When Marilyn Manson first became popular and parents were going crazy he said "if you don't approve of me, then why, as a parent do you allow your children to listen to my music? Either you raise your children or I will". Powerful words from a an underrated performer.

Manson always has something real to say, and his lyrics are always multi-layered. You will not fully understand a Manson song your first time hearing it. And don't think he's advocating the things he sings about, in his act he is the embodiment of all things dysfunctional, dark, twisted and corrupt. Manson is the fun house mirror in which you see the darkest of your own human nature more clearly than ever before.

      Heresy
      March of the pigs
      Hurt
A note on hurt. Johnny Cash gets a lot of credit for his cover, and he should. It's phenomenal. It also comes from a very different place. Cash's cover comes off, to me, as someone looking back on life, seeing all the pain they've caused themselves and others, that won't allow themselves to pray for forgiveness. The original sounds like an addict who just got high after a clean stretch, and the messed up headspace therein. If you've ever struggled with that demon, you know what I mean. Both are brilliant, and worth your time.

The album this song came from 'Antichrist Superstar' is one of my favorite albums of all time. It scared all the fundamentalists more than any record of my lifetime and it was powerful. With MM you have to look past the 'shock value' and read the lyrics to understand the deeper message. His music helped me (and many others) feel accepted and understood in a world that had made us feel like outcasts and weirdos. Instead of putting us down, it lifted us up. So funny how you'll hear society say MM's music causes people to commit suicide, feel depressed, etc. but that could not have been further from the truth for me. In the late 90s, it made me less depressed, much more confident in myself and encouraged me to pursue my own musical work. Some of my fav videos from MM are Coma White, The Nobodies (a song about the Columbine School shootings) and Man That You Fear. Thanks and enjoy :)

I love Marilyn Manson. You need to close your eyes and get past the persona. I’ve met him, on of the kindest people you will ever meet. He was demonized by the media because of his persona, was even blamed for the columbine murders. Watch any interview with him. He is smart and articulate. He would shock you if you talk to him. I remember in the documentary Bowling for Columbine where he was asked about his music and it influencing the murders. He said music doesn’t yell at you, or make you feel bad it’s there for you when you need it and it’s to make you feel better (sorry not the exact words). When asked what he would have done differently (everyone was pointing fingers and blaming everyone - especially him for brain washing these kids and causing them to shoot up a school) he said he would do the one thing nobody did. He would have talk to the kids. He would have simply listened to them. It was just mind blowing that while everyone just looks to blame others he had the best solution just listen. He looks like a freak but in reality he is really a nice guy.

Marilyn Manson is honestly one of the most intelligent, thoughtful and eloquent 'stars' we have right now. He is so incredibly well spoken and if you watch interviews with him, he *thinks* before he speaks, he *knows* what he's talking about (if he claims he does) and is always informed about the topic he's debating.
He did interviews with people who were openly against him, his lifestyle and music and on stations who usually painted him as the devil incarnate or at least mocked him. Always calm, collected and witty, he challenges a lot of people to think not exactly like him, but outside their usual comfort zone and pushes boundaries.
On top of that, he's humble enough to not brag about it!!! What a great mind!

Damn I love Marilyn Manson. Some people think I'm crazy for it because I'm a Christian but my faith has nothing to do with the music I listen to, what movies/shows I watch, etc. I enjoy listening to him because I love when artists make statements, like Eminem. Marilyn Manson is to Metal Rock music like Eminem is to Hip Hop. They both are "brilliant!" songwriters, incredible performers and very intelligent. Marilyn Manson's main goals in the music business was to make his presence known so he can make his statements against the hypocrisy and bullshit in the world and in this country. His other motivation was so he can be successful enough to take care of his parents so they never want for anything. He's not who many think he is because of what he does when he performs and what he's singing. Marilyn Manson is his stage persona, Brian Warner is who he is off stage.

Marylin Manson is low key lyrical genius. You need to listen to the Golden Age of Grotesque. My favorite album ever

A big point about the song is summed up by the lyrics 'something beautiful or something free'
Basically, the current ideal of 'beauty' is a really constricted box used to shame people. Or at least that's my take away

SHOCK ROCK!!!! In an interview, Marilyn said his objective with his videos and stage performance was to shock, disturb and get a reaction out of his audience. So, if this scares you ..... mission accomplished.
He's actually a pretty intelligent guy .... he knows his crowd.

Omg you need to react to the performance that Eminem did with Marilyn Manson "The Way I Am"!!! I remember first seeing Marilyn Manson reference in Eminem's song "The Way I Am".. Man, they were like big part of those childhood days.. like the controversial kings lol. Eminem was always talking about people and the media blaming them two on school shootings because of their music. It's messed up.

I had the luxury of meeting him for an interview for a radio station in Anchorage, AK. His came in no makeup so wonderful and, "in character" while on air. This man is smart, well read, and amazing as a person. Don't let the fact he was makin' bills fool you. He's doing okay. The whole thing in the band is you picked a name of model and a serial killer. He's Yin Yang all day.
