    So if the ASET diagram can be the most effective measurement of light performance, why do we care about the 4Cs? If the diamond merchants all show the ASET diagram, the consumers should have a much easier time choosing diamonds. Is it because they deliberately avoid showing the diagram and want to scam people?

      Hi Rehman,
      Thank you for your kind words!
      As GIA does not grade the light performance of the diamond, diamonds could still have light leakages even if they are graded as excellent on the certificate.
      We uses the Ideal and ASET scope to view the light performance of the diamond, Excellent on the GIA can still be a very loose term.
      It could range from Super Ideal Cut, Ideal Cut and a common Triple Excellent Cut.
      In addition, the Ideal Cut and a common Triple excellent diamonds are traded at a cheaper price.

    Why is space dark? The shorter the wavelength of the light, the darker it is or the dark light refracts to the medium and caused the prism, the darker diamond B didn't emit much prism as the light passes through it because it has higher refractive index than Diamond A. When the refractive index occurred in the Diamond B, it showed its luminiscence of the refractive index, light, speed of light and the velocity of light, as the light bends it hits other angle and facets in the diamond.
    The Diamond A has much dispersion of the light. Dispesion cause more rainbow colors to appear and be visible.

      GemEx scientifically and objectively measures and reports on a diamond's ability to reflect and refract light - which is what makes it sparkle...

    ok...the 'D' has a crown angle of 36.0 degree and a pavilion angle of 41.0...that combination falls in the excellent cut range for both GIA & AGS...the 'F' crown angle is 34.0 w a pavilion angle of 40.8...that combination falls in the AGS ideal cut range...and GIA excellent cut range (since GIA does not have an ideal cut grade)...in addition the 'D' is deeper than the 'F' stone...kinda apples and oranges if you ask me!

    • @JannPaulDiamonds
      @JannPaulDiamonds  6 років тому +1

      Hi John, unfortunately, GIA does not grade the light performance of a diamond. Hence, you would not be able to tell if a diamond is a Super Ideal Cut quality, based on the GIA certificate alone. You would need to check the light performance of the diamond under the ASET scope, and its optical symmetry under the Hearts & Arrows scope.
      In the meantime, you can check out this video, where we explained what you should look out for in a GIA certicate,

    So are you stating that the diamond cutter is the most important person in the process when determine which diamond shows more life and sparkle regardless that one of the diamonds is D color and the better more sparkle is the diamond that is F in color. Right now when I press on the responses after the statements I can’t read the statements . .. this happens to me sometimes on UA-cam and other times I’m able to see the responses and I don’t know how to fix that. But I think I’m correct in stating that the way a diamond is cut can make all the difference in making a diamond brighter. Very well cut diamonds by expert diamond cutters makes the difference in the sparkle. I inherited my mother’s diamond which was bought in the diamond district in New York City on 46th street in 1961. It is extremely sparkly and was not treated with fluorescence and though it is graded G color it sparkles almost like a D or E color because it is cut so beautifully. It also looks larger than it is because the table of the diamond is slightly broader on the top of the diamond making it appear larger than what it actually is.

    • @JannPaulDiamonds
      @JannPaulDiamonds  7 років тому +3

      Hi Sar, thank you for your comment!
      Diamond A (F Color) has a much better light performance than Diamond B (D Color). Hence, Diamond A appears much brighter / ''whiter'' due to its strong light return. Both diamonds are GIA Triple Excellent stones. However, GIA does not grade the light performance of a diamond. What this means is that a poor light performing diamond that suffers from massive light leakages can still be graded as a GIA Triple Excellent stone.

      Excellent is a very loose description, having a wide range of allowable dimensions. To get a truly excellent diamond you need to know the dimensions the diamond is cut at regarding pavilion, table, depth, crown etc. All this information should be on the certificate which is why it's important to see the cert before buying. The ASET also gives really good information and should be viewed before purchasing. This link can help explain more regarding cut proportions:

    • @JannPaulDiamonds
      @JannPaulDiamonds  7 років тому +14

      Hi Kode701,
      Thank you for your comment! Yes, Diamond B has medium blue fluorescence. Fluorescence are boron particles that may cause the diamond to appear chalky/milky/oily under UV light (Sunlight). In addition, blue fluorescence may give a diamond a slight blueish tint under UV light.
      However, these visual affects would only be apparent under UV light (Sunlight). In the video, the diamonds were taken indoors (under fluorescent light and LED light). Hence, the fluorescence in the diamond would not have any visual effects in the comparison video.
      Perhaps I should have mentioned this in the video. Thank you for bringing it up! :)

    I find it odd that you attributed all the dullness of diamond B to cut and not to the fact that is has medium fluorescence which of course will have an impact on how it appears in various lighting conditions. It clearly is hazy looking in sunlight and that’s likely due to the fluorescence that the D stone has while the F has no fluorescence. The difference in cut is also very minimal if you look at the diagrams on both certificates. That alone won’t produce the difference we see.

    Bottom line.. no need to ever get over a F color.. or even H or G in most cases.

    After all of that I still don't know which diamond brings a higher price. How much more does B sell for over A, or is it the other way around.

      I have an excellent cut E color diamond (.5 carat) and I knew B was the D color diamond. The explanation was good but if both diamonds are the same in all respects except color than the "light leakages" in diamond B should not have been there.

    The reason Diamond A shines better is because it doesn’t have fluorescence. If the color of the diamond is in the I to L color, fluorescence will come in handy.

      Not entirely. A is brighter and whiter due to excellent cut(true hearts and arrow) and with no light leakages compared to B.

    This video is VERY, VERY MISLEADING! Unless one is grading a fancy colored diamond, i.e. pink, blue, or yellow, the stone is ALWAYS graded in the TABLE DOWN. position.

    What causes light leakage?

    • @vince6466
      @vince6466 6 років тому

      badly cut shape, the light is refracted via total internal reflection. if the angle is too deep or shallow the light simply refracts out of the diamond, hence leakage.

    • @vicky6012
      @vicky6012 6 років тому

      poor cut by looks of it, diamond b is the better d GRADE BUT THE poor cut has gave it light leakage and should actually be cheaper
