  • In a moment of weakness, I bought this 1964 Chevy C60 straight truck on a Big Iron auction. It was sitting on a ranch in the Nebraska Sandhills where it was used for many years, until the ranch bought a semi to haul grain with. This old truck is equipped with a 327 engine, 4 speed transmission, 2 speed rear differential, and a 16 foot grain box with a two cylinder hoist. I bought it sight unseen without much information or even talking to the owner. My reasoning behind it was to use it as a parts truck for a 65 Chevy L60 that I'm working on, which has sentimental significance. I made this video to try to test the various systems of the truck and determine what condition the components are in. Not to my surprise, I found out as I usually do, these old trucks get parked for a reason. I absolutely love the styling of these 1966 and older straight trucks. Unfortunately, they're almost completely worthless unless they're in operating condition. Even then, there's not much demand for them since there's so many of them, and farms nowadays aren't equipped for them. Nevertheless, it doesn't stop me from wanting to get at least one of them drivable again, even if it's just for cruising around and occasionally hauling something.
