    Love this game! My solution for the door tactic is simply to let players and monsters do a push roleoff based on strength and then be able to push characters away and pile into the room.

    Love it! I see what you mean about using printable sticky sheets! Much easier! Going to adopt that idea :D My solution for the door jam combat is to use the Warhammer Quest method of not setting up the models until the heroes are in the room. Worked wonders in the campaign we started before the world went weird.

    May interest to know that there is a mod for Tabletop Simulator on Steam that recreates Advanced Heroquest. A much cheaper and easier to obtain option for those unable to get hold of the real thing or easily recreate it.

    HeroQuest was pretty damn cool. None of my buddies would get into D&D but they would play HeroQuest. My mom threw mine away when we moved to another state and it broke my heart. I had hand painted all of the figures too. Great video btw.

    Great video! I was also thinking of printing out my own dungeon tiles but then your video reminded me that... frustrating programs either don't have those options anymore or they keep changing them or they don't work properly even if they do have them. It used to be so easy when those settings were in the printer options. It's amazing that these companies have actually made their programs harder to use than easier.

    I never realized that GW expected players to have Hero Quest to play this, but that makes a lot of sense. A friend had AHQ when we were in school and we struggled with only having Skaven minis. Having HQ would have made it a lot more fun!

      @captcorajus  4 роки тому

      I didn't mean to imply it didn't come with any. It came with Skavan, some adventurers and henchemen. But to play the adventures included you had to go out and buy a lot more minis, or at least have the heroquest set.
      Whereas the original Heroquest came with everything you needed to play in the box. This upset quite a few people back in the day.

    The statement about it assuming that the players already own HeroQuest is patently false:
    "If you own a copy of MB's Heroquest game, the following rules tell you how to use the Heroquest components in Advanced Heroquest. These rules are optional, and all players must agree the rules will be used before the game starts." rulebook page 45
    Pertinent words being "if" and "optional"

    • @captcorajus
      @captcorajus  4 роки тому +1

      No sorry. The game comes with only SKAVEN and the heroes minitures.
      No orcs, no mummies, no skeletons. Sorry brother, but if you did't already own hero quest, you must then purchase a BUNCH of miniatures to make full use of the game.

    • @azerog4134
      @azerog4134 4 роки тому

      @@captcorajus That point is technically correct, as with several games at the time you (Bloodbowl, Space Hulk) you were expected to use identical models with different colour bases to distinguish between say a Skaven Sentry or Plague Monk or Sorceror - but you wouldn't get those from HeroQuest. Even the HeroQuest section itself only went so far as saying you could add a maze level to dungeon using the HeroQuest board and monsters - and even the latter was an option, with the default being to use the standard (all skaven) wandering monster chart. At no point did the core campaign ever require the player to have access to HeroQuest. Also note that although the monster section did include the monsters that were in HeroQuest it didn't use HeroQuest models for them, but the regular GW metals - and the 'Alternative Monsters' section directed players to check out Citadel Miniatures and White Dwarf magazine no suggestion of tracking down a copy of HeroQuest.

    • @captcorajus
      @captcorajus  4 роки тому +1

      That fact that the game did not come with the miniatures needed to play the game was one of the key elements of its failure, despite it being a pretty great game. Certainly GW's expectation was that the purchaser would get miniatures elsewhere, and logically, where else would someone purchasing ADVANCED Heroquest get their miniatures than from Heroquest?? :)

    • @jamesmhebert
      @jamesmhebert 3 роки тому

      Also, the fact that statement was INSIDE the box meant that buyers couldn’t know they needed the original game before they bought it. They could only discover that news after the fact, and after wading through 44 pages of material.
