Dig Levon laying down the pocket! THE MOST UNDERRATED DRUMMER EVER! Guys like the late great Neil Peart could take lessons from this guy. AND HE"S SINGING! Awesome!
Don’t know about the “underrated” part. I’m a guitarist and not really in the drum world but scorcese made a movie about the dudes and he regularly hung out with Billy Bob Thornton and the like. I’d say he was rated.
Seeing The Band with opening act Taj Mahal at the Civic in 1971 was one of the highlights of my growing up. It's the show that made up my mind that being a professional musician was the only occupation worth dying for.......
That’s a damn talented group of musicians on that stage. I find myself pulling up this footage at least once a month, when I need a jolt of good vibes. Thank you gentlemen, for sharing your music with the world.
no group could EVER do such a LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! live performance as the Band. I saw them twice. The Greatest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! North American rock band ever!!!! Only the Beatles I think could have made a concert more electrifying and alive, but I never saw them
Tom Phillips no band? No other band was GREAT live? No other bands come to mind? Hmm...I can think of one pretty good one😂. The Band are in my top 5 maybe top 3 definitely top 10. Better than The Rolling Stones which isn’t saying that much😆
I love their version of this Marvin Gaye song! Levon definitely adds the grit and rooted quality to their music - they're all great musicians, but there's something about Levon that's so unapologetically himself, southern and down to earth that I savor. And his voice is so clearly from the American south among all of the Canadians. They were a special group. I just don't understand why they bothered to try to make it seem like Robbie Robertson could sing when he couldn't and his mike had to be kept turned off! Why bother? Was it for his ego?
Wow If this is the old Casino Arena in Asbury Park NJ then my wife and I were there. We arrived for the show and it was postponed so we went to the Stone Pony and took in Southside and even met Steve Van Zant. We returned back the next Night and saw THE BAND and as usual great show !!
And they worked like dogs for years to refine and develop their talent as a cover and dance band. They were a true, touring, hard living, hard loving, hard fighting band, who got into fights sometimes just trying to get into the parking lot at the end of a gig - just like in the Blues Brothers movie when they had bottles thrown at them onstage. That really happened to The Band.
Danko 🌴🍁🌴
I've always loved the way Rick Danko bounced around in his day. JOY.
They could all sing and play multiple instruments,it doesn't get any better than the band 😊

Not too sure about Neil taking lessons from Levon but obviously he was great drummer/singer!

How somebody does something as complicated as sing and play the drums at the same time is beyond me . Wow

Levon Helm - holding down the two most important jobs in a band - vocals and drums.
Did anyone think The Band would be as legendary now as they were 45 years ago?
That’s a damn talented group of musicians on that stage. I find myself pulling up this footage at least once a month, when I need a jolt of good vibes. Thank you gentlemen, for sharing your music with the world.
Yes, here in Brazil me too.
I was so blessed to have been at this show. I miss these guys so much.
What a band , great musicians, highly good singers, amazing group, it is 2022 and it's been almost a year, not listening to anything but The Band
Here, the band demonstrates why they were The Band.

Robbie could sing, but not like Richard, Levon or my favorite RIck Danko. He did sing harmony, he wrote the songs with a particular singer in mind.
Priceless
Great Band

It was...
This is just amazing. Just a few guys playing their own instruments and this shit comes out?!?! Just God given talent...

American Music cannot touch this today
Every one of these Band-performances of "Don't Do It" is a little different. True artists.
I've been in the habit lately of trying to listen to them all. Such a groover.
Which is odd since they were notorious as not being a jam improvisatory band. I think what's unusual is that it's REALLY LIVE.
This was the tour that ended with The Last Waltz.
Best band ever
My biggest mistake was loving you to Much
Pleaaaaaase
We are the best group for me i love you❤️🔝😊🎼

Going Down to the river and there I'll be. I'm gonna jump in girl! Cause you don't love me.
PER ELTON JOHN>>>>>NO DRUMMER SHOULD EVER SING.....EXCEPT LEVON HELM.....LOOK IT UP. LEVON WAS A MUSIC MASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JJ
The way Robbie plays it I think he would suit a Gibson... a little more meat on those notes
