This one of the most genius aspects of Cubase, in my opinion. As it allows more non-musicians to finally express the music within them in a far easier way! Just imagine how much more beautiful music the world will have when people, who don't know much about music theory, are able to express their creativity! Eddie Van Halen, Hendrix, Grohl, Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery, Clapton can't/couldn't read music, but look at their musical legacy!
After watching this video, I confirmed my purchase of the Cubase 13 upgrade. I think this is the best guide video for beginners and people who are already familiar with the use of the tool. ❤
At around 7:15, Dom mentiones the chord pads color coding as relating to the colors of "the assistant". I wonder to which specific assistant it relates, as there are at least two, i.e., the list assistant and the the circle of fifth assistant. The Proximity assistant from Cubase 12 has obviously disappeared in Cubase 13 Pro.
Thanks Dom. I've only recently started using chord pads and I do love them. I generally write my progressions by hand and while I know how to do it, I'm lazy and would rather not LOL. Also, there's some inspiration that can come from using chord pads. Looks like I should upgrade to Cubase 13 soon. I held off because I'm not too impressed with 12.
This is wonderful, you can get lost in playing around with beautiful sounds quickly. When I start It is hard to stop playing around and start working...🙂🙂
@@DimitrisKambanos In that case, you need to activate recording on a VST Instrument Track, and then play the chords either with your mouse or with a MIDI Keyboard...
This feature sold me on upgrading. Thanks, Dom. However for the life of me I cannot figure out how to suppress/filter the local Note On event, which often clashes with the pattern. I maybe missing something obvious, but for example, if the physical key on my controller is G#1 it will clash when playing back a G natural pattern. Any thoughts that don't include buying another controller are appreciated, please.
Love to new Chord Pad update!!🙏🏾 Question though? Where did y’all move the Get Chords from Chord track feature that use to be in the Chord pad drop down menu? Hi, new chord pad features are mind-blowing - thanks for the nice soulful demo! I am still on C12 and would like to ask if I can import my USER presets from C12 to C13, are user chord pad presets compatible with the newest version?
Have you tried to make a midi clip with your custom strum and drop it in the chord pads as a pattern? You can then make the strumming more custom than RipChord, yes? RipChord is just a robot strum. I wish you could assign a pattern per pad, like Scaler 2. But Scalers UI is a crazy mess.
@@rikkshow yeah but dropping a custom strum is just more admin. I was actually thinking of moving to scaler just yesterday. Will use that till maybe Cubase 14 comes with something new regarding chords. But thank you for the suggestions.
Facts!!! I literally was thinking this as I was utilizing the chord pads to today! Like Cubase is soooo dope, but a few small features like that would make it perfect! And the ability to Chop samples with a midi controller in the sampler track would be so dope! Especially for Hip Hop Producers!
You should talk to your people at cubase and get them to add a feature to chord pads. Where when one of the chord pads is highlighted, it shows all the notes in that scale on the right side. Allowing you to play a chord pad with your left hand and with your right hand you play along with the reamaning keys on your keyboad to whatever notes are in that scale. Be a great way for non piano players to see what notes work with that scale in real-time.
Can this chord system also produce glissandos as well? Would be great to define a play different single styles for each chord pad that produce single notes in different styles and follow ups. 👍💯 Like a real piano player does..
Someone please help. When I try to change that eq in the channel section on the left hand side of cubase 13 it automatically opens that large window and doesn't allow me to click and edit in the small window. Is this a known bug?

How do I go lower than the voicing where the voicing stops (I guess in some circumstance I may find a desire to go higher as well)? I have a synth that's seeming to be in a normal range - I don't think it's very high pitched, and when I get to the bottom voicing (after which the down arrow is grayed out) I'm finding it's still rather high for the context - I guess the synth patch has unique overtones. Do we have an option somewhere to push this down (or up) past the somewhat arbitrary limits that seem to be imposed (arbitrary in the sense that every synth preset has different harmonics and some may sound "high" or "low" relative to their position, because of overtones or some such)? I guess the graying out of further ranges is meant to be helpful...or is necessary in some way I'm not clear on. I can switch it once I move it to the piano roll on a MIDI Track, but that does make it harder to do trial and error.
I have a question. Does anyone else have an issue where unless you play very separated notes, the chords sometimes fail to play, and only single notes play? I tried changing to various synths and am still experiencing this when in HOLD FIRST mode. Maybe I don't understand the other modes. " [Select Hold First to hold the notes of the first chord. No note-off message is sent. If the chords have common notes, these are not triggered again. Select Legato to release the notes of the first chord, except for the common notes. These are held and not triggered again. Select Stop First to release the notes of the first chord including the common notes. ]" This "Hold First" option is what I had, and it's definitely not working correctly on my system because the note offs are making the notes stop one way or another, so that when I play B, only the root of that chord is played (or some other note of the chord - I didn't confirm if it's always the root but I think it is.)
It would be nice if you were able to strum the chords .. it would sound more natural... maybe you can suggest that in an update.. it would make it more useful for me ..
None of that works in anything other than the top of the range version as far as I can see. Step mode wont trigger in artist version and when you drag drop chords from the chord editor it loses any pattern association it has. UInless Im doing something wrong?
I don't know. I find it extremely confusing now. Before it was straight forward now every time you click or change something all the chords change or only one chord pad changes. I bought Cubase 13 with the last discount and I still don't get how this works now. Before I could just set the chord pads to Emin and all chords would change that doesn't happen anymore or I didn't find the right switch. Yes this has more features but for me it's extremely confusing.
i don't care if you improve the chord pads feature because I already find it much better than Scaler2 and there's no plugin that even really trys to compete with Scaler2
Scaler 2 is incredible - but this gives you an improved simpler version of Chordpads and the 30% you need vs. a lot of stuff in Scaler 2 many won't use regularly. I love Scaler 2. But, I also love HOOKPAD by HOOKTHEORY. But, Cubase's goal is to be all in the program without having to basically buy anything else ~ and parts of Chordpads ala Scaler 2 is vital to have built in the program. But, it needed this update to get more competent and useful. IMO.
