The band is referred to by fans as Deep Purple Mk. II as the band changed two members after releasing, iirc 3 pretty good albums and the single "Hush" which you should check out and is the line up preferred by many. The quality of the musicianship in this band, in my opinion, has never been matched and Ian Gillan in his prime was the greatest rock singer of all time. While DP is recognized as part of the Holy Trinity of Hard Rock with Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin they never seemed to get the same amount of recognition. Anyway, this version of the band has Ian Gillan on vocals, Roger Glover on drums, Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, Ian Paice on drums and Jon Lord (R.I.P.) on the Hammond keyboard. The band just dropped a new album which is getting very good reviews, rocking on after 54 years and providing great music. Don Airey, although not the great Jon Lord, has been great and Simon McBride on guitar gives the band a more Blackmore sound than Steve Morse who was amazing in his own right but did bring a less dynamic sound. I first saw Purple in '73 with this lineup and have seen them in various incarnations 5 times and they never disappoint. Finally got into the Rock Hall of Fame a couple of years ago, long overdue in my opinion. Ian Gillan was the original choice to sing Jesus in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar and his "Gethsemane" is breath taking and never equalled; others have tried and done well but none come close, imho...check it out. Gillan was a close friend of Luciano Pavarotti's, perhaps the greatest opera tenor ever, and they headlined and sang together at a number of very successful charity concerts...Luciano and Friends. I won't bore you with more details but congratulations my young friend on discovering one of the greatest bands of all time.
You should listen to Highway Star you will love it and many more Deep Purple songs they are my favorite band and they are the best to see live which I did twice
Good job. Deep Purple has just released a new album with Simon McBride taking Steve Morse's place. Three tracks are available and they are excellent. More of a return to Blackmore guitar; not copying but respecting. This might be their last album and its a good one. 54 years of producing great music.
Ian Gillan,Deep Purple’s singer is one of the best of all time,in my opinion. Check him out singing Gethsemene from Jesus Christ Superstar. You won’t be disappointed!

I didn't know Deep Purple had TWO drummers. You got a bit mixed up and typed Roger Glover on drums instead of bass...lol.

Their first two albums were released in 1968, making it 56 years of great music.
