I don't think people realize how much of a rare treat it is to see a band of this magnitude allowing the creative process to be seen like this. Most musicians are really protective and private during this process. It's awesome stuff!
True... I think it is because they're having so much fun that they give 0 f*cks about everything else
devin barnum I think one of the reasons why they can/want to published videos is the fact that they have nothing to hide while making these songs. I mean James doesn’t use autotune/pitch correction and the instruments are played by human not a computer. Which are pretty common things to do these days in the music business.
Nowadays most of the singers use pitch corrections, but even if James uses it it's so subtle you wouldn't recognize the difference
One of the few other vand that kind of do this is maybe mastodon
@@rodrigofernandez3206 I think it's more rumourcontrol. The fact that they show this mans they want the world to see, you don't do that when you don't care.
"This shit's hard to play, dude."
"Just... Could you play perfectly? Then we could go home."
*[beat]*
"What're we gonna do for the rest of the weekend?"
*[beat]*
"Good point."
"Good point."
I love the way Lars puts so much effort into the simplest of rhythms lol.
Those faces.
He labors big time on everything, BUT, he pulls it off in the end and we wouldn't have "metal" without him. Gotta love that little garden gnome.
He always sounds sloppy
6:35 that little moment between James and the other guy warms my heart.
BATTIS94 i thought i was the only one who replayed it several times
went back to see it after your comment, awesome moment
Thank you,...next time run
Shallex yep
They're people too you know, they say "Thank you" as you and I. They're Metal Gods, but also humans.
This song is underrated, and i dont know why. Its Metallica meets Sabbath riff style, its groovy, has an awesome vocal by James.
Cant wait to see all of the new songs live, please make it happen Metallica!!
I know! My honest reaction my first listen was that this song may have some of the sexiest Metallica riffs since ...Justice.
Its not. I fuc**n love it!!!!
Just the title is corny but I love the riffs
8:36 i always confuse that "faith" tattoo in his right arm with the Ford logo.
metalforever12345 LOL I always thought it was a Ford tattoo until I saw this comment
It's on purpose, I guess you all know that tho.
Pretty sure his rat rod is like a '32 Ford so would make sense.
Faith, the same that a brand, just to make money
7:10 James goes full Tom Morello
*buckethead
Tom morello is more like the guitar on the neck and digitech whammy till death
9:16 No, please never stop doing the "A's"
Can't wait for "Making Of Spit Out The Bone"
hell yea :D
Me three
...
Still waiting...
Pugen I cant wait for not making of spit out the bone
0:58 When you jam with your friends, and the guitarist is high as shit...
HAHAHHAHAHA
He looks funny when he stopped playing too.
that was good hahahahahaha
Four years in, I'm starting to realize how good this album really is. One of their best and definetely better than death magnetic
I don't think its better but its definietly equal or just short of it
Death Magnetic is their best album on the XXI century
One of the best songs on the album. Everyone can thrash, speed and hammer along all day. But this super-slick, ultra-heavy groove stuff ... can't fake that. Separates the men from the boys!
So you are a big fan of the Loads and songs such as Ronnie and Poor Old Twisted Me?
Well, this is one of the best songs IF you are a big fan of the Load/Reload songs, because this sounds like it fell right off those albums. This songs isn't terrible to me, but it sounds out of place on this album.
Not necessarily those, but I'm a fan of songs such as 2x4 , Devil's Dance or Fixxxer, which is seriously grooving, big balls, adult male metal.
It fits the album perfectly and not "out of place" at all. The album would be worse without it.
Jimmy Hellfire a lot more people are warming up to Load and ReLoad lately.
6:35 They are all so polite, I love them so much
I'm really liking these videos. Cool to see how they developed each idea.
Rob is really cementing himself as one of the most solid 4th members in band history. Not taking shit away from the CB and JN. Loving Rob
If you play it perfectly, we can go home. "Yeah, but what are we going to do for the rest of the weekend?" Good point. LMAO
I love Metallica. They were my first concert in Indianapolis justice for all 88/89 or around late 80's. I was 15 yrs old been loving them for 30 yrs. Going to another Metallica concert is on my bucket list. Come to Muncie Indiana. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Melissa Malone 🤘❤
🎶ohhhhh melissa🎵king diamond.
Wow! I never thought I'd see another Muncie resident besides my friends on a UA-cam video, much less one of my favorite band.
My first Metallica concert too. They were with Queensryche.
I was about 15 also!
Wak Job It still is the best concert I have ever been to. It was outside at Deer creek
Not to sound corny or anything, but you guys should be really proud of the work you put in. This new shit is GREAT!!!
I understand why Hetfield can't use that voice constantly throughout a two hour live show night after night; but one thing I love about these making of mini docs is seeing him recording the vocals - I know he's never really seen himself as a singer but, fuck, the man has one almighty growl in him.
9:24 I didn't know if James was aware of his overenunciating until now.
He's been doing the "a" since the Justice album
@@davidsalgado5376 Oh yeah ? I thought it started with the Black Album
@@Owen_plays_music1049 I believe so
Metallica is Back!!!
If you say so
-T-X-M- where have they been?
ANDREW Tsosie excluding Kirk
ANDREW Tsosie and a big welcome back.the album is fantastic, its awesome from arguably the 'God's of metal' hell yeah !!!!! :)
6:35 that fuckin' ''thank you'', gotta love when legends stay humble, long live the Het!
I know James has had a lot of ups and downs with his vocals BUT MAN he STILL sounds great. Honestly best he has ever sounded IMO. Great mix of singing, soft, hard, growls, and screaming.
Best since long time, but not ever. I'm not that kind of old school hardcore fan at all, tbh I do prefer James nowadays voice, but early 90s he was powerful as hell like Seattle 89 or Mexico City 93 was his voice prime imho
The 89 Seattle vocals do sound really good. I think though he is more dynamic now than ever which is also why I prefer his vocals now. To each their own.
His old school vocals are so damn classic.. But I do agree, he is far more dynamic and has much more control now a days. Very impressive after all these years!
Really under appreciated track. The vocal lines and main riff are killer
I love to watch these studio bits. thanks guys for posting :)
I reckon this is the best song on the album. Not sure if many would agree but i cant get enough of it!
Mark Yes Yes yes I'm not alone
One of the best songs I've heard this year. You can thank the stellar vocal....but, but, Lars has drawn from his old school knowledge and iced the fucking cake!
for me its ManUNkind and Dream No More
Since it's release I have heard this one non-stop. Conquered me for good.
it's one of my favorite songs by Metallica.
I had to listen to it several times, and this song is surprisingly complex.
Such a fantastic song.
This song is so beautiful along with every other one of the album and every other one of creation
Man I love this song. So cool to see how it was made, and how much it was developed.
4:16 *We need an A-Capella album version.*
I love these fly-on-the-wall videos where we get to see songs evolve beginning to completion.
Love this song
They found their song-writing dynamic again...good to see them do what worked so well for the first 5 albums. Hardwired is a fucking great album
jeff peake Uninspired, as if.
jeff peake uninspired? That's not true.
Songs like Dream No More cannot be uninspired
It does feel uninspired, I agree. I wont say its bad, but it lacks that cutting edge that they had in their first four albums. There isnt one threatening riff, one riff that takes you to the edge. Even spit out the bone which is their most "metal" song in this album sounds soft and round. Again, Im not saying its bad, its just missing its originality, its spirit.
I ignored this album, death magnetic as well. I just discovered how amazing both albums are recently after 72 seasons came out. These doctors of metal are true masters of their craft. Thank you Metallica.
Lol for some reason this made me remember the documentary of the black album when James voice was fucked up and Lars wanted him to sing and James was like "If your arm fell off I wouldnt ask you to play drums" I thought that was hilarious
Can't wait for making of Spit Out The Bone
YES,it's basically a masterpiece in the thrash metal realm
I can't wait for Atlas ;-)
I sincerely wish these videos were longer.
I think this song is one of the best. This album rocks. Metallica still got it
Can't wait for the making of Spit Out the Bone!
no.
dekapitatorr no what!?
I think this is an underrated song on the album! very sabbathy! the intro is awesome and groove kicks ass
fun fact: the only song on the album on which not only Lars and James got writing credits. Rob is credited too.
I love how robert is just sitting there nodding his head and just absorbing while lars and james talk
laughed hard to "manunkindAhh"
"thats what all my kids make fun of" LOL
*Hello there! I wanna share my opinion on this specific song:*
When I first heard 'ManUNkind' I wasn't that sure if this song was good enough for my liking.
In other words, this was the most challenging song on the entire album. I wasn't that satisfied with it.
But then I decided to give that song more than one try. And guess what? Now i'm in love with it! This song (for me) has the vibes of 'Load/Reload' and some touch of the 'Black Album' vibe.
So, Metallica fans, please, give the album more than one shot. After all, we haven't waited 8 years for nothing. This album is the real deal. This is actually the first album I have ever pre-ordered. Got the CD and a digital copy from Google Play Music.
This album is played non-stop on my PC and my phone when i'm outside. Thank you, Metallica! Awesome record.
#AlbumOfTheYear #HardwiredToSelfDestruct \m/
Love these making of and behind the scenes videos guys. Gives a great insight into a great band. Keep it heavy guys 🤘. Might even do a how to do a making of life hack video.
Love the behind the scenes. Keep up the good work. Love the new album.
I've never been so happy as with this absolutely amazing album. First, each of the guys are at a really centered place within themselves and with each other. This reflects in the making of this album. One of the best Metallica albums written. Extremely well produced. Thank you all for your dedication to your craft. i've been a follower since the beginning and will be with you till the end. Thank you for helping me get through life. bro.Mark
Greatest band of all time and beyond.
Haider Ali
I'm impressed how James managed to go back to sounding like he did in the 80's with that raspy voice. Love it.
This one and Murder One are two of my fav songs on Hardwired. Thanks for this vídeos! I wish they were more detailed.
One of my favorite intros from y’all. Badass song!! I dig it 🤘
This was the one that took the most time for me to say "Huh, wow, this is actually pretty good!" James was right when saying it's not just a simple beat, it's an odd beat that will make you think. Because it's not something Metallica, and more specifically Lars, has done before!
Sweet ! Thanks for posting this !!!!
Didn't want this video to end. I want like 30-45 min long vids of each song's making.
What a treat! They all seem like such nice guys these days. I remember watching that making of the Black Album back in the day and, wow, they have grown up. Haha. Would love to see a video on the making of the ManUnkind video. That damn thing has me researching Norwegian Black Metal history. Ugh.
lars carrying the band as usual
I agree mate, he has the vision. But, look the tools he that he has at his disposal.
Yeah totally! I mean, he writes all the riffs while playing the guitar too! Oh wait...
yep
Cold Shower No one spells James like that
Yes, but it’s sad that Lars knows nothing except his straight bass drum👆😨
Amazing song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man i would love to hear the demo from this album
Kickass album, and these videos make me appreciate the songs even more!
I feel so bad for Kirk losing all of his riff ideas on his phone.
kirk claims he had a ipad full of like 200 song idea for the new album that he lost, it was all gone. he ended up not writing anything except a couple of his solos, and even those are mostly molded by Lars
I'm sure I saw an interview with James where he appeared to say that he wasn't convinced about this phone loss business.
Millions of fans around the world? We can find that phone!
Dont forget the couch cushions.
Just an excuse not to work.
He's a millionaire and professional and didn't set up an automatic cloud backup which even free apps offer? Not gonna buy that
Very cool. Thanks for the inside perspective🤘
Please guys play ManUNKindaaahhh Live! My favorite of the new album so far, the drums are so "Rush" like, vocal melodies very smart, powerful riffs and excellent guitar solo from Mr. Hammett!
i love this song .. legendary riffs .. metallica still kicking asses
You guys should make a 1 hour video about Spit Out the Bone one....just saying....i would watch all of it...
ALL IN ALL...GREAT ALBUM !!
The best song of Hardwired.
Steven Rangel lmao what
His opinion
*****
yeah no shit, I was just surprised I've not seen anyone who shares it.
+Alexander Ramos Quite the music critique are we? Steven likes the song, I like the song, Metallica obviously likes the song(or otherwise it wouldn't have made it on the album), yet you know better right? It's you with the shit taste and lack of manners, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, who are you to say otherwise?
The amount of money in each of these shots hahaha, but I love these BTS videos, so awesome you guys are doing this.
It's very interesting to watch the work, thought, trial and error It can take to create a song. It must be even more difficult to decide on the exact sound and vocals to use which you personally like and what will end up on the album and hope fans will like it.
It was woth the job. For me its the best song of album. It makes me to listen Metallica again after few years!
Let's be honest : we ALL are impatiently waiting for the making of Spit Out The Bone , the Master(piece) of Puppets track of the album !!!
And Metallica TV keep the suspense entire so the expectation worth it like never 😉🙂🤘😎🤘🎸
my phone is in the red.
I will watch later.
Thank you.
Did you watch it later
Excited to hear this played live..
I love the song and an ingenious concept of manUnkind. Best song ever. LOVE AND RESPECT METALLICA!!!

*spits on floor*
*wipes away with sock*
I don't even know why I'm subscribed to these dudes anymore.
Can't wait to see "Spit Out The Bone"! Holy shit, that song is amazing and this one has one of the best riffs James has ever come up with!
this song seems to get a lot of hate, but it's one of my favorites on the album!
The video of this song reminded me Trivium's video for Blind Leading The Blind.
Yes!!!!! Damn, good to know that I'm not crazy ahahahaha
Fabian Cabau Lol yeah. Both great songs from great albums
Spit Out The Bone is like a Vengeance Falls song, fits the album art for Vengeance Falls too. This song reminds me a lot of Volbeat.
Liam Connors The album art of Vengeance Falls makes me think of Pacific Rim
This is one of my favourite songs on the album it's different but it's awesome too!
4:40 key Lars moment
Love these BTS/BTM. Not many artists and bands get to show how their music comes together. To see a band like Metallica sit around bounce off ideas, play riffs, beats, etc. is amazing. And the process, showing they not just throwing any shit together. They truly wanna make a worthy sound and be proud of it.
Every aspiring singer is gonna be on Vocalzone and Halls now.
yeah, i love this song 💪✌
I wish for the next album they would leave HQ and go back to sweet silence and put flemming back at the controls and try to get that puppets vibe going again. I love this album but would also be cool to see them go back to their roots for just one more album. Then after that HQ and gregg are fine
maybe no food budget either so they have to eat at flemmings house everynight again too
Jed Silvertooth they might not make another album
Scott Brown yea i know but we have to hope. i also found out the original sweet silence they recorded lightning and puppets in was tore down in 2009 to build apartment's. they built a new one. i think those old studios where albums like that are made should be considered historical landmarks and be preserved. im afraid one on one the studio from the black album and everyone knows from year and a half in the life of will be next to be destroyed. the last time i heard it was a yoga place or something and not in too great of shape. i guess with most people recording in home studios and no budgets to record with anymore all the great studios will face this fate.
0:54 it’s crazy to think that that tiny little amp head in the back right corner made the entire sound of master of puppets
Where can i find it
@@olokinhogameplaysff4058 the thing that will get u closest to the sound is the Mk IV but it’s slightly more expensive. However if u have the money then go for it. They used a Marshall cabinet too. Look up on UA-cam Mesa boogie mk IV Metallica tone. It sounds like the record. They used it for master of puppets, justice, and black album
Love this song
8:08 Does James do this to loosen up his voice/vocal cords? I noticed he did the same thing in the Making Of video for Dream No More as well. Very interesting!
He do this because that help him much to sing better :)
sorry 4 my english :D
Vocal exercises/warm-ups, yes.
Chubzdoomer He almost sounds like Axl Rosé for a short moment haha
Chubzdoomer he's setting correct key
Clearing the throat and warming up, normally in choral warmups you'll do scales up and down your vocal range and he basically did most of his top range with some distortion in a quick warmup.
My favourite song in the album!
My favorite! love it!
Imagine being James's kid at school and being able to say your dad is frontman for Metallica.
I needed some hardwired videos cuz this album is FIRE. this will do for now ❤ I need some leather now..
one of the best to me!
Manunkind has some of the the best riffs in the metallica history
I love you guys
8:51 Pancakes go!
What does James really say there when they play live? I can never figure it out
cjflo "Fix me" in studio version.
"Pancakes go" live.
PaleBlueDot Ah, cool boners
*beans
+cjflo Can't tell if that was intentional or autocorrect did it.
i love metallica 😍😘😙😘😚😍😚😘😚😘😘😚
5:45 i like how james still uses his first flying v
If what this video shows represents the entire process then Kirk is right to complain for feeling excluded. His contribution was for this video was 15sec
Partially due to losing his iPhone with a LOT of his demos, but also their approach to this record was really playing to everyone's known strengths: Lars & James steer the ship, Rob & Kirk contribute their flavors. Also worth noting that this is the first album since Kill 'Em All that Kirk doesn't have a single writing credit on :/
over 200 riffs... lost for all we know that could've been the new Master of Puppets, Sanitarium or Creeping death :(
Being able to say a Metallica album came out when I was in high school makes my life better.
Great Song. So heavy, it kind of reminds me of the old metallica, which is a very good thing
Best song!
I FUCKING love this song
