You got an automatic Like for including _The Shockwave Rider,_ by John Brunner in the books category. Although beyond the scope of this video, I wish you would've mentioned that it is a novel take on the _Future Shock,_ by Alvin Toffler.
My mans back. Fucking great video fam, I think you're one of the only people on the platform investing in the history of gaming so that more people might understand it and know where the industry came from and where we're at now. Top tier shit fam, can't wait for more
Syndicate and Flashback are my most rememberable and favorite old games of this style so it was great to see them highlighted. I will have to check out some of these others as well
Happy to see another "A Brief History"! I never read "do androids dream of electric sheep" but the title stuck with me for the longest time, before I found out about Bladerunner, Cyberpunk, Ghost in the Shell and all the games the genre inspired. Such a catchy title, but I was never into Science Fiction novels, I believe it works much better in a visual medium, I played most of the games you included in the "Cyberpunk Renaissance", the indie ones were all great!
I agree, sci-fi novels are good, but movies and games really drive home the wild ideas of cyberpunk. I played a few of the newer titles, I'm definitely excited to try the others I've mentioned. Thanks for the view and comments my friend!
This was an awesome video. I really enjoy seeing these history lessons in a specific genre/theme. It put me in the mood to play some cyberpunk games! Brb I'll be over here infiltrating and hacking in Satellite Reign.
You missed Omikron: The Nomad Soul. Quantic Dream's first game (the developers of Heavy Rain, Detroid: Become Human etc.) released in 1999. It takes place in a sprawling Cyberpunk metropolis and also deals with themes like the essence of humanity, transferable consciousness and others. It's a crime investigative thriller with action elements.
To be fair there are a LOT of Cyberpunk games, there were a lot that were missed, like all of the Terminator games for example of which there are a lot, but yeah Omikron probably deserved a mention.
I'll be honest, I never really thought I'd played many Cyberpunk games (didn't really know what defined it though either) but wow... I've played a hell of a lot of these games! I think I love Cyberpunk 😂 Great video mate, the editing on this bad boy is slick as hell and the subject is truly compelling, well done. As for suggestions... I mean you could always stick with the punk theme and maybe take a peak at some Steampunk?
Steampunk is an interesting idea, I don't know many steampunk games off the top of my head tbh. I'll have to research that haha. Thanks for the support my dude
@@MrHammers Some Steampunk titles I'm aware of: - Dishonored series - The Order: 1886 - Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magic Obscura - Thief series - Bioshock series - Fable 2 and 3 - the Alice games - some of the Final Fantasy games
Learning a lot of cool looking games here and some underrated gems that I've know about. Remember me is pretty good so it's good to see it get a shout out.
A lot of these games I've wanted to check out. 2064: Read Only Memories was one I had never heard of, but the soundtrack alone has made me want to check it out. 21:12 is a track from the OST
Surprised you did not include Omikron: The Nomad Soul - featuring David Bowie playing David Bowie!. Coming from the same Studio that made Heavy Rain/Beyond Two Souls/Fahrenheit and Detroit: Become Human. Detroit and Omikron being the most Cyberpunk games on the list. Great video, really informative, and you put a lot of stuff on my list of gotta get to.
Ps one ghost in the shell would be my holy graill to acquire someday. It was on a demo disc way back in the 90's and i became obsessed with ghost in the shell later in my life. Gits in general is so awesome.
Good video. But... background music is too loud -- hard to hear your voice clearly sometimes. And those *beep* sounds when you mention some author etc are wayyyy too loud. Overall the video could use some of volume normalization and compression and boost. It would help tremendously... Keep up good work. Cheers.
I was having trouble remembering syndicate [wars]. Sweet. Now I can look it up on the raspberry pi. Glad your channel popped back up on my feed.been subbed but it just disappears unless I go looking.
Neocron made me fall in love with Post-Apoc, Cyberpunk and MMO genres. It was my first introduction to each genre. I miss the game, and I know you can still play it, but is not the same as it was in it's prime.
Another awesome part of the cyberpunk genre is the show, Altered Carbon. It came out in Netflix and is an amazing show that I think rivals that of Blade Runner.
Does Altered Carbon not count either? Seeing as it’s a couple years later. Blade Runner/Alter Carbon and Cyberpunk itself (any form) is the best I’ve seen from the genre. It’d be cool if CP made DLC to the first 2 I mentioned.
Sega Genesis/MegaDrive version of Shadowrun, which is COMPLETELY different and only the same game in name only, is by far the MOST superior Shadowrun game made but sadly is never mentioned while the great BUT inferior SNES version is always in videos. The Sega version (Not port as its a different game) is most like its pen and paper counterpart and the hacking in cyberspace transforms the game into something else. While the game is a top down, action RPG, when in cyberspace it becomes a 3rd person action strategy. What makes this game so much fun is that outside of doing Johnson Runs (Fixers in Cyberpunk) you can randomly hack into the Net and get into random systems where you can collect random data and sell it or randomly hack into a bank (that you didn't know until the hack was successful) and collect money. You can also hack into closed systems when you do runs that have you enter Corpo buildings and if you choose to, hack into consoles and get into their systems. For a Genesis/Mega Drive game, this was packed FULL of content. Shadowrun and D&D: Warriors of the Eternal Sun are easily my two favorite games for the Genesis that are so different from any RPG that is on that system
@@MrHammers YOU. HAVE. TO. PLAY. IT. Or at the very least, watch a lets play. Its such a darker, not family friendly game. Also, Play Warriors of the Eternal Sun too.
"MrHammers" nails it again, great CP2077 Lore. I do.own a copy of Cyberpunk 2077 since it's release & if CDProjektRedl would of took the time needed to perfect the game. This game would been knock GTA out the water......even Saint's Row couldn't touch Cyberpunk.💯♥️♦️♣️🖤❤♥️
The first system shock is the second best cyberpunk game behind Deus Ex. System shock 2 was good but leans more towards general science fiction rather than true cyberpunk.
just wanna point out that the first deus ex is not cyberpunk its more realistic than people realize. first encounter with the "terrorist" up top the starting area is telling you 100% truth. Ross game dungeon deus ex goes into depth there
I know it’s a hot button topic but trans-humanism and bio-horror is an undeniable aspect of the cyberpunk genre. I feel like the biohorror aspect has been underplayed in recent year because of obvious social issues
Cool video. Even though cyberpunk 2077 failed to live up to the hype, I think the core themes of the genre will be here to stay in media as long as it reflects aspects of reality for the majority of people.
First, let me say I'm going to watch your other videos based on the strength of this one. However, this will probably be very unpopular here, but I think this video would have been a little better if you didn't mention so many games and been a little more discriminating in what you mentioned. It's still a good video and I'm going to check out your other stuff.
I'd say at least half of these aren't in the Cyberpunk genre or at the very least are reaching pretty hard. Love the channel but why not just make a video of half the length using 'pure' examples instead of including every single title that has ever had a CP influence?
Drug on very long. Title should be “I name 5000 cyberpunk inspired video games since 1982 and read 3 sentences about it until you’re bored.” Love your content but this format should change !
The matrix is absolutely not cyberpunk in any way what so ever it is a post apocalyptic scifi dystopia but lacks so many variables that would make it cyberpunk and i have no idea why you thought it would be cyberpunk
"In anyway whatsoever" lol You mean other than the fact "The Matrix" itself is inspired by Neuromancer and Netrunning? It's not strictly cyberpunk, but it is heavily inspired by the themes and has plenty of cyberpunk elements, worthy of being included in the list.

anyone remember megarace? man that game blew me away when i was a kid and had that cyberpunk vibe even though it was a racing game.
You should do a brief history of Steampunk as well!!

prey 2006 was more of a shooter than immersive sim, and more apocalyptic sci-fi than cyberpunk, but still a fun game :)
I always thought of Watch Dogs as a world at the beginning of becoming a Cyberpunk world.
