Wearing heals to a polo match is a giant No No - not for fashion reasons, but because any holes in the grass can cause a horse to trip, hurting horse and/or rider. When I was a kid, my aunt dated a polo player, and between plays, the kids would be sent onto the field to push any clumps of dirt back into the holes to smooth the field out.

I agree with all your observations. Except the last dress. I agree the dress looked flattering on her. The shoes though. Ankle straps visually shorten her lower leg area and give a faux shape to her scrawny ankles and chicken legs/calves. She has an unfortunate body shape. Unfortunately it won't improve with age. Im a petie hourglass with a defined waistline. Now that im 47 I've noticed im gaining all over more. I admit i weigh 20 pounds more than I did in my 30s. So perhaps that is it. Anyhoo perimenapaus and menopause thickens our waistline. I am 5'4 135 pounds, slightly short waisted as well. With broad shoulders. Before my breast augmentation I looked more pear but the implants gave me a more hourglass shape. I do regret going so large with the implants. 500cc's. At the time I got them really big fake breasts were in style. It's been a blessing in some ways. My underarm back fat is no longer visible because of them. It also gave me the opportunity to gain weight. I always felt I needed to be underweight to balance out my small breasts. I cant stand Meghan markle, but I do feel bad for her terrible body shape. In the South we call those shorts a “split skirt”. But nowhere in the world, in my opinion, tall skinny heels don’t go with shorts. A wedge or flats would have been more appropriate.
In the UK we call them SKORTS for skirt/shorts . I actually think the clothes she wore in Australia, and those areas , were absolutely the worst !! Miles of material, while trying to project pregnant belly ...honestly ...

This interested me because, like Meghan, I have long arms and legs and a short torso. It is a shape that’s hard to dress, and the high-waisted trend of the last 5 - 6 years is a nightmare! The waistbands come up over my boobs. I NEED a mid rise just to look “normal.” I would never have chosen any part of that polo outfit, but honestly I didn’t even notice at first because of the tsunami of secondhand embarrassment I felt over the trophy disaster. 🤦🏼♀️

Believe it or not a low rise comes slightly low to my natural waist - perfect for balancing out my short waist. I've had to resort to having my trousers and jeans made for me by a seamstress.
I have the same shape and used to wear A line and drop-waist dresses as those flattered me. I have trouble finding those dress styles in stores or in catalogs today.

She didn't play "capture the prince" but let him find her. And the prince was so kind. He could have done a cattle call and make the women all try on the glass slipper in public, but he went house to house, so no one had to witness any of the women failing to fit into the shoe.

The shorts for lunch with Gloria Steinem looked like she could have gotten them at The Gap or J Crew for a fraction of the price. It's crazy that it's designer and cost that much for things that are so basic. It's like she spends to remind all of us of how rich she now is, and that isn't a good look.

Polo match - High stilettos are definitely wrong for a polo match. Those wide shorts make her look even boxier. It was just for the players to celebrate their triumph, wives not included. Waistlines - if you don’t have a defined waistline, stop using strings and bows around them.

Harry’s royalty doesn’t compensate for her loose woman vibe. She prefers sexy to chic but looks like a floosy. And what is it with the white shirts with rolled up sleeves. They look like school uniform and she looks like she’s about to tackle the washing up. Not at all attractive. Reminds me of my youth just post war. The only clothes we had were school uniform and we tried to adapt them into something fun and attractive, probably looking like what we were, kids trying to look grown up.
Perhaps one of the problems with the black maternity skirt, with the “awkward” slit, is that M has an ungainly walking style, tending toward much-too-lengthy strides (possibly to always position herself ahead of H?). I’ve noticed this also often makes her heels look too high and ill-proportioned for her height. I’ve also noticed that she frequently stands with her legs apart (eek) ~ and all these undainty habits in walking/standing contribute to a general lack of femininity in her overall look! I agree - she stands like a man; very unfeminine. Another thing that doesn't help her is her wearing contrasting belts which make her lack of a defined waist worse. I too have a boxy figure, and I rarely wear belts, and when I do, they match the color of the dress or slacks to lessen its effect.
I think the greatest problem with that skirt is that the front pieces cross over, left to the right side of the skirt, right to the left side of the skirt. It adds fabric at the waist/belly and creates an odd pull because it is straight/tulip cut. Had the skirt been more flowy and fuller I think it would work a little better. I think she considers herself well versed in fashion, but seems to find expensive pieces that just look odd on her. Her natural style seems to be jeans, flats, t-shirt and short waist jacket.
Well wearing 4" heels as she was pregnant was awkward enough, but I suspect she wanted to wear those shoes come hell or high water. The outfit just didn't fit her well. Period.
I'm a thin hourglass but I use my natural waistline, anything else looks odd on me. I'll never forget the time I bought a gorgeous drop waist dress, omg it looked like a sack on me. I'm also short but I found a good tailor a few years ago it saved me so much time She ( MM) has no idea about social cues I'm enjoying your show. I worked in live television for 2 years and also doubled as stylist for a couple of our ** problem ** regulars. You know your stuff !
With the white shirt and black skirt moment I think MM was trying for a Sharon Stone moment (1998 Oscars). Of course, she doesn't have Stone's tall frame and well-balanced proportions, nor Stone's insouciance, so it was a miss (which had nothing to do with her pregnancy). I think she studies '90s icons like Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and Stone, but she's working with harder proportions and she's not, as the French say, easy in her skin (bien dans sa peau) like those women.
Regarding those navy Bermudas with the white shirt - the major style solecism is the high heels with shorts. Stylish, chic ladies never ever wear high heels together with shorts.

It had been hidden from EVERYONE and Staff to not speak regarding H attacking the Horses and beating them. One pregnant Mare died. He is banned from the California Polo Club. His attacks in the UK were covered up.

The polo game suit--absolutely no one dresses like that outside during the day in So Cal--no one. People wear hats because it is sunny, and straw hats, but more appropriate for outdoors and walking around. This is where everyone eats tacos and goes to the dog beach, young and old. LIved there forever and I have never seen anyone dress like that during the day for an outdoor game when it is hot. She is from LA--I do not know what she is thinking. I think Harry’s wife is totally out of her element and doesn’t understand the assignment. She used to dress in a really tacky, cheap in appearance way… so when she married up, she was up-jumped fashion wise and she was just so lost on what to wear. She doesn’t dress appropriately. I don’t know why when she has all the money and resources and Harry’s connections, why she can’t get it together and dress well.

I LOVE wearing a slip! I grew up in the 50's and 60s, and we all wore slips. Plus my Mom was a seamstress, so we didn't dare NOT wear a slip. It makes a huge difference by helping how your skirts and dresses lay on you. Plus we had such pretty ones. I've always sought out beautiful vintage slips to wear, and have a lovely collection to choose from.

Great tips! I have the boxy torso thing, too. I don't think the super high skinny heels help her look, either. They add length and skinniness to already long, skinny legs. Those cut off jeans Katherine had on would look good on Meghan because they'd make her legs look shorter. One observation: some of these fashion blunders were likely created by cheap clothes. Like the white blouse over the black maternity skirt that was gaping at the neck. That's how an inexpensive blouse - I'm guessing that's rayon with some elastane in it - wears. It stretches awkwardly and doesn't hold a press so the collar wilts like that. She's still buying clothes off the rack, and it isn't working.
I doubt it was an inexpensive white shirt. I also don't think anything less than a designer label would be allowed to touch her skin. She wore a white Givenchy shirt at Wimbledon with that awful pleated skirt, and it was a disaster. Unfortunately for the designers she chooses, she can make one of their designs look very poorly constructed, and cheap. She doesn't seem to have the sensibilities needed to make an outfit work for her. I think expensive, designer labels, and copying Princess Diana are all considered when making a clothing choice.

MM too often wears clothes that seem to smother her. Too chunky or bulky in some ways. She does not have a long torso or much of a waist line. And she seems to orient too much around what she has so little to work with.
The polo outfit looked like a child playing dress up, and the white/black pregnancy outfit-i get what she was going for, but she failed. The skirt sat weirdly on her, like cut off her belly. Yup! And if you notice, her performance outfits were always one-piece dresses (mini, of course) that would skim, not cling to her body. If she wore pants, the blouse was open really low and the pants would cut off at or above the ankle to shorten the leg. The blessing of the short torso is that our legs are usually great. LOL

This is such an interesting video. I too, have the "bar fridge" body shape going for me. I cannot wear dresses because of the way they hang on me I end up looking like a tank. Dark seperate tops and bottoms work best for my shape. If I wear a belt, it has crept up to my boobs by the end of the night 😂
I just looked up her wardrobe on Suits, so she can clearly listen to stylists but she didn't want to follow the royal style rules. I think the best outfits I ever saw her in was that green leather skit and green top. It looks like it could have been taken from her Suits character closet and if she had stuck to those types of clothes then she would be an actual style icon instead of wannabe style icon. Dress impeccably and people remember the woman; dress shabbily and people remember the dress. A fitting quote for Meghan from the Queen of all style: CoCo Chanel.
I don’t think pleated skirts look good on everybody, especially apple bodies. Pleats, particularly knife pleats on an apple can make you look dumpy, like you have a inner tube around your waist. I’m an Apple, btw 😉
I'm glad that you have explained this as I have trouble adjusting to my new body. I had an hourglass figure before and if you saw me from the front, you would say that I still have that hourglass figure, but if you looked at me from the side, you'd see that my abdomen is even wider than my breastline. Due to a medical emergency and surgery, you could describe my body as 'thick' not wide. How can someone fix this to make me NOT look so thick. I wear clothing that hides my mid-rift if you get what I mean. What would you recommend? Thanks for your channel. @@denisehenry3427 That's stupid AND cruel. When you're short and have several children, especially several, your abdominal muscles are often stretched beyond repair. My abdominal muscles were actually separated horizontally, leaving a permanent indentation around my middle. Exercise doesn't help, either. I barely noticed the indentation until I started pilates; toning my midsection just made it a lot more obvious. So until you've experienced several full-term pregnancies as a petite woman, you have no right to make comments since you're ignorant.

I was raised to understand that tight is tacky. Lauren Bacall’s mother told her to go bigger rather than smaller, looser clothes look richer! I don’t get the trend of pregnant women wearing skintight clothes. To me it somehow shows a disrespect for the little Miracle in there. And basically it’s tacky tacky tacky.
Well, my Beebs, hurrah!, Coronation Day tomorrow. Plan to be up at 4:30 ack emma. Now then the polo outfit really did it for me. You do a great job on the technical details but her BIGGEST problem is, in my opinion, that she does what I call 'oppositional dressing'. She asks herself, 'will people notice me?', and 'will they notice me first?'. Then when people say she looks like a dog's dinner, it's 'I'm too sophisticated, too with it', 'too above them'! That black hat & glasses both drew attention to her pointed nose and pointed chin, very witch like, which I hadn't even noticed before. She was overdressed, look at the people around her & she kept the other women off the podium with some random, trumped-up reason I can't even thank God, remember! Those shoes were too dressy, at sporting events, we're not talking about Ascot here, the rules are sandals, wedges or flats to keep your heels from digging into the grass. I've NEVER seen her get a pair of shorts right but then see 'will they notice me first' rule. Had she worn the red/white polka dot dress& forgone the Olive Oyle sandals she could have been so much more attractive. I'm short everywhere. Agree about sleeves, can make short girls look to dowdy. I shorten blouse sleeves by sewing about a 3" to 4 " piece of skinny elastic, I stretch it and sew it on to the seam from top of sleeve towards the elbow. Then I resew the button so the cuff fits my wrist perfectly. Makes the sleeves poof a bit. GAME CHANGER for me. Also I sew some sleeves to a rolled up place I want them, and sew them there just like you described. Thx for great ideas.

There was one other woman at the polo match (not in these photos) who was wearing a very flattering black polka dot dress. Seeing her next to the Markle disaster looked like a "who wore it better" type magazine photo.
If you need height at a polo match, wear wedges. I am also 5’6” and my fiancé is 6’3” so need the height. That outfit is not a successful polo match outfit at all. Shorts were ok but the belt and shoes don’t work. FYI, my fiancé advises me on correct polo outfits, he was an excellent player when younger and once beat King Charles in a match.

Wearing heals to a polo match is a giant No No - not for fashion reasons, but because any holes in the grass can cause a horse to trip, hurting horse and/or rider. When I was a kid, my aunt dated a polo player, and between plays, the kids would be sent onto the field to push any clumps of dirt back into the holes to smooth the field out.

I agree with all your observations. Except the last dress. I agree the dress looked flattering on her. The shoes though. Ankle straps visually shorten her lower leg area and give a faux shape to her scrawny ankles and chicken legs/calves. She has an unfortunate body shape. Unfortunately it won't improve with age. Im a petie hourglass with a defined waistline. Now that im 47 I've noticed im gaining all over more. I admit i weigh 20 pounds more than I did in my 30s. So perhaps that is it. Anyhoo perimenapaus and menopause thickens our waistline. I am 5'4 135 pounds, slightly short waisted as well. With broad shoulders. Before my breast augmentation I looked more pear but the implants gave me a more hourglass shape. I do regret going so large with the implants. 500cc's. At the time I got them really big fake breasts were in style. It's been a blessing in some ways. My underarm back fat is no longer visible because of them. This interested me because, like Meghan, I have long arms and legs and a short torso. It is a shape that’s hard to dress, and the high-waisted trend of the last 5 - 6 years is a nightmare! The waistbands come up over my boobs. I NEED a mid rise just to look “normal.”

Believe it or not a low rise comes slightly low to my natural waist - perfect for balancing out my short waist. I've had to resort to having my trousers and jeans made for me by a seamstress.

For a self proclaimed independent female, she is extremely clingy. Her status is because of who she married.
Harry’s royalty doesn’t compensate for her loose woman vibe. She prefers sexy to chic but looks like a floosy. And what is it with the white shirts with rolled up sleeves. They look like school uniform and she looks like she’s about to tackle the washing up. Not at all attractive. Reminds me of my youth just post war. The only clothes we had were school uniform and we tried to adapt them into something fun and attractive, probably looking like what we were, kids trying to look grown up.
Perhaps one of the problems with the black maternity skirt, with the “awkward” slit, is that M has an ungainly walking style, tending toward much-too-lengthy strides (possibly to always position herself ahead of H?). I’ve noticed this also often makes her heels look too high and ill-proportioned for her height. I’ve also noticed that she frequently stands with her legs apart (eek) ~ and all these undainty habits in walking/standing contribute to a general lack of femininity in her overall look!

I agree - she stands like a man; very unfeminine. Another thing that doesn't help her is her wearing contrasting belts which make her lack of a defined waist worse. I too have a boxy figure, and I rarely wear belts, and when I do, they match the color of the dress or slacks to lessen its effect.
I think the greatest problem with that skirt is that the front pieces cross over, left to the right side of the skirt, right to the left side of the skirt. It adds fabric at the waist/belly and creates an odd pull because it is straight/tulip cut. Had the skirt been more flowy and fuller I think it would work a little better.
I think she considers herself well versed in fashion, but seems to find expensive pieces that just look odd on her. Her natural style seems to be jeans, flats, t-shirt and short waist jacket.
Well wearing 4" heels as she was pregnant was awkward enough, but I suspect she wanted to wear those shoes come hell or high water. The outfit just didn't fit her well. Period.

With the white shirt and black skirt moment I think MM was trying for a Sharon Stone moment (1998 Oscars). Of course, she doesn't have Stone's tall frame and well-balanced proportions, nor Stone's insouciance, so it was a miss (which had nothing to do with her pregnancy). I think she studies '90s icons like Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and Stone, but she's working with harder proportions and she's not, as the French say, easy in her skin (bien dans sa peau) like those women.

I LOVE wearing a slip! I grew up in the 50's and 60s, and we all wore slips. Plus my Mom was a seamstress, so we didn't dare NOT wear a slip. It makes a huge difference by helping how your skirts and dresses lay on you. Plus we had such pretty ones. I've always sought out beautiful vintage slips to wear, and have a lovely collection to choose from.
There she is pulling Harry by her leash! Trying to kiss the polo players was trying to control them! She reached for the trophy and they kept it out of her reach! Good that they did that!
Great tips! I have the boxy torso thing, too. I don't think the super high skinny heels help her look, either. They add length and skinniness to already long, skinny legs. Those cut off jeans Katherine had on would look good on Meghan because they'd make her legs look shorter. One observation: some of these fashion blunders were likely created by cheap clothes. Like the white blouse over the black maternity skirt that was gaping at the neck. That's how an inexpensive blouse - I'm guessing that's rayon with some elastane in it - wears. It stretches awkwardly and doesn't hold a press so the collar wilts like that. She's still buying clothes off the rack, and it isn't working.
I doubt it was an inexpensive white shirt. I also don't think anything less than a designer label would be allowed to touch her skin. She wore a white Givenchy shirt at Wimbledon with that awful pleated skirt, and it was a disaster. Unfortunately for the designers she chooses, she can make one of their designs look very poorly constructed, and cheap. She doesn't seem to have the sensibilities needed to make an outfit work for her. I think expensive, designer labels, and copying Princess Diana are all considered when making a clothing choice.
She makes everything look cheap because she doesn't know what she's doing, won't take advice, and doesn't have a realistic view of her height and body shape. She's also obsessed with designer labels, whether it looks good or not. True nouveau riche.

MM too often wears clothes that seem to smother her. Too chunky or bulky in some ways. She does not have a long torso or much of a waist line. And she seems to orient too much around what she has so little to work with.
The polo outfit looked like a child playing dress up, and the white/black pregnancy outfit-i get what she was going for, but she failed. The skirt sat weirdly on her, like cut off her belly. It’s mind blowing that she considered herself a fashionista, yet can’t dress for her figure, or at all, to save her life.

Yup! And if you notice, her performance outfits were always one-piece dresses (mini, of course) that would skim, not cling to her body. If she wore pants, the blouse was open really low and the pants would cut off at or above the ankle to shorten the leg. The blessing of the short torso is that our legs are usually great. LOL

This is such an interesting video. I too, have the "bar fridge" body shape going for me. I cannot wear dresses because of the way they hang on me I end up looking like a tank. Dark seperate tops and bottoms work best for my shape. If I wear a belt, it has crept up to my boobs by the end of the night 😂

I just looked up her wardrobe on Suits, so she can clearly listen to stylists but she didn't want to follow the royal style rules. I think the best outfits I ever saw her in was that green leather skit and green top. It looks like it could have been taken from her Suits character closet and if she had stuck to those types of clothes then she would be an actual style icon instead of wannabe style icon. Dress impeccably and people remember the woman; dress shabbily and people remember the dress. A fitting quote for Meghan from the Queen of all style: CoCo Chanel.
I don’t think pleated skirts look good on everybody, especially apple bodies. Pleats, particularly knife pleats on an apple can make you look dumpy, like you have a inner tube around your waist. I’m an Apple, btw 😉

I'm glad that you have explained this as I have trouble adjusting to my new body. I had an hourglass figure before and if you saw me from the front, you would say that I still have that hourglass figure, but if you looked at me from the side, you'd see that my abdomen is even wider than my breastline. Due to a medical emergency and surgery, you could describe my body as 'thick' not wide. How can someone fix this to make me NOT look so thick. I wear clothing that hides my mid-rift if you get what I mean. What would you recommend? Thanks for your channel. I’ve been thinking the same thing! I’m short 5’2 with normal torso but short legs. 4 kids later, and my stomach sticks out, and makes clothes fit funny.

@@denisehenry3427 That's stupid AND cruel. When you're short and have several children, especially several, your abdominal muscles are often stretched beyond repair. My abdominal muscles were actually separated horizontally, leaving a permanent indentation around my middle. Exercise doesn't help, either. I barely noticed the indentation until I started pilates; toning my midsection just made it a lot more obvious. So until you've experienced several full-term pregnancies as a petite woman, you have no right to make comments since you're ignorant.

Drop-waists seemed to be pretty fashionable in the 80s. Meghan probably thinks they’re too dowdy and dated, but honestly there are some cute modern ones out there and she would so good in them.

I was raised to understand that tight is tacky. Lauren Bacall’s mother told her to go bigger rather than smaller, looser clothes look richer! I don’t get the trend of pregnant women wearing skintight clothes. To me it somehow shows a disrespect for the little Miracle in there. And basically it’s tacky tacky tacky.
Well, my Beebs, hurrah!, Coronation Day tomorrow. Plan to be up at 4:30 ack emma. Now then the polo outfit really did it for me. You do a great job on the technical details but her BIGGEST problem is, in my opinion, that she does what I call 'oppositional dressing'. She asks herself, 'will people notice me?', and 'will they notice me first?'. Then when people say she looks like a dog's dinner, it's 'I'm too sophisticated, too with it', 'too above them'! That black hat & glasses both drew attention to her pointed nose and pointed chin, very witch like, which I hadn't even noticed before. She was overdressed, look at the people around her & she kept the other women off the podium with some random, trumped-up reason I can't even thank God, remember! Those shoes were too dressy, at sporting events, we're not talking about Ascot here, the rules are sandals, wedges or flats to keep your heels from digging into the grass. I've NEVER seen her get a pair of shorts right but then see 'will they notice me first' rule. Had she worn the red/white polka dot dress& forgone the Olive Oyle sandals she could have been so much more attractive. Her behavior, well I don't want to be sniffy, I mean snippy, but it was unusual in the extreme for a 42 yr. old woman ANYWHERE.

I'm short everywhere. Agree about sleeves, can make short girls look to dowdy. I shorten blouse sleeves by sewing about a 3" to 4 " piece of skinny elastic, I stretch it and sew it on to the seam from top of sleeve towards the elbow. Then I resew the button so the cuff fits my wrist perfectly. Makes the sleeves poof a bit. GAME CHANGER for me. Also I sew some sleeves to a rolled up place I want them, and sew them there just like you described. Thx for great ideas.

There was one other woman at the polo match (not in these photos) who was wearing a very flattering black polka dot dress. Seeing her next to the Markle disaster looked like a "who wore it better" type magazine photo.

If you need height at a polo match, wear wedges. I am also 5’6” and my fiancé is 6’3” so need the height. That outfit is not a successful polo match outfit at all. Shorts were ok but the belt and shoes don’t work.
FYI, my fiancé advises me on correct polo outfits, he was an excellent player when younger and once beat King Charles in a match.
She never ties her bows on blouses. She likes to unbutton her tops so you can she her bra. It’s so weird.
THat is my greatest criticism. Why wear a pussy blouse and not tie the bow? Why wear a shirt that should be buttoned and then not button the top 3 buttons. The shirt isn't cut to do that. Drives me bananas.
