- What to wear your first time at Sandringham? Let's take a look back at two duchesses approached their first (& second!) Christmas at Sandringham with the Queen. They both were attending for the first time, and each took extremely different paths in style and behavior. It's absolutely fascinating and magnifies the contrast in messaging and personality between two different women. Plus, what last year's Royal Carols: Together at Christmas told the world & you won't BELIEVE what the Meg said about her pregnancy!

It is beyond me that a 40-something woman, who just married into the RF, would think it was appropriate to stick her tongue out at people. Whether it was aimed at photographers, or she thought she was being funny, it was and is inappropriate. Grow up woman!

As a child, my mother made sure that I wouldn't stick out my tongue, let alone now that I am older. This just goes to show how Meghan lacked good parenting (I am not judging Thomas Markle, I believe he did his best to solo parent all his children, but had her mother been a more present and disciplined mother, i think lots of things would have turned out differently for Harry and Meghan).
Catherine's winter closet is iconic. I think the dresses and coats she has worn have always been impeccable, well executed and reflect respect for the public and the institution she represents. They are part of fashion history.

Catherine is just stunning, period. She's lovely. Knowing how she's been victimized by harry and his wretched choice of wife, seeing her handle herself with such dignity and grace makes her look even better.
I think they've just made her so much more popular because they are just so horrible. I wasn't that bothered before but now I'm obsessed and just love Catherine so much.

Fun fact: Catherine had been invited to Sandringham Christmas when she and William were still engaged(they got engaged 10/2010), but she turned it down because she felt it would be inappropriate because they weren't married yet.
It was apparantly also because she wanted to spend her last ' single ' Christmas with her own family.
Catherine seems to honor & respect the long standing royal protocols! At that point no fiancee had attended a Christmas celebration!

I think Catherine wore the forest green outfit at Christmas last year as a sign of respect. The late Queen had only just died and the family were still in mourning, so to wear a bright colour might have been seen to be too overt. The forest green was muted enough to be respectful, but still invoked the spirit of Christmas.
That makes perfect sense. No doubt Fraud would have chosen to wear bright red.
Meghan thinks she adorable by sticking her tongue out.
The Sugars should be shown this. Meghan was treated better than Catherine. This is why I could never understand the accusations of being treated poorly being treated less than.
Catherine wears plum, burgundy, maroon often. It is very flattering on her.
I always like it when she has the velvet accents on her outerwear. The double breasted coat is very elegant and shows off Catherine's fantastic figure and long tampered waist.
I've always felt Markle was comfortable with being disrespectful to Catherine because Eugenie doesn't appear to like Catherine very much (in my opinion , Eugenie looks like a horribly dressed Thanksgiving turkey, but that's just me) and I could imagine she and Markle "mean-girling" Catherine. She has the grace of a Princess born where the others...not so much.
What I really like is that Zara's daughters often wear coats that Isla and Savanna Phillips have previously worn. There is great use of recycling clothes in families.

Nothing new; Princess Alexandra of Kent recalled how grateful she was for cast-off dresses from Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. Alexandra's father was killed early on in WW2 and there was no provision for his widow in the constitution.
Catherine also dresses the kids in hand-me-downs, including the "jumper" sweater Louis wore in his birthday wheelbarrow photo. That jumper was gifted to Catherine after it was worn by the son of 1 of Catherine's friends. I think Charlotte even wore Harry's old shoes, and definitely George's old shoes.
Yes, even Churchill got involved with the matter of the late Duchess of Kent's funding. Prince George was the youngest surviving son of George V and was rather wild in his youth. Marriage in 1934 to Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, a granddaughter of George I, the first King of the Hellenes and first cousin of Prince Phillip really settled him down. He was killed in August 1942 in the Scottish Highlands in a place crash an-route to inspect British Forces in Iceland securing the place on behalf of the locals and the occupied Danish crown against potential German aggression.
The Duchess of Kent was left in dire financial straits with three young children, Prince Edward who became Duke of Kent upon his father's death at the age of 6, Princess Alexandra who was 4 and Prince Michael who was a mere 7 weeks old.
Due to the fact Prince George 1st Duke of Kent died with an out of date will and economic policies which led to substantial inheritance taxes increased as a way of paying for the Second World War and liable on his estate, including the home Coppins in Buckinghamshire, Princess Marina and her children were left in a sticky wicket. The King, George VI (birth name Prince Albert), the elder brother of Prince George helped them financially and various relatives offered loans, hand-me-downs and to have the children to stay to help with costs. Royalty comes with expectations of largesse that Princess Marina could not meet for some time until her finances were put on more lasting terms after the War.
Certainly the challenges seems to have had an affect of Edward and Alexandra's character and work ethic and Princess Marina raised children who understood precisely how lucky they were and wanted to give back. Alexandra was very close to the late Queen and Edward gave up a promising career in the Army to serve in a different way. Prince Michael was so young he was probably affected differently and interestingly one of his godfathers was President Franklin Roosevelt, a choice made to help embed the special relationship during war.
Princess Marina was a working member of the Royal Family and was the royal who really embedded the relationship between the Windsors and Wimbledon, presenting the trophies to the champions every year. She died of cancer in Auguest 1968 and was buried at Frogmore alongside her husband after a life filled with drama and purpose, including having to flee Greece at 11 during one of their revolutions and having siblings and cousins overthrown in revolutions and by war elsewhere such as brother-in-law Prince Regent Paul of Yugoslavia who was with her sister Princess Olga, grandparents of the US actor Catherine Oxenberg and the Romanovs to whom she was related through her mother, a granddaughter of Tsar Alexander II.

The Princess of Wales coats, coat dresses are spectacular. They are fitted to a tee. I love that's she's not afraid of colour and always seems to get it just right. I myself are more partial to the AMAZING military style coats - they are beyond incredible.and again the fit is perfection.
The fit is everything. Catherine gets it right every time.
Catherine learned that lesson well. Tailored clothes fitted to your body shape will elevate your look like nothing else. An $100 H&M piece tailored will look like a $500 designer piece.
Yes, the military look is more befitting a royal than the Colonial look that Harry's wife prefers.

I really love Catherine’s style! In her dress and behaviour she exudes elegance and class. She has no need to grab attention because she already has it. No exaggerated grins, no enormous price tags, just authentic beauty. So lovely and a breath of fresh air!

Catherine thoughtfully wore a plaid coat on M's first Christmas, so ANY Christmasy color M would wear would have beautifully coordinated.

If Methane had gone with wine or maroon, the hat would have been fine in that color. Though a bit like a mushroom. Too much hat and coat.

@M0odyBlue Are you? Given the track record of Methane's fash fails??? 😅 As above. I thought the hat was too much and resembled a mushroom or muffin especially in the way she plopped it on her head. A vintage clothier once told me that if you aren't sure about hats, go with an accent. Keep it minimal...more than a fascinator but less than Claire Trevor, who was known for her millinery in 1940s films.

Meghan has demonstrated a combative contrary adolescent attitude combined with a great need for attention, negative or positive. On the other hand, Catherine is a healthy integrated individual who is worthy of the role and vice versa. Her wardrobe choices are gorgeous, every single time.

Absolutely!! She will never again this level of attention with anything positive attached to her for the rest of her life. She is trying to turn this level of infamy into something positive and that train has left the station. She might have a bunch of horrible stuff said about her, sure. Great gossip stuff. When Harvey Weinstein got caught being the loser he is everyone watched to see what he might do next like going to court in a walker. Within a few weeks after his permanent incarceration he was forgotten by the media, all the interesting stuff had been completed and no one cared about him. Go ahead Google him! I check periodically and every Google result is at least a couple years old. Meghan is going to try and turn her "brand" which is now "in the toilet" into something edgy that makes people understand and forgive the "rebel" which we all did with Sarah Ferguson, a whole bunch of times. But she is not an utter douche. I think she's fine. But she has to bite it and act normal for years before we were willing to let her be interesting enough to read about. Meghan will never have that happen. She's more of a Weinstein.
I read for Louis' christening there WAS a dress code...every one men and women were asked to wear a certain color, and ole meg showed up in that taupe....pale blue and white...the queen wore blue the ties were blue I think Catherine's mother wore blue, Catherine wore white which I believe she wore white at all the kids' christenings.... meghan decided she was going to get all the attention, from clanging colors to not wearing proper undergarments.
Her presence really ruined the christening photos. Everyone looks so well put together, she sticks out like a sore thumb
Catherine PoW's first outfit in plum was so amazing. I love the fun, funky hat, made even more spectacular by her beautiful hair in lose curls, swept to the side. She is an absolute ICON for elegant femininity 💞

Hicks & Brown make the best fedoras ever! She’s rocking the country lady; hunting, shooting and fishing brigade, very, very traditional. She sometimes even wears Laird hats as well as Barbour wax hats,(I’ve got one it’s years old and amazing), I guess, like me she might even have an Akubra tucked away somewhere, still a classic!
Harry and Rachel were supposed to walk behind William and Catherine but they tended to walk in front.

Agreed! Just try it! Go to the grocery store and stick your tongue out to try and emulate a look that says " I'm silly, I don't take myself seriously and I don't take this family seriously!" First, nope you cannot do that vibe with an internal appendage on external display. Catherine just has a stunning figure - and after 3 kids!! I’m sure William must be incandescent with rage right now over the attacks from MM. They need to have their titles taken away.
I think what this shows is The Princess of Wales has style and grace, listens to advice and dresses the part. Megan has none of those qualities and it shows. Love the collab, guys keep doing them!

To be fair, it was the royals personal Xmas hol time, and I've seen other royals pulling faces as well. They human and like to have a bit of nonsense fun as well. But agree it's maybe not appropriate to risk pulling fun faces, or gun sticking out of the tongue when still able to be seen by public. But not a big deal really.

meghan wore the opposite of what she was asked to wear. "Wear festive colors" megan wore dull color. "Don't wear black" megan wore black. The tan coat is all around ridiculous. Floppy large collar, long tie belt, oversize patch pockets and then wrist tucks.

Catherine looked gorgeous when she was pregnant, she dressed appropriately and didn't give away too much about her pregnancy, none of the tacky skintight clothing that Meghan wore, I can't imagine those clothes were very comfortable.
I notice in the pictures that Meghan is trying to stay half a step ahead of Catherine. Protocol demands that William and Catherine walk at least a bit ahead of those two. In another shot not shown here, you can see Meghan dragging Harry forward, though he definitely knew better.
Funnily enough it was Meghan’s coats that first made me realise she did not ‘understand the brief’. Those wrap style ‘dressing gown’ coats are far too informal for royal engagements. Unflattering as well!

Mabye because everything is so misfitting? She needs a stylist with thick skin and stamina. She has a great figure but just keep putting on baggy oversized 'stuff' nothing coheasive..
About the royal women wearing the same colour as Catherine at Together at Christmas …. My gut tells me that Zara called William and suggested a show of solidarity with Catherine and - bonus! - it would blast M’s lie out of the water. William gave her the okay and she networked with the other women. That’s how it played out in my head because I have the feeling that she cannot stand M.
Not a soul in the crowd is wearing any shade of brown either. Citizen Meghan is often the only person among the masses wearing dull, anticlimactic colors and I think she did (and still does this) because she is aware that shades of brown aren't terribly popular and odds are, she will be the standout as the only person wearing those shades of dullness. **Note King Charles is wearing a camel hair coat that he has been wearing for like 40 years so that's more of a choice of comfort vs style so not including him.
I always thought she wore 'neutrals' because she thinks they look classy and old money- both of which Nutmeg is not

the first Christmas at Sandringham for Megain, when she was wearing brown, notice as they are walking, Megain and Harry have to walk beside William and Kate, not behind as they should and there isn't enough room. Bet that was Megain's idea.

As an Australian, Catherine’s olive green outfit reminds me of a couple of iconic Australian items: the Driza-bone all weather coat and the army slouch hat. Her hat and coat aren’t really the same as these, but the overall vibe is the same, somehow. I love that she tries different things, since she has the opportunity to wear outfits that most of us would have no occasion for.

What annoyed me about This One’s Wife was that she always had her coat hanging open, very sloppy looking . At her (TOW) first Christmas Catherine was farther along in her pregnant than TOW was the next year , and Catherine managed to wear a coat that closed. You’d think that with the money TOW spends on clothing , she could … Never mind. I just answered my own question

Forest Green was Prince Phillip's colour - so maybe it was a nod to him.
Loved this collaboration! Honestly, I can't think of a look of Catherine's that I don't love!🤗🤗 I also appreciate the fact that she wears pieces multiple times & with no shame. It seems that she keeps most of her pieces! Imagine her closet🤩🤩
I'd love an excuse to wear my wedding dress again. Who WANTS to wear ALL new clothes all the time? It's so BB and "new $" of Meghan to not wear again outfits/dresses she wears in public. One would think with a "style sense" as strong as she would all have us believe she has, she would WANT opportunity to highlight her style by re-wearing an item but dress it up differently to make it look fresh and new. THAT IS RELATABLE. Isn't she and H always saying that they are so relatable?

I love Kate's green number - the rural wibe which perfectly fits to Sandringham country surroundings. And green is also great for Christmas time. And that hat - I love it. Not everybody can wear such a big statement piece so gracefully and naturally as she can.
If Rachel didn't want anyone to know about the baby, why did she constantly have to touch her "bump" or did she simply pad it for attention?

I LOVE Catherine's first Christmas outfit. That hat is amazing on her. I also really liked Catherine's outfit from 2022. I think the big hats on her look great. She's always so put together, so prim and proper, and I feel like these big hats are becoming her thing. It's a little step outside her normal. Not everyone can pull off those big hats, but with her face shape and beautiful hair, she looks stunning. I'm hoping to see her try more of these different styles like she wore for Christmas 2022.

Doria was also invited to Sandringham for the first Christmas. The Middletons have NEVER been invited to Sandringham for Christmas.....EVER. (Now their other children have been married and had children, so i can understand it now, but there were years when the Middletons could have been invited.)
Agreed but the Middleton's have each other, a beautiful home and two other children in the UK neither of which Doria has. It seems good manners at the very least that the family should invite her to see her only child at Christmas. I'm sure had Catherine's mother been in a similar position then a similar invitation would have been extended to her also. The family do have a heart and beautiful manners.

None of them were invited to Sandringham....Carole and Hubby Middleton were NEVER invited .....and Megs was invited when she was engaged.....Kate wasn't invited fro Christmas til after she was married. Definitely NOT sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander.....the star was treated like dirt, while Megs was given every advantage. Yet Kate has stood up for the crown is spite of the clear discriminatioin. Hope the Royals learned from that....
@@kittyfan Catherine declined an invitation for Christmas at Sandringham once they were engaged as she chose to spend her last ' single ' Christmas with her own family. Most divorced or step families don't spend Christmas Day together and it's incumbent on us to make the shitty choice of letting one parent down by choosing the other. Catherine and parents thankfully are not in that position. Meghan's father has two other children who could have invited him for the holidays and her mother dkesn'ty, Meghan is an only child. The RF have manners and extended an invitation to Doria so she could be with her only daughter on Christmas Day which seems the right thing to do in the circumstances. Rather like Fergie being annually invited to stay at Wood House on the estate so she could see her daughters on Christmas Day. The family are old fashioned and observe etiquette but they don't have a heart of stone.despkte what Harry would like you to believe.
@@annicecooper8105 the Wales have had to spend years switching back and forth between the Middletons on Christmas day, and Sandringham, because the Royals won't have the Middletons to the estate. Hard choices sometimes. Does Kate dump her family or the Royals? And that was AFTER she was married....there was no question of her being invited when "only " engaged. She put out the notice to save the Royals' face.
@@kittyfan oh please ! The Wales' are no different to many families up and down the country switching where they spend Christmas. Maybe the Middleton's have too and have declined the invitation to Christmas at Sandringham so they can spend it with their other children ? Who knows.

In the past few years things have been so home bound but now let’s tailor the items we love so they look like a MILLION bucks on us . 💕💕I enjoy you two so much. I wish sewing was still taught in school. Mom taught me and aside from tailoring clothes I sew all my curtains and used to sew my girls special dresses. You can save money!
I recently tried sewing clothes for a school project, now I want to learn crocheting because I heard you can make outfits from scratch.

I was watching the carol concert with my Mum when so many of the ladies wore that same deep burgundy. We were already delighted at the subtle clap-back at Methane, then realised William and Mike Tindall were both obviously 'in on the plan' because they were wearing ties of that same colour. At that point we very nearly gave a standing ovation.
It's incredible what she can do with fashion. I was inspired by her gold dress that she wore to the bond premiere to wear a gold top (that I went out and bought) and jeans when my son and I went to see the movie at the Imax. We're both huge bond fans. It was just a great day to be British and a bond fan! It was as the pandemic was wrapping up, and we'd been cooped up for months. The feel-good factor was just off the charts, and she did that with her gold dress! I love her and am so proud of her and how she reps Britain. In case you're wondering, I have NO such stories about The Meg's fashion. Lots of ❤from 🇬🇧

This is my second least favorite hat on Meghan Markle. My first is that awful white hat that she wore in church when she was pregnant with Archie. I forget the occasion that they were in church for, but the hat made her look like a nurse from the 1950s.

Megain just never knew how to step up to being a royal. She might have spent a lot on her clothes but mostly they were inappropriate, ill fitting and unflattering.

You know those photos where a kitten is looking in the mirror and sees a lion? That must be how distorted megnut's image of herself is. The difference is, the kitten will grow to be a beautiful, graceful creature. Megnut will keep looking worse as she ages into more of a beach ball with stick legs.
Harry's coat makes him look like he works in a butcher shop or a boiler room. Compare with Prince Philip's handsome wool coat, or Williams heavy wool suit coat that goes perfectly with Catherine's great outfit. Great episode!
I don't understand Harry's sartorial choices. He doesn't even dress as well as a higher government employee. In no way would I look at him and think "prince."
Beebs, I really enjoy the format of your channel because you are so knowledgeable and positive about whatever the topic is you are discussing. You have a courteous, warm and kind way of making your audience feel like we are sitting with a friend chatting around the table. Unlike some UA-camrs, who don’t want to be seen on their channels and do it the lazy way.

I don't think anyone mentioned this, but the green coat and debonair hat remind me of Robin Hood, who is a well loved character in British culture, known for wearing forest green. I know there's a hint of military style about the coat but when the hat is added it's Robin Hood and Sherwood forest to me. We had a long running very popular Robin Hood tv series when I was young in England and green always makes us think either of Ireland, the Emerald Isle, or Robin Hood. 😊 No matter what it's a gorgeous look on Catherine.

Catherine's forest green coat look is a very stylish play on British Country look I think. If that's a pheasant feather then definitely so.
I gifted myself the earrings Catherine was wearing together with the knitted vest at the 50.18 mark. They are the SHYLA Rosalia 22ct yellow gold-plated sterling-silver and freshwater pearl earrings and look divine on. They cost £57 at Selfridges and are worth every penny. This was the first time I have purchased anything a Royal has worn and I am tickled pink.
