I Love the sound of the frogs at night. Used to be a real old 1920's Gas Pump with the Glass top like the one at Bodie & it worked that showed the gas up at Virginia Lakes Lodge

I would have liked to see that. Many years ago before my Father passed away, Dad took a picture of an old pump at an old country store. Chevron Oil put the photo on their calendar because it was a Chevron pump. He was good with a camera.

Those old payphones, with a phone book to boot, are so rare to see now. If it actually worked... WOW.🎊 That scenery is ABSOLUTELY stunning, so mesmerizing...🏞 Thank you, Doug and Kellie for allowing us to hitch a ride. Stopping in towns along the way, introducing some residents who reside right where they want to be, is lovely to see.👏🤗 That General Store is awesome. ☺️ *** As always, I come away from one of your videos, having picked up interesting tidbits of information, Doug.🤓👏👏 I'm so happy your camping has been delightful, and that you're stopping along the way to enjoy the lakes, etc.
Extra Info... My daughter, and three other, kindred spirits, are flying out to OR, tomorrow morn. Eventually, they will be heading to northeast OR, from Portland, to visit some "intertwined" relatives. That will give them a chance to appreciate the beauty of the state.🛣🚘

Hi Rhonda! Your review is mesmerizing as well! I have spent some time in Eastern Oregon as well, in the Halfway, OR area. Can't wait to go farther north as my friend Tom lives up there in Oregon. I thought you would like that area, it is so little visited, underrated, and of course, completely underpopulated. At your urging I will continue to disburse all kinds of odd tidbits of information: besides, you never know when it might come in handy! Hmm, we might be going hiking in the Sierra next by a fantastical and stupendously gorgeous alpine lake....

@@CalNeva Thank you so much. I really appreciate the facts and tips you give us. You know so much. Since I'm from New England, the topography, vegetation, and "wildlife" are not always identical. Plus, I just find the info so interesting... That sounds exciting. Wherever you take us, I know it will be a treat, Doug.

@@rhondaz356 I like most all of the people in New England, you are a good example of that. The forests, the Indian trails, the history, the little towns, the old stainless steel diners...really pretty fall colors you have there (we just have the golden Aspen). It's always fun to see an old pay phone 😂 The lake looked beautiful 😊 I always enjoy driving through Modoc County 😊 Thanks for the stop at the cemetery. In the Smokies, there are so many children that passed back in the 1800s and early 1900s 😢

Bring back memories of my old stoppin grounds. My dad worked for the citizens utilities phone company in Alturas. He would take care of the phones in Cedarville and surrounding areas. The rock formation is called bear sniffing the rock.

What a nice trip this was Brother Doug, it's been so long since I've been to the Modoc country that I have forgotten a lot about the area. The Warner Mtns don't look anything like I remember, I think I was mixing them up with another mtn range. That rock formation sure is interesting , kinda looks like a bear sniffing a picnic table. But thats just me probably. I'm kinda weird like that! Lol. Thanks for a great trip and memory refresher, it was definitely fun! 🇺🇸

I am laughing my butt off! ..."Kinda looks like a bear sniffing a picnic table"! That same rock formation caught my eye immediately too. I knew you were going to like our trip...a pleasant change from the desert and bringing back memories for you. I was excited to refresh your memory and show you around. We really liked Cedarville Dick, and the whole region is kind of our speed....slow and quiet (don't tell anyone). Kellie and I thought we could grow a good garden there, growing plenty of our own food, and appreciating the remoteness and nearby natural beauty. Better bring a sweater, because come Thursday we are going back up into the Sierra; above 10,000 feet. We got a rain shower in Hawthorne; cooled it down some but mostly made it muggy. I love summer!

I lived in Alturas, modoc county. Cedarville held the county fair. We would do a 3 day pack/camp on horseback. trip in the Warner mountains. There is a rock formation we called the bear sniffing the rock. My dad is buried in Alturas. He worked for the citizens utilities phone company in Alturas. He would take care of the phones in Cedarville and surrounding areas. So many memories.
