In 1969 Imperial received the makeover. Whole new body style. It was the fuselage era. I owned a 1969 Imperial LeBaron by Chrysler Corporation. These cars at the time -were virtually handmade for a production automobile. It was a remarkable time in automotive history. Imperial was truly the best of the best. When Lee Iacocca took over Chrysler he drove the Chrysler Fifth Avenue. I bought again in 1982 as the Imperial became a two-door coupe. It too was very luxurious. They even made a Frank Sinatra edition. Chrysler brought back the brand in 1990 through 1993. A far cry from the previous models. 🇺🇸
My father-in-law had that exact car but it was a darker green color. My wife ended up with it when we got married in 1978. I showed her the video and she remembered everything you were talking about. ♥️👍🏼
@@ChiefClassics I have a 1961 Pontiac Ventura 2 Dr bubble top w/rebuilt 389 & trans has clear MT title also have 61 Pontiac Catalina 4 Dr hdtp complete does run has 389 also no title. Great parts car $6000. For both. Would be a great road trip for you!!
Betty Swick is still alive! She is 85 and lives Batesland South Dakota, Larry died in 2021. I had a Ford Escort that had 2 fuel pumps, they added an Electric fuel pump because it was getting Vapor Lock.
I like the video, watched a few of your videos already. Read this with a friendly intension... The 440 isnt a low power version..350 hp and 480 torque with a tiny 595cfm Holley 4bbl.. If it has no power, check the linkage and ensure the carburetor works properly and check compression, they run fine running on a cylinder or 2 down.. These can run and burn rubber with no brake holding and have awesome power for such a big car.. My buddy ran 14.60's in the 1/4 with his 4 door 1967 Imperial,440 595 cfm 4bbl and 2.94 sure grip rear and single exhaust...Some had more power with duel exhaust and duel snorkel air cleaner.. He ran low 6 sec 0-60 pretty good for a luxury car with a tiny 595 cfm Holley from the factory..Add a 780 cfm Holley and duel exhaust he ran 14 flat..He loved that car,it beat my brothers then new 1990 Mustang GT 5.0 albeit Automatic but still, pretty cool...We live 10 minutes from a drag strip, west coast and sea level..I have a Black Book with over 200 cars/times/races we have done since the late 1980's..I am early 50 year old sadly look 35(dont want to look like a millennial and accused of such lol). 440 performance version aka Chrysler 440 TNT,Dodge 440 Magnum,Plymouth 440 Super Commando had 410 hp but advertised 375..the 350 was closer to 375 hp as these big Chryslers moved good)..I ran 13.70's with my 2 door 100% stock 70 Chrysler 300 440 TNT and 3.55 gears(factory option with the tow package!)..The High Performance 440's used a 750 cfm Carter ditto the High Performance 383 used the Carter, non high performance 383 used a 4barrel Holley for 440 and 383! I bet the shocks are worn as these cars dont really bounce around, they are firmer than Cadillacs,Lincolns and the Imperials handle better but they ride a bit rougher albeit smooth! I collect old cars mainly Mopar but have a few GM/Ford love all of them. Collected since a teen in the mid 1980's..Loaded up our old shop on our farm here with cars..I owned a 71 Grand Prix 455 since 1992 and a 69 Lincoln Mark III and the 70 300 since 1990.I never wrecked them as a teen, young 20 year old easily could have lol Anyways good video..
It can be pretty fast if you tune it right. It needs dual exhaust. For max acceleration, you need to shift manually, the automatic shifts are too early, and the gears are tall for speed.
@@edwardormsby4963 You are correct, it was 1968. The dual exhaust likely adds 20-25 hp. This engine will do a lot better with dual exhaust, acceleration over 3000 rpm will really improve, as well as the top speed. In stock form and dual exhaust, even with the small cam the Imperial 440 has, it should be able to reach 140. That is not slow.
Great find. Very well equipped too. 440 TNT? Put that antenna shaft back down the hole. My dad had a 67 New Yorker with similar equipment including tilt and telescopic. That foot button above the headlight dimmer looks to be a radio station changer for original radio. AC thermostatic dash unit had a good reputation.
very nice mopar! you are getting much more comfortable talking to us! you are funny as heck! I'd love to know how much you sell this for it's a damn nice car! I am interested, just have to get out by you from Pa.
That is a very nice luxury car. As far as the burnouts, I've never understood the point of burning up questionable tires in the first place. Taking a chance of ruining a quarter panel. I think it's ridiculous. Maybe it does more for you guys. Most of this girls think it's stupid
Awesome car- I have always liked sedans. While I do have a '69 Dart Swinger 340, most people know my "Baby Poop Brown (aka "Golden Fawn"- it is an awful color in some respects)" '76 Valiant "Custom" sedan. It looks stock, but one look at the brakes, suspension, & under the hood reveals it's a lot more fun than you'd think
in response to the comment below, the person writing refers to them being handmade, an imperial tradition, parts might be painted on the line, i have owned several 62, 63, exner cars when imperial was stand alone and was referred to as an "imperial"if you ever watch old movies if you see a chrysler dealer in large chrome letters on top of the sign in imperial script saying imperial, that was true until the fuselage cars came back then they became chrysler imperial again, they were chrysler imperials before virgil exner came to chrysler in 1955, he gave them that "million dollar look" then came the 62 plymouth fury and out went exner at the end of 1963, the lebaron coachworks closed down too, the place where his team designed a good many early sixties mopar dream cars, all of the fin cars but only the imperials then were built there, when exner left the 64s still sat on a full frame i THINK they weny unibody in 66,
Despite the little flaws what a beautiful car
I love the way you talk in your video. Honest and educative. I learn a lot listening to you. Good boy you are 😊
Thank you! I try to be informative and marginally entertaining lol
Nothing rides like a Chrysler One of the best rides of the time

I have a 69 LeBaron 2 door. Owned it since 94. Been parked a long time now because of a bad fuel pump.
Best sounding barn find engine ever!! Awesome!!

Love it. the sound of that 727 and the 440 are awesome.
What a beautiful car! I'd daily that in a heartbeat.
Wow body is in excellent shape
Hi you do great work I love your videos every thing you do is a least real other are to fake as retired 20 year mechanic I'm impressed
I appreciate it! I don't have any formal training in this stuff, but I do a good job at faking it!
I love the sixty six model id love to find one they are the last year of the body on frame and they are very strong and well built

A one year option was a 360 hp 440. It came with dual exhaust and a dual air snorkel. 1968 only i believe.

I appreciate it! That means a lot, and I'd like to think I've gotten better at it in the last year. I'm going to list it for $7,000
I like to hear about the farm life.

Back in the day that was a PRIMO ride. If you could afford that you were somebody. List price in 1968 was $7,599, now $68,849.78 in 2014 "dollars."
That's diesel pickup money! Goodness!
Turn the horn button for telescoping steering!

Unibody started for imperial in 1967 on a 127 in wheel base. 66 was the last year for the frame on 129 in wheelbase.
Bob Hoffmeister at Imperial Heaven may have those missing trim pieces.
not a Pontiac but a neat car just the same, bet these were pricey when new
Nearest I can tell, it was about $2,300, so around $60,000 today!
neat car but your major problem is going to be the electric system and the air conditioning/climate control.what happened to the cutlass?
Still have it! It's just holding down the shop floor
Rotors 😅
Shawn Schroff at Dura Brake reproduced rotors quite a while back. They still come up for occasionally. They fit 67-69.
it’s NOT a Chrysler!
