Diamond Size Comparison on Hand Finger and Engagement Ring
    Carat Sizes: 1 Carat, 2 Carat, 3 Carat, 4 Carat, 0.5 ct, 0.25, 0.75, 1.5, 0.3, 0.8, 0.7, 0.6, 0.4, 0.9, 1/2, 1/3, 2/3, 1/4, 3/4, .33, .66, .99
    Karat Sizes, Diamond Carrot
In this video we will do a side by side diamond size comparison on the hand and finger as well as a price comparison. We will compare all the diamond sizes in this video to this 1 Carat Diamond on a hand with a size 6 finger. We will start at size .25 carat and work our way up close to a 4 carat. This 1 carat diamond at Kay Jewelers and like most Brick and Mortar jewelry stores is about $19,600 and that is because it is very high quality. In fact all the diamonds on the hands in this video are all an ideal cut and we will explain why later. Now we also take those diamonds and compare them to jewelry store prices of an exact same quality diamond from a link I will put in the description below this video. This 1 carat is $9,150 so you'd save over $10,000 buying it from my link below this video.
First lets start with a .25 or 1/4 carat diamond on the hand. Compared to a 1 carat diamond it is very unimpressive and normally people don't go this low for a center stone. Its main appeal though is that it is only $830 from a mall jewelry store and only $580 from the link I have below.
Next we look at a .33 or 1/3 carat diamond. Usually this is the lowest people go for a center stone. Carat is actually just the weight of the diamond so remember just because it is a higher Carat doesn't necesarrily mean it is visually bigger and jewelry stores can get you to buy smaller diamonds this way. Buying a .3 online you would save over a thousand dollars.
A .4 carat diamond is starting to look a little more substantial than the others. You can actually increase the carat size of the stone without it looking bigger However since these diamonds are ideally cut you can be sure this is not the case. You'd save about $1,200 buying this diamond from the link below this video.

I married the love of my life and only went with a .35 carat diamond ring because that’s all I could afford. She now has been wearing that ring for over 9 years. For those reading this, size shouldn’t matter! Love matters. I will now be presenting her a 1.5 carat diamond ring for our 10 year anniversary.

In the end it's all about prestige and ego. My ex-husband was in the jewelry business and I had an impressive 2-carat cushion cut that everyone ooohed and ahhed about. It really was obnoxious compared to my size finger and hand. I am now recently engaged to a wonderful man and we decided to save the $$ and I got a beautiful high quality princess cut stone that is about 1/3 of a carat. It looks perfect and elegant on my little 5 1/2 size finger. Now I get genuine complements instead of "jealous" ones. LOL PS. I dont have the old ring, it was given to a relative to keep in the family.

I never really understood carats. When you watch TV everyone makes a big deal about 3, 4, 5 carat rings, but as someone who is a size 6 similar to the model everything over 1 carat just looked huge to me. I'll go with a .95 and save money. This video is very educational thank you

Rick, I recently saw an older engagement ring (50+ years) that had 2 square cut, 6 carat diamonds set diagonally in a yellow gold band. Any estimate what a ring like that would be worth? I thought 6 carats each would be gaudy, but the lady wearing the ring is 5'11" and really rocks the ring----no pun intended! Oh---thanks for a great video!!!!!

Actually normal / big / small size of a diamond depends on the society where you live. If most people around you buy 1 ct diamond then this size is normal. If most people buy 0.1 ct or 10 ct diamond then this size is normal for you (psychologically).
The author says that "0.25 ct diamond is very unimpressive and normally people don't go this low for a center stone diamond".
It isn't correct and the author should say which people don't go this low and which does.
In 2nd world countries 0.25 ct is a big diamond (can be compared to 2 ct in 1st world countries). In fact, most engagement rings in such countries are between 0.05 ct and 0.15 ct. If we are talking about 3rd world countries, then the ring with any diamond is a rare.
Just think, how would you feel if you open some video and the author says "4 ct diamond is very unimpressive and normally people don't go this low for a center stone diamond. Mostly people start from 15 ct".
Hope I didn't offend anyone. I do understand that the video is focused for a special category of people but please be ethical. Sorry for the criticism.

Julie Ryan Grandmother, 1920's missionary to Brazil, brought back a set right at a caret with a Portuguese cut , very sparkly and called in those days, "blue-white",seemed to be desired by all in the family , always admired with " Ooh-oo's " and " Ah-h-h's" was lovingly passed on to myself, one of three adopted grandchildren. I wear it for her ,in honor of her
99++ years . She said to me in church one day, " if I ever get to feeling POOR, I just look down and give my diamond a little twinkle!" . I was only four or five years old , but I hoped one day she would let me wear and "twinkle" it !

I looked on Blue Nile and James Allen both extensively and I couldn't believe my eyes on how much more reasonably priced their stones were compared to other retailers. What is the average size for a center stone for an engagement ring vs a wedding ring? Also if you have a diamond ring that is 1/20 of a karat how would I know if that is the total weight? The way the jeweler explained it to me is that the center stone for a ring 1/20 in size is a simulated stone and the little diamonds that surround it are actually pieces of a real diamond... if that makes any sense.... is that true for all smaller karat rings? Thank you!

I’ll add, it’s INCREDIBLE how misleading and shady some brick and mortar (even chains) are. If you are well informed, some don’t want to show you certificates and others will even go as far as saying they don’t certify smaller diamonds. I purchased from a competitor of the site listed for a pendant necklace and was AMAZED at how transparent and easy the process was. I look at all jewelry stores like used car lots now. Spend a little bit of time, educate yourself and make you AND your partner happy. Videos like this help, but is not the end all. Spend some time reading about what you’re trying to achieve, what you need and don’t. You’ll thank yourself over and over that you did!

I have a stunning yellow natural sapphire. Just purchase the stone loose and choose your setting later, which can include diamonds.

Rick, please help me!!! I'm looking for a 3 carat round brilliant G or H color, excellent cut and SI2 (eye clean). I've learned a good bit about diamonds do you think it's worth the savings to try and buy at JamesAllen and have a jeweler set it for me? The only issue is I don't get any trade in value for my first ring if I do this and I may take a huge hit selling it consignment. The wholesaler I found seemed to be about the same price range as our jewelers stones so I'm thinking either James Allen or our jeweler. Please advise.

Madelynn DeJarlais Lab-created diamonds have no resale value. That means if you buy a lab-created diamond, you won't be able to reap any part of what you paid for it. For example, if you bought this 1ct lab-created diamond, you'd have a beautiful stone, yet no jeweler will buy it back.

@@Algin1224 I will never buy a lab diamond for my engagement ring with the intention of selling it again, and I refuse to take part of a system that exploits people at every angle of the process, it isn't about the imaginary value of what's on your hand, it's about the people who gave it to you. Whether the person made the diamond, cut the diamond, or bought the diamond for you to be engaged, everyone in the process matters.
