I'm so glad I finally got to see a nonvegan make these! I've watched so many vegans say they taste so good and like eggs... Forgive me if I don't believe someone who hasn't had egg in years. xD (I have been vegan for over a decade, so honestly if it wasn't perfect I wouldn't know. I still plan to try these some day!)
Yeah same when vegans make video's like this it kinda sounds like false advertisement to me
@@lord_xylozdoomsday959 If I ever make a video trying something or whatever I always say it taste like I remember it tasting, and throw in reminders of how long I've been veg/vegan. XD Because it ain't fair to say it's the same. Haha
It’s cool visually, but it’s kind of like eating a cake in the shape of literally any other food: in the end it’s cake. Still great from a taste point of view, but definitely isn’t what you first thought it was.
Yeah I mean I'm veggie, not vegan, but it's been 12, almost 13, years, I'm not gonna pretend I remember exactly what various meats taste like. And being occasionally lactose intolerant (chronic health issues) I can tell you, many if not most vegans have definitely forgotten what dairy really tastes like. I struggle to find vegan cheese that's anyway close, at least in Ireland. Tesco own brand is the best I've tried but even that had a very strong sour yeasty aftertaste. But I've had vegan friends swear blind violife is spot on for cheddar, and it's just not.
Try adding a pinch of baking soda to the egg white to eliminate the coconut taste to get closer.
The "yolk" looks so much like a big dollop of yellow mustard
Moonboots that’s what turnt me off from it. However I don’t eat eggs themselves so I was turnt off from the beginning.
Mitch so you got turnt off from being turnt off? So you loved it?

I LOVE nutritional yeast on popcorn. It’s seriously underrated
Kim Shea my mom used to do that, it is very good
Such a good snack 😍👌
i pretty much don’t eat popcorn without nutritional yeast anymore
Try NY and chilli powder on popcorn. Talk about yummy
My friend and I used to binge on that at sleepovers
I don't think I know of any other channel that puts out such well thought out, planned, and executed videos 3x a week...well done, Emmy
This seems like a ton of steps for not a great payoff, but it LOOKS beautiful!
I've got to agree. I appreciate it as a culinary experiment, but it's a LOT of work for something as ubiquitous as an egg. Counting in the shipping for the black salt, how it's processed (doesn't seem very carbon neutral burning salt with charcoal), and everything else required to source the ingredients... not sure what problem it solves really. It's not even going to provide you with much protein I believe.
Anyway, keep the odd recipes coming Emmy!
Sounds like veganism
Why not just have a real egg? Chickens naturally lay eggs daily anyway, and if you keep one as a pet, its completely cruelty free.
BishtrainerTai16 completely agree that’s why I’m a vegetarian and not a vegan because I believe that too
@@encryptacat8817 dude have you actually tried any vegan dishes? I am not a vegan and I'd always been under the impression that a lot of alternative versions of food (i.e cheese) would be really bland, until I tried some good ones. Some items are indistinguishable from the real thing, or are really creative and interesting new takes on foods I wouldn't have thought of preparing.
A lot of vegan dishes seems to be either look accurate, or taste accurate. You can't seem to get both.
Your right asva vegan.... It's can say yes.
A s h l e y How is it rude 😂
My advice is to just...stop eating mock-foods. It will never be better than a well rounded meal completely based on plants. It’s okay for a craving once and awhile, but 9/10 real, whole, veggie based meals will ALWAYS be better tasting and way better for your body.
I hope people don’t see this and think this is what vegans are eating on a regular basis, desperately trying to replace the animal products they cut out. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
@@Jay-qh6uv yeah true people have their own tastes in food the same as that every body has different nutritional needs
@@xSouled you're rude
You are the Bob Ross of cooking! I’m totally binge watching your channel and I found hundreds of food I want to try out! 💜💜💜
I am not vegan but I AM allergic to eggs. I crave eggs when I get way too anemic. I bet this would work for me. I haven't had eggs in over 30 years, so I don't really remember what they truly taste like.
Cleo Taylor there’s a product that came out called “just egg” by a vegan company and apparently it’s just like eggs and cooks like them as well! They carry it at Whole Foods and some other grocery stores ! Look and see if you can find it.
@@laylaariel3751 I have seen a few videos on you tube for it, but it hasn't came to our are yet. I am not sure where there would be a whole foods within 200 miles from us. I have been watching for it. Some of the local stores just started carrying the JUST mayo and some of their dressings. I usually just order it from amazon, but I haven't seen the egg product on their yet. Thanks for the idea though.
@@cleotaylor1860 Talk to your local supermarket. There are so many products nowdays, it's a struggle for shelf space. There is a "specialty foods" supplier that the supermarket can get such things if there is a request for it. Try asking for it by name, show the supermarket manager the picture and let him see what he can do. You'd be surprised what they can do if you only ask. (Former supermarket employee)
@Miss Maddie thank you very much I will try it.
There's so much wrong with this, so you wait to be anemic?
After many years and several dashed hopes, I've learned to instantly doubt any vegan recipe that claims "it tastes JUST LIKE ____", especially when it comes to eggs. Eggs are probably the most difficult thing to replace because of how differently they react to various cooking methods. In my experience, egg substitutes are either an underwhelming pale shade of what I know real eggs taste like, taste good but nothing like the real thing, or just bad, with too many weird flavors. This one actually looked (and apparently tasted) quite good so that's impressive.
Imho vegan cooking would be better off trying to create things that are delicious in their own right rather than emulate non-vegan foods. That being said, however, I will be first in line if/when science ever figures out how to synthesize an egg without animals, cause god damn I miss eggs Benedict.
Thanks for trying this recipe Emmy, unique and creative use of the egg fruit.
When she pulled out the Tabasco 🙏🏾
YAASSS.
Perfect 🍳
Plus the Tabasco covers up the flavor of the non egg.
Thanks for trying this. So many other vegan eggs if you want to try. I've heard there's a chickpea flour version that's good. Now that you have all that black salt. 🌱💚
I would love to see her try more vegan foods !
Black salt is good in the chickpea version of egg salad too.
Oooh! Vegan egg cook-off! yay.
You can make "whipped cream" with the water from canned chickpeas. Maybe she could make a vegan cloud egg!!

That has been my experience as well. I'm definitely going that route.
Ha! I love my eggy real eggs.
Was it sulfurous?
You can make a tastier fried egg substitute by frying thin slices of tofu and sprinkling them with black salt. Your yolk substitute sounds as good as any I've heard, and you can cook it better by using a large injector or icing piper to pipe it into the center of the tofu slices before frying - they just need to be thick enough in the middle.
I recommend frying them in a pan with a blend of olive oil and vegan butter, or use the same pan you used to make vegan bacon or sausage for extra flavor.
Hi Emmy. Learning a lot through your videos. The enthusiasm you have for your subject always makes me smile. Thank you for beeing a constant joy cheering me up after a not so good day.
As a vegan, I've seen several "fried egg" videos..I really appreciate your honesty on the taste. ❤

I’ve watched a ton of vegan videos lately where they make vegan eggs/talk about black salt. But leave it to Emmy to actually explain how it’s made. Thanks! 😂
What about unsweetened almond milk? That might work better than coconut milk
That was my thought too
Me too, or even silken tofu blended up with water and maybe corn starch
@@alexreith4877 That's a great idea as well. I can understand using full fat coconut milk for it's viscous fattiness and color, but the strong flavor of coconut just wouldn't work for this recipe.
A lighter tasting milk and a bit of zanthan gum would be an improvement over the coconut milk.
Maybe rice milk, and avocado oil instead of olive oil
Hey I got a great Idea!
Lets just buy organic eggs from a local farmer👍
I was thinking maybe replace the coconut milk w/ some kind of soft tofu? Scrambled tofu always satisfies my egg craving🤷🏿♀️
That's a great idea 😍
UniquetheArt So smart! Silken tofu would be great!
We can get a legit vegan egg going if we put all these great minds together.

To make an Arterchoak Pie
PERIOD: England, 17th century | SOURCE: A True Gentlewomans Delight, 1653 | CLASS: Authentic
DESCRIPTION: A recipe for sweet artichoke pie
To make an Arterchoak Pie
Take the bottome of six Arterchoaks, being boyled very tender, put them in a dish, and put some vinegar over them, season them with Ginger and Sugar, a little Mace whole, putting them into a Pie, and when you lay them in, lay some marrow, and some Dates sliced in, and a few Raisins of the Sun in the bottome, with good store of butter, so close the Pie, and when it is half baked, take a dish of Sack, being boyled first with Sugar, and a pill of Orange, put it in your pie, and set it in the Oven again, till you use it.
It looks so incredibly cool, but that's so much work for an "egg" :')
Natural gas has no odor. The smell is added to it to keep people from accidentally blowing their house up or breathing it in and going to sleep for a looooong time. The more you know!!! 😂
yeah... we had a gas leak in our fireplace once when i was younger. we all stared getting headaches. luckily we didnt die! i dont trust gas stoves etc...unless you are an expert they seem dangerous and for someone who worries...a nightmare.

Ellen Ripley i mean they are that’s why children aren’t usually allowed to play with them 😭
@@SoTypicallyMeh "Was I talking about gas?" ..... "More than anything else..." lol
Love it! Some ideas:
I would add turmeric to the yolk part to further the deeper orange color closer to a yolk. It’ll blend well with the Black Salt flavor. Really well.
Also, I use Baking Soda often to neutralize or blockout the taste of coconut oil. You don’t need much, it helps neutralize the acidity of the coconut and this eliminates the almost soap like flavor you get. Not sure if this would work here with the milk... but thought I’d share just in case!
I wonder if you put the two ingredients in an "eggy" and boil them if it would come out like a boiled egg?
I can pretty much guarantee they'd just obliterate. Dissolve into the water.
@@christinamata3405 the eggy is sealed, water doesn't go in. It acts like a shell.
No. There's no proteins there to hold it together, likely the patty will turn soft and sticky (like mochi), and the egg fruit will just become goo

I love cooking my eggs in organic coconut oil gives them a real nice coconutty taste. Sometimes I fry up some coconut shred slices in the oil (or butter if you don't want it so coconutty) first and then put the egg directly on top of that and let the egg and coconut fuse together. So Good!!!! I just found your channel I'm really loving it!! keep up the great work!

Emmy is so great at describing everything she can make dog food sound good
Emmy, did you use coconut milk, or cream of coconut? It looks like you used cream of coconut which is very sweet and coconutty.
She used coconut milk. She rather quietly says "I gave it a shake" which probably blended the coconut cream and water together in the can and made it look thicker
It's coconut milk! I use that brand too because it's really nice and thick & completely unsweetened
@@clockin7069 what brand is that??
@@mina0012 Chaokoh, it's the brand I use as well. Doesn't have any thickeners in it either so it's a really great choice.
Coconut milk will still taste like coconut, which isn’t bad at all, but can be a bit weird.

I love how elegantly descriptive you are in your videos. Always enjoy your content(:
In the UK that would be coconut cream, coconut milk is thin just like soya milk.
same here in Canada
Same in America too when I have been there, she may have just worded it wrong they do have coconut milk and coconut cream both of them
The US has coconut milk like you'd buy in the dairy section, canned coconut milk, and then that cream of coconut stuff you use for mixed drinks and whatnot. What she bought would be in the Asian food section at the grocery store.
Dal Bro that looks just like the canned coconut milk I use
No it's not, coconut milk comes in a tin here.
This looks amazing :) the closest recipe I've found so far for a vegan egg yolk is the Vegan Yolk Toast Dipping Sauce recipe from It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken. With this one, kind of thinking of keeping the coconut milk out if it, but might want to cook it in coconut oil. Also split the black salt into a one third, to third combination with a third going into the whites. Also with the dollop of yellow (yolk), you want to put a bit of white over it and turn it over to make an over easy egg. Love to see you try those suggestions and guidelines. Also fresh egg fruit would lend hand I suspect.

That’s a lot of work and fun to watch! However I’ll just crack an egg and have it cooked and eaten in less than 5 minutes. 🤣
2:30 - Natural gas is actually odorless, or at least it should be since any natural odor comes from hydrogen sulfide which is toxic. The smell comes from an odorant, usually containing sulfur, which is added to help keep people's houses from blowing up. Kala namak has Iron sulfide which gives it the sulfurous flavor. Btw, Kosher salt is just salt with fewer impurities and larger, pointier grains. If you dissolve table salt in water the solution is cloudy because of the impurities, but Kosher salt dissolved in water is clear.
definitely looks like an egg?? hm 🤔
Regarding the yolk mixture, possibly mixing the corn starch to the same amount of warm water before blending into yolk mixture. Top yoke mixture on the egg white immediately and let them cook together, covered. I think that would allow the yolk to set up some.
