We built one ourselves using your brilliant design. We will be using ours for leaves and branches and it is 6 feet wide by 10 feet long. We used square tubing instead of the pipe and used a bigger winch with a double pulley for slower up and down. I wired the power and controller to the quad that we are using so we don't have to get off the quad to unload. Thank you so much for this!!!!!
Man just came up with this idea too. Only difference is I will run the cable up to the front of the trailer around a few pulleys and also use it to drag items onto the trailer by disconnecting it from the lift mech. Good to see it will work!
Absolutely brilliant idea and so simple. I'd use a bigger pulley or multiple pulleys with multiple cables. I imagine lifting a ton with that one cable and pulley could be a bit stressful on that current cable and pulley. But hey, solid pat on the back, credit where credit is due. That just earned a beer at the pub !
Its just great. Not as daft as you look!. No- kidding. It really is great that you came up with a novel idea and it is a lot lot cheaper than a hydraulic. You'll never be stuck to create. Thanks for posting.
So Kris, at the time I viewed this you had 1573 subscribers, the video was viewed 39618 times and only received 404 likes and that's including mine. What's wrong with these viewers. This is an awesome trailer, your own design and your labor to build it. Great job Kris. I find your channel straight forward, real, and interesting. Thank you for showing us the many skills you have developed over the years and thank you for keeping me entertained.
This is exactly the dump mechanism design that I want to build. Some type of hinging leverage underside to pull with the winch. Had not thought of a scissor design. Good work.
Really really cool concept and an excellent excecution. There's one thing I think would be beneficial. You really need some kind of safety catch to take the strain off the cable and to catch if it snaps.. With the ingenuity, you've shown here I have no doubt that you will come up with a solution. I would like to see some kind of ratcheting system so that the bed is supported the whole way up. Nice!!
Absolutely perfect, i have 2 boat winches so can afford to use one I was trying to come up with a method but thought "youtube" and here is one great idea. big thanks for sharing.
That's some perfect Newfie engineering. Hello from New York, USA. I just subscribed. Planning to do something like you did here with the bed of an old pickup I've got. My dad's from Port de Grave and we've been back to the island several times- definitely the best place on God's green earth! Be well. Thanks!
Great idea! I'd be concerned about the strength of the cable myself. I know the 1/8" cable on those winches do not support what they're rated at. Like you stated, I'd stay back when dumping. If that cable breaks, it's going to come down in a hurry!!
Very cool build. Just this week I demolished an old hunting trailer that’s been sitting since 1989. The useable box frame is 14’ 7” X 7’ 4”. I plan on adding another axle and building a dump bed. I like your idea but I plan on using mine for 3 tons of gravel hauling so I will need to go with a hydraulic set up unless I can find a manual set up that will lift the weight.
Dude that is great...use what ya got...I am totally going the steal that idea for my yard work trailer ..with your blessing of coarse...lol...Thanks for sharing
What I think is you're a badass good job man. You're not exactly delivering material with that thing but that's definitely an upgrade that was worthwhile
Very cool lift mechanism. Thank you for sharing the idea. I've catalogued it in the 'ol cranium. I think if I go that direction however, I'll use an electric driven screw scissor jack, as I feel it would have a much safer failure mode.
Here in New England ( Massachusetts ) that's called Yankee ingenuity, Great job making something out of nothing, In the 1st few seconds of your video when I saw the scissor jack I thought it had a Giant Screw like a car jack, This is great though with the cable and winch !!
GOOD JOB AND I LIKE YOUR LIFT IDEA!!?? IT HAS SIMPLIFIED THE DUMP MECHANISM ON THE TRAILER WE HAVE DESIGNED TO DUMP ROCK N SAND!! AMERICAN INGENUITY!! PRACTICALITY/SIMPLICITY IS WHAT I TRY TO INCORPORATE IN OUR BUILDS. THANKS!!?
Very nice build. Depending on the flexibility of your cable, that pulley diameter seems way small for that bend, but it doesn't look like it's kinking.
Kris, congrats on another great project and another great video. You are a talented and ambitious fellow. Busy Bayman is sure the right name for you Buddy, you're always doin' something. Have a great day, Paul
Love your dump system I got a dump bed on my Dodge 02 I don't have hydraulics yet now I don't want hydraulics I'm going to have what you got thanks for the video
Nice engineering. I'd reinforce all the welds when you get time. Some 45 degree cuts on the cross member supports might help too by adding more weldable surface. As money and time permit, I'd look to replace the wood floor and front wall with steel at a future minimum, and not worry about the wood sides since they'll work fine for most jobs.
Brilliance - excellence or distinction; conspicuous talent, mental ability. I am a new PERMINATE subscriber, talk later gota go warm up the Lincoln singing the dump bed song this morning. Happy, Happy, Happy. mike&gina in Tennessee, in love, in Christ
That's a really good piece of engineering! Be careful with the welds on that galvanized iron. I think I would have used larger pipe in the scissor lift, but depending what you're hauling you should be ok.
Tremendous - both the design and the build. You could detach the winch cable from the lift mechanism and repurpose it to hoist lumber onto the trailer for loading too.
I dumped my diy 1/2 yard cement mixer in a simliar way, however I did not use a scissor, I just used a single arm and pulled it back with a hand winch at the bottom of it, so it swung down and rolled on the ground lifting the cement. It only worked once there is some leverage on the arm, so it had to be designed to give it that which limited a bit the rise. Nice job on your design.
very nice... you sure are one handy fella brother...2 days of enginering sure paid off...You lived around here by me there would be people knocking on your door to make one for them also...good stuff Kris...
Interesting design. I've got one problem with the setup that it seems other commenters have not covered. A scissor jack lifts straight up. But the point where your jack contacts the underside of the bed does not. As the bed rises, the contact point is also moving to the rear. This may bind the jack and, more importantly, put stress on the top and bottom weld joints. As a mod to your existing setup, I would find a way to weld a base connecting the two lower hinges together. Then weld a hing to your new jack base and the frame member. This would allow the jack to pivot with the backward swing of the bed and maintain load alignment from the head of the jack straight through the base. Otherwise, great build! Gives me some ideas on a couple of smaller projects I have around here.
Not exactly. The pivot points at the bottom of the scissors pivot so the entire scissor can more forward and back albeit not a great amount but sufficient for the arc of the bed. Check the video at 3:06. Cheers
Assuming that equal weight will be maintained where the cable meets each scissor, each scissor will operate at a slightly different speed. The forward one will straighten slightly more than the rear one when raised.

Thats actually quite brilliant
The need to constantly to create without investing a lot of hard earned cash. The thinking man's engineering. Love it.
that's how I roll, lol
Necessity is the mother of invention
Just picked up an old pop up camper and was looking for ideas! Yours is perfect! I'm glad you did this and posted it.
Man just came up with this idea too. Only difference is I will run the cable up to the front of the trailer around a few pulleys and also use it to drag items onto the trailer by disconnecting it from the lift mech. Good to see it will work!
Brilliant, I'd use a bigger cable & a few more pulleys for heavier loads though.

thanks for the kind words I wish I hurry up and get famous too, lol thanks for watching
Brilliant! You're always thinking of something cool to make. Cheers, Jen.
Very neat. I've been tossing the idea of building one myself, but never have I seen one quite like this! Good stuff buddy
Now that is an interesting design! Much easier on a budget too. Take care. Doug
Thank you. That was great engineering on your part. You did a great job. Keep up the good work.
Well done Kris, loving the projects your making... Keep them coming
That’s an amazing idea. Great ingenuity and skills. I would like to get some closer ups of it, and then I can try to do that with mine!!!! Thanks!
im a former wrecker driver and also use to build dump trucks had a very similar idea but opted to use 12volt trailer 3500 lbs jacks instead
This is exactly the dump mechanism design that I want to build. Some type of hinging leverage underside to pull with the winch. Had not thought of a scissor design. Good work.
Very smart that is an awsome alternative to the way ive seen winch dump trailers..... good job bud!!!
Awesome set-up, thanks for sharing this video.

I like it! Been thinking of doing something with no hydraulics like this. Thanks for the great idea!
great trailer. I am looking to build one and didn't want to use the hydraulics. this is perfect Thank You for sharing.
Absolutely perfect, i have 2 boat winches so can afford to use one I was trying to come up with a method but thought "youtube" and here is one great idea. big thanks for sharing.
God, that's slick! I have absolutely no use for anything like that, but now I want to build one too : )
Great idea! Perfect for dumping light loads of brush, yard debris and maybe a yard or 2 of bark and maybe 1 or 2 yards of gravel.
Pretty cool Kris. Works like a Boss!

Just a super idea, great job my friend. I always say we don't have to buy everything, great ideas come from fabulous minds.

yeah.Wire rope could cut a person in two

Great job. I love the simplicity of this vs hydraulics.
Another project well built, nice job!
Wow. That's pretty cool! Good job! Trailer like that would come in handy for a lot of things I'd say.
That is freaking awesome, thanks for sharing, I have made one for my trailer, the only change was dual pulleys, works great.
Hi . Do u have any pics of.ur trailer and lift mechanism and how much does it lift plz
Interesting design. Very easy for you to add a couple extra pullies to the cable run in the scissor if you need more lifting capacity too.
I was about to suggest a 3 to 2 tier block and fall. That would really improve the mechanical advantage , especially if he had to use the hand crank
Es b’y she’s a beaut should work fine 😊😊
so how has it worked out? will it lift a reasonably heavy load? would love to see it in action.
great job on the engineering.
I think the load would depend on the size of winch you use.
Really Nice and Smart design., Congratulation
Dude that is great...use what ya got...I am totally going the steal that idea for my yard work trailer ..with your blessing of coarse...lol...Thanks for sharing
lol of course steve
What I think is you're a badass good job man. You're not exactly delivering material with that thing but that's definitely an upgrade that was worthwhile
Ingenious design, Great job
Thanks very nice. Scissor lifts are great. I really like the idea.
Looked great & worked great...thumbs up from me!!!
Very cool lift mechanism. Thank you for sharing the idea. I've catalogued it in the 'ol cranium. I think if I go that direction however, I'll use an electric driven screw scissor jack, as I feel it would have a much safer failure mode.
That is exactly where my head is going. If that cable breaks, your tailgate, anyone in line or underneath could get hurt.
One of the best videos ive watched today, besides andrew camaratas todays video.
Great utilization of resources. A great re-purpose effort!
Ingenious design. Good job.
Great job and ingenuity!

Great simple design and it looks so good.
Great Job ! would love to see how mutch Rum! and beer box drawings it took to figure the math out on that!
Awesome engineering. Very slick. My respects. Tip my hat to you my friend.
Hell yeah man hope you had beer or two you earned it
GOOD JOB AND I LIKE YOUR LIFT IDEA!!?? IT HAS SIMPLIFIED THE DUMP MECHANISM ON THE TRAILER WE HAVE DESIGNED TO DUMP ROCK N SAND!! AMERICAN INGENUITY!! PRACTICALITY/SIMPLICITY IS WHAT I TRY TO INCORPORATE IN OUR BUILDS. THANKS!!?
Just awesome....gotta hand it to ya...
I like your attitude brother God bless your soul. Keep on 👍
Great work brother
Fantastic you've shown me the way!
Awesome design, just keep in mind if that cable snapped it could easily kill someone, careful.

+Out o' the house with Paul thanks paul
Good job bro! That’s amazing!
Love your dump system I got a dump bed on my Dodge 02 I don't have hydraulics yet now I don't want hydraulics I'm going to have what you got thanks for the video
Pretty damnnnn innovative 💡!! Bravo 👏 👏 bravo
Pretty slick! I like it!
Great job mate. Cheers
I Love it! Nice work.
That some bad ass engineering backyard work...
Nice engineering. I'd reinforce all the welds when you get time. Some 45 degree cuts on the cross member supports might help too by adding more weldable surface. Definitely a nice trailer bud .
outstanding, well done sir!
Nice and simple nice work

good job!!! I make te same trailer... from france!!!!
Tremendous - both the design and the build. You could detach the winch cable from the lift mechanism and repurpose it to hoist lumber onto the trailer for loading too.
Man, could I use a dump trailer.....sweet design!
Great idea brother ! ! !

fantastic job! I love your lift mechanism.
thanks
been thinking about building a dump trailer myself yours is the best I have seen so far great job
thanks, been using her a while now its a awesome unit
Nice job...
Very smart
nice job! looks good!
Wow, you save at least $1500 with that scissor lift looks like it works pretty good , like it good job my friend 👍.
Another great build.
Great job man!
Nice job man. Pretty cool
Nice shootin' Yukon...👍
Super job thumbs up very smart
Subbed for the accent and good ol’ diy engineering!
That is a great job!
That is very cool. I have seen a few pickup trucks here lately that dump, Would come in very handy for sure.
I use it a lot a great addition to the tool box
Smart, nice job!
i have made a good few trailers before ,,,, BUT thats the best i have seen yet ,,
thanks man
Nice work! Looks handy
very nice... you sure are one handy fella brother...2 days of enginering sure paid off...You lived around here by me there would be people knocking on your door to make one for them also...good stuff Kris...
