Every time that I get the "Someone replied" message, I click back here, only to hear that heavenly hymn... It is incredibly beautiful. I wish I lived in Australia just so that I could be a part of this parish. I envy you all! You all who are parishioners there are very blessed indeed. :)

I myself am a Roman Catholic, but whilst I was a nanny in England, I attended an Anglican service with the family. I deeply enjoyed the hymns. I think this service, courtesy of Yourtube, demonstrates a great bridge between the High Latin Tridentine use and the Low Anglican... wherefore, this could be called a High Anglican service. Very lovely!

Hi Joselyn. This IS an Anglican Mass. Yes it is Anglo Catholic as is my parish. I have attended Roman Catholic Masses with the introit being "I'm leaving on a jet plane..." as it was The Feast of the Ascension. There is great diversity amongst both churches. In Washington D.C. where I live, I find Episcopal Churches generally more "high church" than R.C. churches.

I sang in the choir there when I lived in melbourne in 1980. Always drop in for a visit and to light a candle when I'm back.
    It's a wonderful church .

    1. Christ Jesus Lord, who callest whom thou willest,
Turning to strength the hearts of human weakness,
Sing we the Rock-Man, name of highest honour,
    Blessed Saint Peter
    2. Fisherman lowly, called by thee his master,
Captive to love which drew his heart compelling,
Sent to proclaim thee, whom from heaven descendest,
    Bringing Salvation

This is a beautiful video. Anglicans are true Catholics, not wannabees. Although ceremonial is not the most important thing, we strive to do it well to the glory of God. I have many Roman Catholic friends who are deeply troubled by the intolerance and unwillingness to embrace Christ's Gospel of Love and Truth that they find in Rome. Some stay witnessing for Christ-and hoping for better liturgy-- in the Roman Chruch. Some find a new Catholic home in our Anglican (Episcopal USA) parish.

    7. Lord, may we serve thee with his high devotion,
Strong with the strength from thee alone deriving,
To whom All-highest, Father, Son and Spirit,
    Praise be for ever.
    Words: Bp Allen E Winter
    Music: Iste confessor

    5. Faithful, courageous, laboured he to serve thee,
Love fired his heart, gave strength to his endeavour,
Saw he the fruits of patient supplication,
    Trophies for thee, Lord
    6. Come he at last, life's toil and travail ended,
Martyr of God, in life, in death, found faithful,
Thy solemn charge his loving heart surrendered.
    To thee the giver

[3. Fearless he went, on human strength relying,
Marched close beside thee to the moonlit garden,
Yet, sleeping, praying not when danger threatened,
    Thee, Lord, denying]
    4. Seeing thee risen, penitent and grieving,
Hearing from thee the gracious words of pardon,
Gladly and humbly went he forth proclaiming
    Thy love and pardon

I sing in the high mass choir of my cathedral and we have a very nice albeit a shorter liturgy. When I have the oppostunity, I'd love to experience this very high mass.

This is basically the exact liturgy as the original Roman Mass, only in english instead of Latin. I have read that the Bishops of 40,000 High Anglicans have signed a copy of the Catholic Catachism and have sent it to the Pope asking for communion with Rome. Let this long division be over so that we may fight side by side against the evils of Liberalism, secularism, and liturgical errors. IN CHRIST WE LIVE!

Many thanks for this. There are details to quibble about but it captures the feeling of Anglo-Catholic worship especially with that hymn being sung. And yes, it's nicer than mainstream RC in many places but Pope Benedict is trying to make it more like this again.

Thanks for your encouraging words! I did post the words to the hymn as a series of comments to this video, but there was some difficulty formatting them in order. I would be happy to email them if it was more convenient. The words were specially written for St Peter's Eastern Hill by former bishop of St Arnaud, Allen E. Winter. Have a happy and holy Easter!

Re: Hymn name - the tune is 'Rouen' see below for details of words:
The text was especially composed for St Peter's Eastern Hill by former Bishop of St Arnaud, Allen E. Winter. It was used at the Patronal High Mass as a Procession hymn - but I have stitched various parts of the liturgy to it as a 'backing track'. For reasons of length I had to cut one verse out. I've included the text in previous comments (8 months ago) - see 'all comments'
    Glad you enjoy it!

I'm not sure what text is being sung here, but the hymn tune is "Rouen" and appears at number 360 in the Episcopal Hymnal 1982. Hope this helps :-)

Beautiful! I'm from melbourne and I don't really understand why so many churches in melbourne stopped facing east (including the one i go to).

Many Anglican priest have now become ordained by the Catholic Church. It get's complicated when they get into property titles and such.

Most Anglicans will agree that following apostolic tradition is not following blind. It is following a 2000 year old path of collected illumination. This makes us classical Christians.

Quite simply this is not pedestrian enough for RC's. After years as a music director at a large RC church of 6000 members it was like a breath of fresh air to be back in TEC. This kind of worship isn't practiced in the RC church. The music must be pastoral and singable by all. We were never allowed to do Latin and Rite I services would out of the question. It's nice to have a chance and the diversity that we as Episcopalians/Anglicans have. Guard it well!

Really beatiful! If you are so close in mind and heart to the tradition and liturgy of the Catholic Church, why don't go the original and become a Catholic in communion with the Holy See?
    Greetings!

    reunification with whom??,
if you mean with the roman church, i believe not many anglican people really want that, we are doing quite well on our own, thank you

The altar is marked with the sign of papal authority. It is Peter's cross and the keys of authority. The fight for unity must continue. As far as I am concerend this is no protestant church....if they protest anything, they protest against the loss of tradition with a fantastic liturgy!

The Roman Catholic Church is but one Rite within the Catholic Church which recognizes the authority of Rome. It is incorrect to say 'Roman Catholic Church'. There are 23 other Churches that recognize the Pope.

The clergy walk and act too fast. Combined with the song, it makes everything kinda creapy.
What was Rome's respond to their request for communion?

well said. i think the anglicans are far too tolerant of sin, they don't want to offend anyone or have them repent of any sin. Jesus was NOT passive about sin, and niether should His church be. im not anglican or catholic but i notice the anglican morals change w/ the times and the catholics stay steady for the most part, and if they do change, its to the better, they raise the bar rather than lower it.

As far as "problems co-existing with different positions on theology, ritual and the moral issues of the day." We do, as well as conservative Anglicans have problems co-existing with the lies that are slowly infiltrating Christianity. Why should we co-exist with error? The beauty of being a Christian is that we are not always politically correct with the "morality" of present times. Politics change, the truths of Christ remain unchanged, unflexible, and uncompromising.
