- Learn how to install a bulkhead fitting and spigot into your 55 gallon plastic closed top barrel, to make your own rain barrel or emergency water barrel.
Love the way he got to the point without telling about his life.
I was ready to cut the tops off my drums...I've been an engineer for over 30 years and the string trick is pure genius, never too old to learn cool tips! Thanks
I was going to cut the lid off but I knew somebody on UA-cam had a better solution thank you
One of the best, concise how-to videos I've seen.
Cuts to the chase, no chit- chat, the tools are accessible and common ... Simple professional explanation.
And I'll be putting my rain barrels together tomorrow.
Thank you, much.
Good god this was way easier than other people were showing. Thanks for the video!
+Doug Funk
That's Good God !
Great tip Thanks !
+Doug Funk SO happy to hear!
@@Snailmailtrucker The blue barrel that I have does not have holes that are large enough to drop the bulkhead down into the barrel, ugh.
Great instructional video. I was stumped on how to do it until now. Very clear and so simple. Many Thanks!!!
+Bob Fisher (SportfishWorld) You're very welcome!
Googled this & found your video. Wasn't till the end I realized you guys were who I bought my barrels from in the first place (SJ). Now at least I can put the spigots I bought on.
+Nat Glad you found the video! I'm sorry you weren't told about it when you made your purchase.
Charge battery, and set chuck to Drill, not screw
Thanks for the video. The bulkhead fitting and the string trick were good tips to fix my direct threaded spigot that was leaking. I tied a nut to the bottom part of the string and used a magnet to grab the nut. Worked perfect the first time!!
Freaking awesome! Brilliant. Thanks for posting. The simplest solutions aren't always the most obvious ones!
I watched your video, got the address on the site. I sent for it and it came very quickly. I got my plastic barrel and in just a few minutes after doing it the way of your video, I was ready to go....Very simple and quick. ....Thank you very much.....(The comments about your sound needing to be raised is true.....)
Thank you so much!!! I can now water my entire garden without spending any money. Your video was great!!! Thanks again.
Great this was easy institution than most folks would show. Good idea for drought conditions living in the central valley of California.
Thanks I just did two of them. I use the one and a half inch paddle bit seeing how much cheaper it was then a holesaw bit.
The first one I did came out pretty good but the second one started wandering around a little bit and I stopped before I ruined it and went and got a harbor freight 1 1/4 inch step drill bit. By the time I was done with that it actually came out better than the first one. So yeah a holesaw would probably be everyone’s best bet for this project.
yes, use the hole saw for thin material
That's great way, I was confused before how to get fermentation tank for cheap price, but now through your video I can make it.
Thanks so much broh!
What a brilliant, simple concept. Thank you!
Thanks SO MUCH for your video. Going to Lowes today to get the bulkhead fitting and the spigot. Already have the barrell. :-)
Thanks for the vlog. I was checking to see what I needed to buy, 🤔 after watching I'm ordering a couple of the spigot kits and I'm going to give it a try myself.
Just used this method yesterday. Worked great! Thanks!
Thank you so much for making this video
I hope you continue to make other great informative videos. Well done !
Thanks so much for making this video, I followed your instructions exactly. :)
I like this video, simple ,not overly complicated and it works
wow, thanks. just made my day. BTW, when your drill makes that noise it's the drill's clutch disengaging the motor. Set the clutch to the drill bit setting when drilling holes. thanks again.
+Dbarrabee01 Glad to make your day better!
Great video. Simple and direct. Thanks I will do this myself.
Great video, you made this so easy. Thanks man!
Very well made and to the point.
Thank you very much Sir.
Thank you! I’ve been stumped thinking about this.
Thank you very much....all my barrels are closed top and I could not figure out how to get the attachment on the inside...great job
EXCELLENT JOB MAN! THANKS A BIG BUNCH!!! SO EASY. :) and VERY useful.
I’ve been dreading this for days. Now that I’ve seen this I’m going back out to the shop when I get home and knocking it out!
Well crap. The bulkhead I have will not fit through the opening. 🤦♂️ I have the white barrels. I’m guessing they are smaller?
One of the OGs of DIY hack videos.
Thank you for this video! I just bought a 500 gallon tank from my neighbor who is moving. The tank has the spigot way at the base, I was trying to figure out how to get a spigot installed at about the height of a Home Depot bucket.
Simply done, thank you!
amazing idea!! Thanks for posting!!!
Thank you man...perfect...like a godsend...worked like a charm..only problem I had was that the barrel plug hole was smaller than the fitting
Excellent video. Thanks for taking the time to make life easier for us. I was about to cut the top off!!😂

Good job budd 😊
Bloody Legend mate 👍👍
Gotta love the complaints! I mean after all the guy had no choice but to take the time to record this an upload it for you to nitpick.
Thank you very much.
Excellent. Thanks.
Genius! Thanks.
I think I'm going to try it for a shower. 🚿
I would use the hole saw to score some of the way through and then finish with a sharpnknife to keep plastic swarf from getting inside
I thought this was a prank for a min, great idea!
my problem is that the bulkhead fitting does not fit thru the hole that is already in the top of the barrel
Nice camera work
Very clever!
Brilliant! Now I have to find a bulkhead fitting.
Simon99 - same here. Went to local Home Depot - they had no idea what I'm talking about.

Awesome thank you. The same trick could work on a plastic jug.
Thanks for the video! Did you say drill a 1 1/2" hole for a 3/4" bulkhead fitting? Thanks for the help
Wow legend has it, he is still drilling.
Would I be able to do this for a buffer tank if running a 4gpm pressure washer. Thank you
Ive watched several ways to get that bung in the bottom of the barrel. Like your idea best. Thanx. FYI....can hardly hear you.
Brilliant.
My bulkhead fitting came with 1 rubber fitting and 1 white hard plastic fitting. I out the rubber one on the inside, and the white one on the outside, but getting some water leakage. I am leery of tightening it too much? Ideas please!
Thankyou very ingenious .You must probe with neodimium magnet .
I'll need many steps for one Drums , it need 4 holes !. Thanks an Health for.yours !
Brilliant! Will use this for a chicken waterer!
Nice video! Idk what everyone is talking about I can hear you just fine. But uhhh are the people slamming on their brakes at 3:30 all good? They must have been going at LEAST 96K/PH
where did you bought the black linking kit and hoses? thanks
Hey what brand tapioca syrup is that? I have been looking for suppliers. I am actually using this video as a reference for tapping a barrel to dispense the actual syrup.
Cool!
Thank you! Just got my barrels now and going to make a couple! Btw what is the black thing called? Thanks!
HD Entertainment - Fire & Flo Performance Art 3/4” double threaded bulkhead
what do you do for the rain water coming in to the barrel?
Very good video. What is the outside diameter bulk firing? I went to the hardware and the have a few but are to big to go through the drum hole
ROD Sculpture Hi. You use a 1 1/4” hole saw for a 3/4” bulkhead. Thank you!
