so I will pass...I have killed masd. and Milt. because it get too warn and dry here. Beautiful though.
Hi Laurence, Thanks. Yeah, that's hard to keep cool in those temperatures. I'm you enjoyed the video.
It’s spelled Colombia, not Columbia. Thanks!
There you are.
