The audience was acting like that because they were on tv and the producer's didn't want them going crazy. Imagine how much a of pain it would be to sit still while greatness was performed in front of them.
Actually no.
The audience was acting like that because it was about the Vietnam War.
There was not much to cheer about.
If you will, please revisit the song and listen close to its substance.
@@fotodav1010 headbanging at least, it‘s art, music
A very seriouse theme in the song, The audienece understood ,,
@@fotodav1010 If you listen to Made in Japan, no. People rocked out to this song.
@@atticusjackson2273 I suppose in Japan it would be different yes.
Song is a masterpiece. Some of the best musicians on earth.
One the of the most epic live performances ever recorded…paused 14 times
And audio and video are not synced
@@ponytrekker8996 yep, a lazy reaction to be frank.
Filmed for TV so the audience had to stay cool saw them in '73 we didn't stop clapping shouting the entire show and at times in awe for instance during this song lol✌🤘
since 2018 Deep Purple has put out 2 albums to add to their 30 plus albums between 1968-2021
I been listening to Deep Purple over 50 years. They were my best friends favorite band. He wore purple because of them. I always liked them but now days I appreciate them so much more than I did back then. We just took it for granted. We thought bands like Deep Purple and Zep and Sabbath would just keep forming. Wish I could go back to these days
It was a studio audience that's why they sat there, they were probably told to.
It was about the Vietnam War, yo!
Some other great Deep Purple songs: Highway Star, Space Truckin', Smoke On the Water, Speed King, Hush, Woman From Tokyo, just for starters.
You Keep On Moving!
BURN
Funniest part of this was when you said "check out this dudes hair", without irony! Brilliant.
One of the Unholy Trio: Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath. Together they formed the basis of what would become the heavy metal genre.
51 years old today
Seen them 5 times live.
Ian Gillan's voice was so powerful he never needed, nor used monitors when performing live. You'll only see him reach up and close off his left ear to be able to hear himself better and keep in tune.
Deep Purple "Highway Star" Wrote the song on way to a live concert the same day and rehearsed it once and put it in the show that night.
'72 and 4 or 5 friends screaming at the top of our lungs (the part you like) in someones bedroom on a cheap phonograph. While his sisters in the other room yelling for us to shut the.. up! Memories with this song Sweet Child in Time. Couple years later this was the all time greatest slow dance song and man, that gave a guy a whole lotta time for all the moves. Basement Parties with all the lights off and just some funky mood candle lit. I remember Celi....
yes more deep purple.. highway star,,,and my fav its even my ringtone... ..perfect strangers..
Nice thanks for doing this song
Studio audience! Told to stay in their seats. This band was huge for awhile 🤩
I hope your boot camp went well & you are ready for the next part of your journey in life! Just never forget all this great music of my generation 1967-2000 & keep the good vibes flowing - PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS!
I see you reached a higher stage of enlightenment and received you third eye.
Knocking at your back door and Perfect Strangers by deep purple
This is better than the studio version. In fact, as we say in Blighty, it kicks arse...
My favorite song, the version on "Made in Japan" is my personal fave. What gets me is that original studio version is the one that made it my fave BUT somehow every other recording or concert was better!!🤷♂️
I'm agree, but Blackmore's solo on the studio version is incredible
Finally, some legit music here
The studio told the crowd to be quiet for the live recording, it was 1970 UK public broadcasting TV. A different time, with a whole lot less and simpler technology. Even the camera work is terrible, focusing on the wrong things at the wrong time. But it sounds awesome though!
This is a studio audience it was being recorded for broadcast they were asked to stay quiet during the performance
Todo lo magnífico que se diga de Deep Purple es poco, son geniales, maestros. La mejor banda del mundo!!
Deep Purple Highway Star is an awesome song unless you are driving then you may have to watch for speeding to the beat
I like the couple of comments about their wild hair; you had to lean back for your hair to fit on my laptop screen!
Try " Strange Kind Of Woman" live from " Made In Japan" 1972.
Deep Purple ,Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin the kings of rock
Alternate universe? Then: Musicians delivering, audience barely reacting. Today: Someone walking near the stage, audience fainting.
Great reaction
You haircut is "hahaha" too. :)
I recommend u check out Blackmore's Night... it's ex-Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore's band w/ his wife Candace Night on vocals - they play acoustic folk, medieval & Christmas-style music. Blackmore left Deep Purple in 1993, and seems happier these days playing mellower music as a guitar hero. Check out 'Under a violet moon'.
Deep Purple is still together w/ 3 of these 5 member still in the band - lead singer is Ian Gillan.
God.Dess.....Ill never stop.
You gotta keep stopping a fucking Classic ??? He's getting there, understatement of the year !!
can't eat while you watch Deep Purple
i will buy anything from you your a rock star
This was 1970, when Black Sabbath was just getting their first album out. DP were already stars. They were one of the first bands to put out what soon became known as heavy metal.
interviewer: so as a kid, who did you like better, zeppelin or sabbath?
bruce dickinson: deep purple.
So much fun discovering this music with you, Scribe! Happy to see you back!
Live Woman from Tokyo album. The unique duel between vocals and lead.
Ritchie Blackmore..THE guitar VIRTUOSO
I saw these guys back in the '80s. The streets of Chicago shook with their power!!!!
Ritchie Blackmore's so cool He can play a guitar solo without making that "I'm playing so hard I'm in pain" face.
The highlight of this video...you riffing on Ritchie Blackmore's hairstyle lol...I was dying laughing when you said that. But this is a great underrated Deep Purple song
My drum setup is always exactly the same, i know where everything is so i don't need to see much when performing. I'd imagine it's pretty much the same for most drummers.
i cant be the only aussie here wishing she'd do some cold chisel, or the angels or whatnot.
any time i have ever played some of that for americans their reaction has always been 'holy sh*t how did i miss this all these years?'
Seeing as you can reach those notes, (which few can), we now need the cover version...
Yesss!!!!!!
O my god. Her body movement shows you all you need to know.
I would suggest Richie Havens @ Woodstock 1969.
Hermoso, uno de mis temas favoritos de deep purple, grande, me encantanbtus reacciones en especial con el rock clásico, me encantan un saludo desde chile 🤘🇨🇱🤘
2:25 "This dude's hair is wild!!"....have you looked in a mirror lately? Lol!
Drumming on "Space Trucking" is excellent !!!
If you think these guys rock, you should check out Cactus (RIP Rusty Day and Tom Bogert).
Cactus songs recommend for reaction:
Parchman Farm
Lady from South Detroit
Bro. Bill
Oleo
Feel Soo Good
One Way or Another
Long Tall Sally
Song for Aries
Rockout Whatever You Feel Like
Big Mama Boogie
Guiltless Glider
Evil
Alaska
Bag Drag/Mean Night in Cleaveland
C-70 Blues (the Sun is Shining)
Yes ,cactus is a great band. They were awesome live
I dig me some Deep Purple. Check out the excellent tunes on Machine Head ScribeCash. Yep.
What a song for intro to a new band...I seen them live 2 show in 2018, Ian still hitting the high notes at 70+ years old. They had a great tribute to John Lord, whoever the keyboardist is is damn good also... Thanks. Other great songs, Perfect Strangers, Space Truckin, Knockin at Your Backdoor, Burn, Smoke On The Water, Hush, Highway Star,
Don airey
Saw them in 1972 Machine Head Tour.
Definitely react to Space Truckin'!
i remmber them rashes.. i had them on every part of my body in 1981 at parris island sc... them 12 weeks turned me into a real man. i dont care how tough you think you are you learn in about 12 hours you are a soft wimp. after 12 weeks of marines boot camp you can eat concreate ...Oorah!
My brother, who for his entire life wrote one sentence letters, wrote me a letter with about 3 sentences in it from Paris Island Marines boot camp, and that's how I knew it was rough!
@@Looneyintheboonies yes indeed I'm surprised he had enough energy to write that. It must had been after hell week. Tell your brother oorah for me. It has special meaning in boot camp. It's what give us the power to keep going.
@@SIR-DanielHunter Lordy, that made me tear up.. my brother ended up suffering bad head injuries in the military, and really went though years of struggles that I don't think many could survive. You marines are really the few and the proud. He is doing great now. I will tell him oorah from you!
I also think that the audience was not a ROCK audience.
It was a Granada / BBC tv audience, who were probably hoping for The Monkees or Tommy Steele. lol
So, Ian Paice is the drummer. You want to see him go? Check out the song Burn. Just don't do the live from the Hollywood Bowl version. David Coverdale's vocals are horrid in it. It's pretty much a drum solo with vocals. So, Burn, Highway Star, Smoke on the Water, Black Knight, Perfect Strangers, Space Truckin', Nobody's Home. and definitely Lazy! These are some DP songs you need to do.
And Mule
Watch Ian on UA-cam Live at the Belzen Jazz Fest. Wring That Neck 1969. He does a solo that's crazy. It's a 24 min. Jam session. Richie does some amazing solos also in this jam
Yeah I agree with the others I found it hilarious you laughed at Richie Blackmore’s hair …understandably so …it was pretty ridiculous back in the day I know high school graduation I had hair like the lead singer Ian Gillian! It was pretty easy to grow, just don’t do anything! But I look at the hairstyles now and I think THEY look ridiculous but you guys probably won’t realize it till about 40 years from now when your kids look back and laugh! Man buns, dreads, women shaving the side of their head, blue hair pink hair green hair! Hair piled on top of the head like cowpies! I guess we all look ridiculous At times!😄The more things change the more they stay the same!! ha ha love your reaction videos!
Do HIGHWAY STAR!
Do HUSH!
Do BURN!
You are cracking me up talking about "a whole lot of hair" with 10 lbs of braids on top of your head... you are so funny! Watch live concert footage of any concert during that Era. Believe me, no one is just sitting there! Whenever you guys say that you don't understand why the crowd is just sitting there, remember they are recording for TV 📺 back then and have been told not to make noise. Everything was different back then and technology has come a long way. I'm sure they have the means to drown out crowd noise now. But you never see the crowd just sitting there during live concert footage. Also, just a footnote about the song content, all those bands especially in England at that time grew up in the aftermath of WWII. England was probably still on food rations. Bands like the Who, whose members grew up playing in rubble from all the bombing, said when they came to the United States, they took steaks back home in their luggage because they couldn't get anything like that at home. Sorry if I went on too long, I'm just trying to set the stage and give you some background about the period! And thank you for your service! Congratulations on going into the Coast Guard!
It's a little different when she's talking about men with long hair.
@@kentclark6420 why???
@@kentclark6420 Having grown up with long hair being on men, it doesn't seem odd to me at all. I tell ya what I couldn't stand, was for years, every white and black man you saw was shaved bald wearing wife beater t-shirts with their pants hanging down past their asses, and each one looked like a carbon copy of the other. THAT was weird and from a female perspective, not in the least attractive. Give me hair on any human being anytime. Being bald because of age or early stage baldness is natural. That's fine. But it seemed like for years all I saw were guys that looked like walking (I ain't gonna say it) - heads.
@@Looneyintheboonies I lived through the 60s as a teen at that time, so I had long hair, as well. People change, and now it looks weird to see guys with long hair.
@@kentclark6420 It depends on who is doing the looking...
I grew up in the late 60's early 70's and this one one of the all time best protest songs of the Vietnam war. This was the best era of music from rock to Motown that ever existed!
Pink Floyd AND Deep Purple on the same day? Damn! Other songs to recommend are Burn, Highway Star, Stormbringer, Space Truckin.
TV show in Denmark. Weird show. weird location.
love DP never understood the Danish 📺 thing.
My hunch is that the video directors wanted the crowd to just sit there while this particular video was cut??🤷🏻♂️
They wrote this song about an exmarine who killed his mom and then climbed up a tower on a college campus and proceeded to shoot dozens of people. Sadly this really happened
and speaking of the drummers hair, you need to get you some Ramones - PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS!
Smoke on the Water!
Check out their song Burn, live at California Jam. Or Highway Star from their Made in Japan album (one of the best live rock albums ever).
Exactly the hairstyle you .....
Lazy is the opposite of the song title.
Is this a reaction video or a commercial for your record?
I hope no more people are getting views to this person.
The crowd was subdued because Mother superior was tricked in having them play in her building. She then got ready for an exodus. They were how most straight heads looked when they saw the world/Vietnam.
I love this song, and love Purple. glad you enjoyed it, this is great-but there is so much purple to discover. Vader_Joe71 below gave some great pointers. Just ordered your album, looking forward to listening to it.
One damned fine band. A fantastic drummer and most likely the world's second greatest guitarist after Jimmy page of Lee Zeppelin, Richie Blackmore. The singer is Ian Gillan and besides Deep Purple he is famous for being the voice of Jesus Christ on the album (not the film) version of "Jesus Christ Superstar." That album is worth a listen too as well. You get to feel the confusion, pain, and doubt Christ most likely had during his last days. Gillan's voice brings it out so incredibly well. Incidentally, this song is about the first mass shooting in the 60's at Texas University when a gunman opened up on the students below from the top of the Texas tower on campus! I'd love to see you in uniform!!!
Great tribute song to the 500 a month on average soldiers dying not including injured! and of course the local population in Vietnam! have an album with them playing with the Philamonic symphony great musicians!
both those guitars look like the ones i have. lol.
I think the crowd is too much in shock to respond because they've never heard anything like this before. They don't know how to respond.
Please react to 'Hush', by Deep Purple. Try it, you'll like it! Hope all is going well in the Coast Guard!
Their only song to hit #1
TV studio audience they are told to shut up
It's the BBC TV England
Hey Scribe, Jon Lord is the keyboard player, Ian Gillan is the lead singer, Ian Paice the drummer and Ritchie Blackmore the guitarist. Nick Simper was the bassist. This group was always at each other, with Ian Gillan the singer and Ritchie Blackmore the guitarist the main combatants. While they were together they made great music. Ritchie was a classically trained guitarist who's mastery of the guitar neck was unmatched in speed and accuracy. Ian was the original Jesus in the play Jesus Christ SuperStar. The original group got together for a reunion show, all except Ritchie. Some wounds don't heal.
You have to remember this was the acid-rock era and those kind of dramatic stops and starts play with your brain. Hair was everywhere. My own was down to my waist and I had a full red beard, I was in my late teens and early twenties. So now you got a taste of the Seventies in England. If you want a comparable band in the U.S. at the same time I'll send you a link to The Allman Brothers Band from the same time frame. ABB was considered the best jam band........ever!!!! The is a song called, 'Whippin' Post'. You won't be wasting your time.
ua-cam.com/video/YSuoW8MTbZY/v-deo.html
No..Roger Glover was on bass and still is 51 years later.
@@ponytrekker8996 That's the last time I trust wikapedia. The truth is after Ian left I discovered the Allman Brothers Band and was kind of attached to them until Duane was killed, then it was Lynyrd Skynyrd until their tradgedy. Then I stopped having favorites as it seemed like I was bad luck.
As far as Deep Purple went I knew the other four but never really knew who the bass player was. It just seemed like the bass player was a poor lost soul in that configuration of the band.
The 70s. Long on musical talent, short on hair products.
Back then it was considered rude to make noise during the performance. That's all.
It was all about the music
Great video. Thought you reacted to this song already. Can u please react to Natalie merchant. Song, carnival.
The singer Ian Gillian left the band to star as Jesus in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ superstar. Deep Purple went on to do songs like Smoke on the water, Woman from Tokyo, Space Truckin and toured through the early 2000's at least. Child in time is an absolute bitch to play lead guitar & sing to.
Gillian was part of Deep Purple when they released Smoke on the Water, Space Trucking and Woman from Tokyo, I think the Jesus Christ Superstar was just a project he took on while he was part of Deep Purple. DP mark 2 broke up in 1973 I think and reformed with Paice, Lord and Blackmore adding Coverdale on vocals and Glenn Hughes on bass...still really good band with songs like Burn and Stormbringer but DP mark 2 is my favorite version of Deep Purple....there is no album better than Machine Head or the live album Made in Japan which is the live version of Machine Head.
Why do you have Jam on your forehead?
Very odd reaction for a vocalist, to be honest; the use of both pitch and emotional range is very impressive.
Can you sing that high? I bet you cant
And you're laughing at his hair
The video/sound is lagging, girl.
Back in the dat you listened to the music before you went ya that's good!
Deep purple only had one problem in their career and it was led Zeppelin
Your audio and video are off they’re not working together
I don't get why are reaction videos so often out of sync with the sound...I mean the music video.
Sober ?
One minute! And thats all, I can listen to this s*it.
impossible to watch a performance like this when the audio is that far out of sync with the video
Sure the hair in the 70s was, I do not give a shit about that kind of stuff, Protest wars and stuff , Bullets flying ,,...
