beautiful bloom, 👏. Ive had all kinds of dracs but i just bought my first Chimaera so im playing catch-up. your videos are so informative and nicely produced, so the more the merrier--and much needed-- for the growing number of cool-orchid fans, myself included.

Chimaera has been my favourite Dracula forever, I like loads of them but there is something about chimaera and it is stunning. Close up work is brilliant with that phone too and you can see so much more detail. One thing that irritates me slightly with chimaera, and it doesn’t always do it, is the way the top petal twists itself round, that is a pain. The flowers never last long, you are lucky to get them to a week. My chimaera ‘ big’ lost 2 flowers which opened together after 4 days, but then they are successive flowers so thats not too bad. The more successful flowering’s you have the better the flowers get. I will never tire of this one though. It is always very rewarding when they eventually present to with what you have been waiting for. My chimaera ‘big’ has sphagnum lining the basket and inside I have put a medium bark mix of orchiata, charcoal and a little bit of chopped sphagnum. There are others that have the bigger fleshier roots who are in bark, charcoal and perlite all the time and they do really well in it as well. Stay safe Mick.

Lynn I respect all your comments you’ve had much more success then me to be honest I’ve only been growing orchids since 2016 but I just love the cool growers, will try your mix when I repot early next year, must admit the close up on the camera phone is great and I’m getting used to it now just need more blooms to try it out on 😂. Mine seems to turn that leaf over I thought it might be because it’s only just opened. Anyway thanks for the advice happy growing and stay safe.

Mick I do not think I will ever tire of Dracula’s especially the big flashy ones like chimaera, and it never ceases to amaze me how different the clones can be. It is my most reliable bloomer by far. Even now, after all these years, I still have trouble with vampira it is just so temperamental. The gigas is just as showy but difficult to accommodate. I hope you get more repeat flowering’s than I did this time, mine only did 2 and then stopped. Take care.
