    Dr Berg, thank you for your videos. I am a female, 61 Y/O, 5'4" tall at 150#, and I had been having weight issues since Menopause. I just recently found your videos and had studied them quite intensely. I then began to initiate the protocol that you advise...and within 2 weeks of changing my eating habits, I went from the 150 pounds down to 144 in, what seemed to be, no time at all. I am still working on this and am hoping to get down to my pre-menopausal weight of 128, which is where I have always felt my best. I am in great health, with no meds to take at this point in my life. I have to say THANK YOU SO Much!
    And for you people out there that are not getting results, then A: your cheating, or B: your not following instructions very well, or you have other issues going on. Get off your drugs, and start eating good (organic) and healthy. Just start moving, whether your walking, or exercising, you will (should) see results.

    There is a lot of things Dr. Berg i agree with and some that i don't. This is one of them. The high protein diet is critical, especially if you have a high intensity weight training regimen. Also, a high protein diet will aid fat loss and will NOT convert into fat. That process is not a favorable process and is more difficult to achieve compared to converting carbohydrates into fats. Meats do provide sources of vitamins and minerals but not as abundant as they are in veggies, which I consume in high amounts. Also calcium deficiencies can easily be retained by eating dairy products which also have a lot of protein. I personally eat 1.5g of protein per pound of body weight. Not only has research shown this to be a great number to maximize gains in muscle mass and strength, but it also helps shed off body fat even further. P.S. 3 Whole eggs a day :)

      Nirav Surati hey. So I'm starting to get really into my fitness journey. I'm working out and doing weight training. So I'm trying to learn about protein. What your saying in finding out to be very true. But this is for active people. But I have a question more for my husband. I want to get him eating more healthy. But he doesn't really workout. He isn't a couch potato but he works outside so he comes home to tired to work out. My question is. Should I also get him in such a high protein diet with me? Or not? I don't want him to lose weight as he is already skinny. I'd like him to kinda gain some muscle and just be normally healthy, not loyal king about having an athletic body with gains and all that. Just talking about normal healthy diet. What do you suggest for some one like him? How much protein does he need? I'm deff going to involve more veggies in our meals. But I'm concerned and confused on what to do for proteins for him? Should I give him a bunch and maybe he can get a bit thicker but in a healthy way. Not fat. But a little more muscle? Or will the protein turn into fat with him because he doesn't work out and lift weights?

    I like most of the information you have out that I have seen but unprocessed animal protein does provide a huge amount of vitamins, especially all of the B vitamins. To say that protein does not provide vitamins and minerals is misleading. Also animal protein also provide some minerals, such as selenium found in oysters but I agree that potassium is a key mineral that lacks in high-protein diets, along with magnesium. For the record, I am an advocate of eating non-starchy veggies.

    Sometimes I will have a protein day, liver, nuts, fish (wish I could afford some good fresh fish, locally caught) and also fond organic lived, especially chickens. I go through a lot of fresh spinach too.. Tinned sardines on toast is a staple for me and have noticed mental performance better when I eat some protein for breakfast. Skin elasticity better too, plus I drink around 3 litres water daily. Wasn't there an experiment carried out by two doctors who fed a man pure protein for a year, after the war?

    • @levedia
      @levedia 7 років тому +5

      Totally agree the guy is talking out of his ass. These are extremists that at the end of the day want to sell you there supplements. High protein is imperative if you workout. The 100 grams that he says its way too much for the liver then whats a good amount 40 grams ? Not even enough for a little mice to eat. We need to eat he says over 4700 mg of potassium a day equivalent of 10 cups of salad. Wh ois going to have 10 cups of salad every day ?? So he recomends his wheat grass juice powder that you will get from only one scoop. A con artist. Uses fear to hook you and sell you his stuff. Like u said there is no proof whatsoever or legitimate studies to show that. A fucken quack thats what he is. The guy is chiropractor he should stick to it.

      Eric York our bodies don't require as much protein as we're lead to believe. Try out organic pumpkin seed powder. Protein intake is largely determined by ones height. The post workout elixir I consume typically consists of pumpkin seed powder, spirulina and nutritional yeast and usually comes under 30g of protein. My recovery is just fine.

    • @sblijheid
      @sblijheid 3 роки тому

      That's not what he said. There are a lot of internet myths telling people to eat an x amount of protein per pound of body weight and some say that you should eat 100 grams of protein a day, some say 150, some even go as high as 300. These numbers are arbitrary and not really based in science. More like one person sucks a number out of their thumb, and the next guys sucks out another, and on, and on it goes. The reality is that everyone is different. An active person can handle 100 grams easily, whereas a person with a sedentary lifestyle cannot. Then we have the different genders that absorb differently also.
      But everything aside, 100 grams of protein is heavy. I know that when I have my bread and cheese, which I prefer to down with milk, that I'm stuffed half way. I'm more sedentary now, but years ago when I was more active, I would eat more than that with even more room left in my stomach.

    Great info Doc. Im just starting to eat healthy after 15 years of not caring really. According to some quizes Ive taken I am a protein metabolic type. Im going to start eating protein in 4oz to 6oz 2:1 to carbs from vegetables and heathly fats like omega 3 and 6. Im cutting all white bread and starches and eating mainly whole grains like spelt, barley and oats. Also cutting out all sugars like colas, processed foods. The only sugar I will consume will be in the form of raw honey in small amounts. Also will be taking one to two Rainbow light multivitamins a day to help with my intake of vitamins and minerals. Will be drinking mainly water and occasionally fresh brewed teas like cinnamon or oregano teas sweetened with a little raw honey. I will only be eating certain fruits a few times a week. Any will be eating certain nuts like almonds and walnuts 2 to 3 times a weeks. In your Professional opinion do you think that this is a heathly diet? Im a blood type O and need to lose about 100 lbs. Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks and I just subscribed.

      The human body is designed to be predominantly fruitarian. If you're looking to increase potassium levels then get plant sterol trace minerals, Swiss chard, red/burro bananas and white beans.

    The secret is not getting fat in the first place.
    If you have a “regular” diet that’s carb biased, you would need to be pretty much starving all the time to have any serious weight loss.

    Dr Berg I must ask does a high protein bodybuilder diet cause alot of ammonia and then as a result possible encephalopathy? Because there's
    alot of even natural guys out there comusing close to 200 grams a day for years etc. Competitive bodybuilders on Test, HGH, Insulin etc might
    be on 300+ a day its worring! Thanks

      SamuraiMarcelKibagami Protein intake depends upon ones height, first and foremost. We don't need as much protein as we've been lead to believe.

    obviously geared towards the average person who doesn't take fitness serious. Fitness enthousiast, like me, can easily put together a meal plan that has 50% of you kcal in protein, and still get enough vitamins, minerals and fibers through dark green vegetables such as broccoli, spinach etc...I can even throw a banana in there for the extra pottasium while still maintaining a fairly low carb consumption. The thing is that I wouldn't recommend a very-high protein diet for a long time, and keep it for like 2 weeks before switching out. Also an increased water consumption is paired with the higher intake of protein. Also, keep it with a caloric deficit, so things as converting protein into fat isn't likely to happen. my 2cents.

      If you're more of a protein powder person, 1 oz equals 28 grams. A jar of protein powder will usually tell you the amount of protein per serving in grams.

    wrong again, there are no studies, journals, tests etc. that say high protein is bad for you if you have healthy organs. unless i misunderstood you, fat doesnt increase your blood sugar, sugar does. our bodies burn fat for energy and...oh nevermind, you're the professional...
