I don't think people realize how much of a rare treat it is to see a band of this magnitude allowing the creative process to be seen like this. Most musicians are really protective and private during this process. It's awesome stuff!
devin barnum I think one of the reasons why they can/want to published videos is the fact that they have nothing to hide while making these songs. I mean James doesn’t use autotune/pitch correction and the instruments are played by human not a computer. Which are pretty common things to do these days in the music business.
@@rodrigofernandez3206 I think it's more rumourcontrol. The fact that they show this mans they want the world to see, you don't do that when you don't care.

This song is underrated, and i dont know why. Its Metallica meets Sabbath riff style, its groovy, has an awesome vocal by James. Cant wait to see all of the new songs live, please make it happen Metallica!!
One of the best songs on the album. Everyone can thrash, speed and hammer along all day. But this super-slick, ultra-heavy groove stuff ... can't fake that. Separates the men from the boys!
Well, this is one of the best songs IF you are a big fan of the Load/Reload songs, because this sounds like it fell right off those albums. This songs isn't terrible to me, but it sounds out of place on this album.
One of the best songs I've heard this year. You can thank the stellar vocal....but, but, Lars has drawn from his old school knowledge and iced the fucking cake!
I know James has had a lot of ups and downs with his vocals BUT MAN he STILL sounds great. Honestly best he has ever sounded IMO. Great mix of singing, soft, hard, growls, and screaming.
Best since long time, but not ever. I'm not that kind of old school hardcore fan at all, tbh I do prefer James nowadays voice, but early 90s he was powerful as hell like Seattle 89 or Mexico City 93 was his voice prime imho
The 89 Seattle vocals do sound really good. I think though he is more dynamic now than ever which is also why I prefer his vocals now. To each their own.
His old school vocals are so damn classic.. But I do agree, he is far more dynamic and has much more control now a days. Very impressive after all these years!
I love Metallica. They were my first concert in Indianapolis justice for all 88/89 or around late 80's. I was 15 yrs old been loving them for 30 yrs. Going to another Metallica concert is on my bucket list. Come to Muncie Indiana. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I understand why Hetfield can't use that voice constantly throughout a two hour live show night after night; but one thing I love about these making of mini docs is seeing him recording the vocals - I know he's never really seen himself as a singer but, fuck, the man has one almighty growl in him.
This was the one that took the most time for me to say "Huh, wow, this is actually pretty good!" James was right when saying it's not just a simple beat, it's an odd beat that will make you think. Because it's not something Metallica, and more specifically Lars, has done before!
I ignored this album, death magnetic as well. I just discovered how amazing both albums are recently after 72 seasons came out. These doctors of metal are true masters of their craft. Thank you Metallica.
*Hello there! I wanna share my opinion on this specific song:* When I first heard 'ManUNkind' I wasn't that sure if this song was good enough for my liking. In other words, this was the most challenging song on the entire album. I wasn't that satisfied with it. But then I decided to give that song more than one try. And guess what? Now i'm in love with it! This song (for me) has the vibes of 'Load/Reload' and some touch of the 'Black Album' vibe. So, Metallica fans, please, give the album more than one shot. After all, we haven't waited 8 years for nothing. This album is the real deal. This is actually the first album I have ever pre-ordered. Got the CD and a digital copy from Google Play Music. This album is played non-stop on my PC and my phone when i'm outside. Thank you, Metallica! Awesome record. #AlbumOfTheYear #HardwiredToSelfDestruct \m/
It does feel uninspired, I agree. I wont say its bad, but it lacks that cutting edge that they had in their first four albums. There isnt one threatening riff, one riff that takes you to the edge. Even spit out the bone which is their most "metal" song in this album sounds soft and round. Again, Im not saying its bad, its just missing its originality, its spirit.
Lol for some reason this made me remember the documentary of the black album when James voice was fucked up and Lars wanted him to sing and James was like "If your arm fell off I wouldnt ask you to play drums" I thought that was hilarious
kirk claims he had a ipad full of like 200 song idea for the new album that he lost, it was all gone. he ended up not writing anything except a couple of his solos, and even those are mostly molded by Lars
If what this video shows represents the entire process then Kirk is right to complain for feeling excluded. His contribution was for this video was 15sec
Partially due to losing his iPhone with a LOT of his demos, but also their approach to this record was really playing to everyone's known strengths: Lars & James steer the ship, Rob & Kirk contribute their flavors. Also worth noting that this is the first album since Kill 'Em All that Kirk doesn't have a single writing credit on :/

Love these BTS/BTM. Not many artists and bands get to show how their music comes together. To see a band like Metallica sit around bounce off ideas, play riffs, beats, etc. is amazing. And the process, showing they not just throwing any shit together. They truly wanna make a worthy sound and be proud of it.
It's very interesting to watch the work, thought, trial and error It can take to create a song. It must be even more difficult to decide on the exact sound and vocals to use which you personally like and what will end up on the album and hope fans will like it.
What a treat! They all seem like such nice guys these days. I remember watching that making of the Black Album back in the day and, wow, they have grown up. Haha. Would love to see a video on the making of the ManUnkind video. That damn thing has me researching Norwegian Black Metal history. Ugh.

Justice is great but when it came out I did start to lose a little faith in Kirk for the first time mainly because I thought his lead in To Live is to Die sucked & his outro lead in Shortest straw was played slightly out of key on purpose which didn't sound good to me either.. At the time he referenced Randy Rhoads saying that he even did that but Randy sounded great & appropriate when he did that only for a very small part in Diary of a Madman unlike Kirk which didn't sound right.. I remember he said James didn't like it so he said he had to fight for that one.
I always thought Mustaine wrote the vast majority of solos for the first four albums? Though that may not be true. I never really looked into it too heavily.
I know that Lars is not the best drummer out there..but somehow, I like how he plays drums..with his own characteristic and his unique style..have seen a lot of drummer playing Metallica's songs and better technically than Lars..but, it doesnt sounds like Lars..he sounds more human, un-flat with dynamic, unpredictable and all the flaw seems so wrong..but also perfect at the same time.

Its not. I fuc**n love it!!!!
Just the title is corny but I love the riffs
I love the way Lars puts so much effort into the simplest of rhythms lol.
Those faces.
He labors big time on everything, BUT, he pulls it off in the end and we wouldn't have "metal" without him. Gotta love that little garden gnome.

Not necessarily those, but I'm a fan of songs such as 2x4 , Devil's Dance or Fixxxer, which is seriously grooving, big balls, adult male metal.
