They should put these clips together and release "8 years and a half in the life of Metallica"
Rikied yeah it years of recent Metallica boredom!!
Rikied And remeber they also made a 3D movie and a tour with Lou Reed, and a tour where fans decided the songs...
These guys are always trying to perfect their music in the studio, they play it over and over again to fix what doesn't sound right, that's absolute dedication.
1:32 Hetfield is in fact a robot, just waiting to play riffs xD
Hardwired to self riffstruct
@Andrey Koschey detroit become human reference, i like it
He's doing his best to not kill that little Danish twat. James Hetfield is the strongest man in the world, being sober for years while constantly being pushed and antagonized by that little Napoleon.
Long live machine !!
@@YearsOVDecay1 its an original comment...
It's stuff like this that proves that Lars may not be the best drummer in the world, but he is the best drummer AND arranger fit for Metallica. Take Lars out of the equation and it wouldn't be "Metallica" anymore.
NorwayBall you are so wrong in so many ways I can't even tell you
You have to be kidding me dude.... You think cliff contributed more than lars did.... Look at literally 95% of Metallica's songs, he is credited for making the songs, along with James. Those 2 write pretty much everything. You have no idea what you're talking about mate. If you think Metallica stopped being 'Metallica' after Cliff was gone then your obviously on some fucked up shit. Did you ever see how well Jason performed with the band? 1989 in Seattle? The black album... dude stop criticizing a band for which you have no idea about anything to. Learn your facts before making judgments mate
Lars is a master at arranging and coming up with ideas and fills that make the songs more catchy and interesting, but Cliff added the epic-ness of a classical music composer - he had both a great feel for song dynamics and a great knowledge of music theory.
hinjurock Is he credited with writing the earlier songs? No. You can't make claims that he made them epic if he wasn't even credited with writing the song. Yes he was the only one who actually had studied music, but that doesn't mean he made the songs epic. Apart from the 3 songs that were focused on bass, he only really helped with 7-8 other songs. And in any case you can't just go saying 'he added the epic-ness' because you weren't their when they wrote it so you have no idea what he contributed to the songs. If he is not credited with writing the songs, then he has pretty much little to zero input for that song
NinjoOnline Cliff was credited as co-writing 6 songs on Ride The Lightning and 3 on Master Of Puppets, and I'm sure he helped with arranging others. The band has said in numerous interviews that his musical knowledge and vision were a big influence on shaping their sound, especially on RTL and MOP.
James: Main songwriter.Comes up with riffs, lyrics, melodies, ideas etc. to start the song.
Lars: Main songwriter.Does not always comes up with ideas but uses James' ideas to create a better one.He is the song arranger. He has vision what works or not, maybe changing ideas to make it more workable.
Rob: Vision for a fan.Gives advices on riffs. He sometimes comes up with riffs too.More of session guy.
Kirk: Does solos, discusses song direction, adds more sense to it.Writes and judges riffs too.
I wish this making of vídeos, could last one hour or more, each one.
Wes Andrade yeah and show them recording the entire song lol... like every part.
TheTonyMusicShow Exactlyyy
It was Lego assembly with Bob Rock, Bob was perfectionist, but is it really with Fidelman? I'm not sure.
ALL bands do it that way, Metallica are no different
That's a MASSIVE generalisation and simply not true. There's a fair few bands who do piece stuff together, usually the weaker element of a group is the one who needs the 'lego assembly' (great name!) process but its ridiculous to claim that ALL bands do that.
Is Metallica the most documented band of all time? They've filmed EVERYTHING for 35 years!
And I'm very glad they did
Not everything
AND THEY ALWAYS PUT THE HELL VIDEOS
🇲🇽ROBERTO TRUJILLO DEBE SER DEPORTADO A MÉXICO🇲🇽
Its always nice to see James use the EET FUK explorer
and some people want Lars out of the band, when he is one of the hardest working member of Metallica.
Da_ Filthy Casual yeah people underestimate him a lot.
also he is the one that pretty much created the band so you can't kick a man out of his own band lol
Thay are just jealous because Lars don't have great skills but play in bigest bend hahah. :D
Exactly, people also don't understand that you don't have to be the best at a particular instrument to make good music. AC/DC has a lot of basic drum patterns in their songs, but does that mean their drummer sucks. Lars is still a professional drummer and musician whether people like it or not. When the people criticizing come out with grammy winning songs and are in a rock band, let me know.
does that mean their drummer sucks?*
I never would of thought lars did this much on this album.. He's actually a great songwriter, without him, this record easily wouldn't be as good as it is. To me at least.
Yeah, same here. Didn't know Lars was so into songwriting.
without him, Metallica wouldn't be as good as it is
him and james have always been the primary songwriters ince the beginning with help from cliff on the first three and a bit of mustaine then from justice onwards they were primary apart from a few songs here and there
Lars has co-written 99% of Metallica's music with James.
a7xknot 1 would have*
Waiting for Spit Out The Bone
We all do,i think they save the best for last ;-)
karsten y... your imo sucks
SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT
Their best one since the And justice album for sure.
Death Magnetic was pretty awesome...
This seems to be the most underrated song on the album.
Who said that? Why is it underrated?
Dr. Phibes in Red just my opinion. I'm seeing the song consistently rank lowly in polls, and I'm just paying attention to what people are saying. And I find the song to be one of the better ones on the album.
TrevRockOne : Fuck the polls. Pay attention to the music and make up your own mind. I thing it's a much better song than "ManUnkind", but then again, that's just what I think. It's about what you feel, not some "others". If you like the song, it's great and "nothing else matters"... ;-)
ManUNkind after some listenings turns out great, i still can't get behing Am I Savage... its been hard...
The Reaper : It is hard. It's "MunUNkind", "Here comes Revenge" and "Am I Savage" I am struggling with. Maybe I have to listen to them some more. But it's not easy, when the other songs are so much better.
"OK, we're done writing the song. Go get Kirk from his storage facility and wheel him in here."
terracottapie 😂
Watching all the "making of" videos gives me the impression that kirk only comes to record some solos, licks, intros and outros then goes home.
Yeah because those things are the lead guitarists job. It's his position in the band... duh.
@MMM: So what is he doing, when he's not playing the solo on stage? Going for a piss? No, he plays rhythm guitar with Hetfield. So being in the studio, creating or just practicing won't be too bad. At least he should try to support his bandmates while they're arranging the songs and not just come in and fart a few solos and then drive home. He's not just "the lead guitarist", he's a member of the band.
Exactly... saying "that's his role" means you don't know exactly know what happens in a band... solo guitars don't play only the SOLO parts. That's what I meant... -_-
I see you're new to Metallica. James and Lars have been recording the albums this way since Kill 'Em All. Maybe Kirk doesn't want to record rhythm. Either way it's none of your business and you're an idiot.
Why are you harassing me? Did I really say anything to make you act that rude? Really didn't get it...
Anyway... what I meant is that we have awesome songs that were written WITH kirk. With him as an active part into the composition. "The shortest straw" and "creeping death" are awesome examples...
Anyway... have a nice week.
Lars is the brains, James is the talent and Rob is just like us, a fan and can give an outside view.
And Kirk is the surfer guy.
Scott Brown despite the hates he gets, Lars will always be the Architect of Metallica.
Lars is Pollack the Funnel arranger guy, remember that. See how many get that reference.
Scott Brown kirk where are you
Sermmm Kernnndd Orfffff Mernnsstteerrrrr!
I'm so jealous of Rob's Bass collection!!! Especially his own Warwick line!!! Bad Ass!!
is james doing the mannequin challenge at 1:32?
André Montenegro
cool
André Montenegro
i know
André Montenegro
alright!
Cam Par Bahahaha, clicked on your time marker and immediately busted up laughing seeing James.
I thought wtf is he doing but he looks like he's listening to something in his ear monitors. That or having an out of body experience.
I love how Metallica work as a team to write riffs. Lars is a drummer and is telling Robert how to finish the bass line. That's how great songs are made.
5:12 *EET FUK*
You know this guy chris hansen catched?
4:46 EET FUK and MOREBEER
2:43 Rob is coming from the toilet with his bass
You never know when inspiration may strike
I'm loving these making of, videos. Brings back the fun of watching Year and a half on a daily basis when I was young. 😊
Kirk:*plays pentatonics in a single octave*
Lars: A W E S O M E
I think he's talking about Kirk playing the bend while releasing it, creating some dissonance while descending.
I mean, it's a well known trick, but still pretty cool.
says the guy who is NOT in a band anyone goes to see.................
I could watch these videos all fucking day! Very cool to see what goes on behind the scenes in the making of a Metallica album! I have been a fan since day one when Kill em All hit the scene and Hardwired is one of my top 3 favorite albums from you guys! Cant wait to see you in the NYC area!!
5:53 this is one of the coolest guitars I've ever seen
Dude, what does he put on her? Tape maybe?
U know, on the strings near head
@@thrashmetman1294 I think he was hearing some unwanted ringing when he played it so he "muted" them I guess. I'm not sure
@@0ussama01 Yes, i hear something same too, when i'm playing. That why i wanna know, what does he put. At least i have some masking tape, but they have some kind of pipe sealer.
I'm sorry, if you can't understand me well, it is hard to talking in english when you born and live ij Russia %)
Raining blood? 1:30
Arnold Biggins
yea thought so too since 1:24
Seriously? Have you heard song called Hardwired before?
Lol that's Hardwired....
*To self destruct*

One interesting fact, when we see James doing vocals in the vocal booth with Greg in the studio itself, it looks like that they tend to do vocals at night, idk why, just because the lights in the studio are always off when they do vocals and vocal booth is dark always so.. idk just a thing I noticed
It might just be a mood thing. Maybe James likes it darker for some reason?
Motsenbopper probably, I assume that we won't know why.. Maybe when we'll see the rest of the making of HTSD, who knows..
Singers (as well as some guitarists, drummers, etc) often like to play and record in a dimly-lit space for ambiance and mood - I know that I do. Harsh bright office type lights really kill the vibe.
To summon evil ghostly deities of course
My friend told me singers prefer to sing later because their voices would have warmed up so less straining for them.
Seeing James playing the EET FUK guitar again brings me back to when I saw them back in high school around '88 - '89. That ax should be in the R&R Hall of Fame. Also, weird to see James playing an old school Gibson LP with a Bigsby. Only seen him with ESP LPs. Kirk plays a Gibson LP a lot on Sanitarium live.
8:03 - James making us laugh yet again. Love this song. Great behind the scenes guys!
I wish these were longer, like an hour +
Thank you for everything, Metallica!
It's super cool seeing how songs come together! I would buy a DVD set to see even more!
I love this 'In the studio' stuff. Many thanks MetallicaTV. You rock! 🤘🎸🔊🤘🎸🔊🤘🎸🔊
Working title Lima... Perú!!!
arriba el peru carajooooooo (aunque creo que no es por lima peru el working title :( )
Al parecer es pq el riff fue tocado mientras probaban sonido en Lima el 2014...
Victor Vilches que éxito!
James putting on his Zen face when Lars is conducting is priceless.
Marz Muzaic perfect comment 😂😂
I check YT like 10 times a day hoping another song is added. Was looking forward to this one most thanks!
that song is amazing, and the lyrics.. really good! welcome back metallica!
This might be my second favorite song off the new record!
I wish they released a"making of" for every one of their songs
they have been releasing them slowly.. we probably will get them all
thank-you Metallica for posting these vids.. Your fans love you period!
thank you Metallica for your music , it my addiction of all days , when to see you in lollapallooza argentina , killer show!
these videos are dope
LOL at some of the people in the comments who are surprised by how much Lars is involved in the songwriting. If you were true Metallica fans, you would know that it has always been James and Lars's collaboration since the beginning that is Metallica.
Lennon/McCartney
Page/Plant
Hetfield/Ulrich
"true fan" is such an elitist statement to use when you enter a discussion on a band. I am a huge KISS fan and have been since the 70s but I know very little about the band and what they did back in the 70/80s. I bought all the albums and played them all the time and even played in a tribute band but I didn't know much about them or any bands I loved. The same with Metallica. I just don't care that much about what goes on behind the scene. Most fans aren't die hards you know. Look at KISS set list. It has been almost the same for decades. That's because 80% of the audience are regular fans or even not fans but want to see the show. With Metallica the number is probably lower but my guess is 50% of the audience is not very into the band but like Enter Sandman and some hits while maybe 20% are die hard fans. When bands like this plays at festivals on tour the numbers are even lower.
Cookie Monster - Well, to be fair, you are talking about KISS... They aren’t exactly making Master of Puppets.
love the harmonies on the verses
more bands should do videos like these, it's pretty cool to see them work and put shit together
Epic song. Awesome riffs.
I flipped my pick at the end~James Hetfield
love you metallica
Just got into playing rhytm guitar and doing vocals. Insanely challenging! James nailed his duties on this album.
one of the coolest song from the album
6:51 We've got Bobby Mcferrin at the studio
Love the chorus on this one!!
One of my favorite songs off the new album. Have been waiting for this video. Lol
1:27 Metallica plays slayer
I love this song! I love seeing how these songs came together :]
The vocals on this song man, when he says confusion so raw
LIMA! mi ciudad, la capital de Perú, que el demo haya llevado el nombre de mi ciudad es algo que no me lo esperaba, espero que regresen a nuestra ciudad con Hardwired lo estuve escuchando hace poco y suena de ptmr
Brasil loves Metallica!
This song grows on you!
One of my favorites off the album
5:11 Did not expect to see that guitar! I'm glad it's still being used and not just in storage
Favorite song off the album
Best riff of the album!
Awesome. Long Live Metallica.
3:34 Pause and enjoy.
The second best song on the second CD.
Thank you guys. These videos are fukin great!
I can't wait to drink beer watch these videos before re-listening to the songs when all the making-of videos are released.
Waiting for the making of Halo On Fire!
"I twirled my pick at the end"😂😂😂😂 fucking james lmao
Love this track! One of the riffs reminds me of, "Rise, Fall, Down, Rise Again!"
I' love see those making of videos, and i waiting some thing about spit ou the bone live, jesus, i want see this masterpiece live
3:29 had me dying
hey you guys didn't include the part where you put the subliminal satanic messages in
Brett Wodon what do you mean?
Wait, what?
wtf?
PooplexCanal it's a joke y'all. There's people who think people put satanic subliminal messages in metal and things that will summon demons. Obviously it's a bunch of horse shit.
Brett Wodon : Had a youth pastor that tried to tell me that one time and that he had proof. lol wtf
THIS VIDEO IS GOLDDD !!! :D
Love this song !
kirk doesnt seem to have been too involved with this album?
Has he been before? Also, he lost his phone with all his riffs for the album right before so maybe he was bummed out. Idk.
Metallica yeeeeaaaaaaaa metal
I can´t wait to hear this song playing live
this song gives me chills
3:28 please someone make the gif !
i love hearing Lars explain sounds by actually making them
He's not a musician so he's limited to mouth noises.
love the topic of this song
that bass at the beggining was just awesome!°°
I really like what Robert is playing around 1:30 but I can recreate it
No cabe duda que Lars es el cerebro y motor de Metallica. Sin él no hay Metallica. Lo quieran o no.
Honestly one of my top 3 Metallica songs
hell yea. thank you Tallica
Since the song came out I wondered what I heard at the very end, now I know lars flipped his stick and James twiddled his pick lol.
Lars is a freakin genius. Why isn’t he producing metal albums.
Nice to see Robert so involved
Always nice to see rob getting involved
This must have been a Confusing time for them, because there was all this Confusion in the room.
Deryl Jullian *sigh*
Deryl Jullian They were really confused. That Confusion lead to them using an Am I Evil riff.
That new chrome explorer is rad
awesome song i love it
i love this song
You should call this song "Micro Managing Rob".
Bravo!
Rob is a great addition to the band. They really are getting their moneys worth out of him.
its my favorite song of the album
you are the best ever
7:31 that was fun let's do it again lol
Is that the line from Rico of Just Cause game? :P
