    Thank you a lot man, perfect review.... showing the airplay and alexia turn on/off features was awesome for me. One question: when its connected to the TV, and you want to play something through air play, is it simple? The beam just start playing the music from your cellphone, and after that, it automatically connects back to the TV sound or you have to do some procedure?

    Great review Robb! Ive been eyeing this system for a while now, but my main concern is not the audio quality so much, but my wifi bandwidth. I'd want to have a beam/woofer combo in my LR, then possibly several Ones around the house (kitchen, BRs etc). My AV would be getting a DLNA or similar stream from my media server, plus I would want to be sending another stream (likely music from spotify or similar) to one or more of those Ones. Do you have any idea what kind of router and minimum downstream speeds I would need to make sure this is smooth? any experiences with drop out, latency etc?

    Great review and good information for the new user. I love ours and use a 5.1 set up in our main great room. similar to your we have 18ft ceilings and hard floors. The sub hits extremely well and is totally amazing. I came from the same room with carpet, slightly different layout and two paradigm subs and don't miss any of the expensive but larger equipment. we've since added something Sonos in every room including two play 5's in my garage. I love the fact that we have one in every bathroom too and when we have parties, I simply move them out onto the patio and set up a room with them in just a few minutes.

Great job Robb. You should be doing this professionally.

    I am looking for some kind of decent surround sound system for my living room. I am also trying to to keep it clutter free and not run too many wires. Looking at this for daily watching TV, music - is this good option? I have TV, cable box and blu-ray player. I have dedicated 7.2.4 Atmos Home theater to splurge on so trying to this set up simple.

    I have a Sony X90CH 65” in main living room along with a playbar, sub, and two one’s as rear speakers for a 5.1. I have a play one in the bedroom, a one in another bedroom, a one in the office, a beam along with two ones for rear speakers, and finally a three in the kitchen that we take out on the deck while having a cookout. Love the system, quite pricey but worth the no hassle.

    • @robb.sutton

      I would be interested in hearing one. It looks like it uses upward facing speakers to give the Atmos experience which could cause issues in vaulted rooms. I helped setup a true Atmos system in my friend's basement and where you put the ceiling speakers is very specific. I wonder if the vaulted rooms would just kill that for an all in one setup like that.

    You can get a Sonos connect device, which have audio inputs you can use from your PC and connect it to your Sonos system.
    It can also work the other way and add different non Sonos speakers into the Sonos system by connecting it to the output side on the Sonos connect unit.
    This should sort out the issues with your PC

  • @DaveTaste

    Glad they now support DTS. Just ordered the full system today based on this. Playbar, Sub and 2 x Play 1's. £1800 savings gone but worth it as I've been waiting for them to support DTS 😀 sold my B&W Panorama 2 too for cheap as I needed it and couldn't afford it unless I sold it too, so sold it for cash collection on ebay.
    Gutted as that supported DTS too, but it wasn't able to be used with the Sonos ecosystem. 😀😀😀

I’ll stick with the traditional speaker setup for my living room TV watching experience, as that provides the best sound performance to cost ratio for my taste.

    I am a Sonos fan. That said, the lack of HDMI means an inability to accept higher end uncompressed audio and a limited acceptance of mid tier audio. For me, this makes it a no go in a main viewing room. Oddly, the smaller Sonos Beam does have an HDMI. My true preference would be a pair of HDMI 2.1 inputs and one output. I really don't want to switch through my tv but want room for a video game system + Roku or 4K Blu-ray player. This Sonos combo does make a nice pick for a secondary viewing location ... but is pricey as such.

    So is this system the choice over the Bose 5.1 system?

  • @jamethogany
    @jamethogany 6 років тому

    Through the app you have control of the bass EQ and sub power. You can make the sub overwhelming. So you can get plenty of bass for that home theater for most people. You're right that it won't do quite what a good 12" behemoth will, but it takes a fraction of the space.

    • @robb.sutton
      @robb.sutton  6 років тому

      There is a lot of adjustment there. But yeah...it won't be like a full home theater sub and it can't play lower hz ranges at volume as well. It is great for the space and very heavy. What they did to keep it from vibrating really does work as well.

      Too expensive, but I still own 3 Play 5's. Best active speakers I have ever heard and used.

    Does it support Atmos and DTS X?
    How does it compare to the Samsung HW-N950 and the Sony ST5000? considering they are cheaper now.
    Is the One of any benefit? or I should go for 2 Play3 at the back?
    What's the difference between 1 and play1? :/

    • @faizaljr481
      @faizaljr481 5 років тому

      Difference between play 1 and One is,
      1.Play one doesn't support airplay (apple feature) while sonos one support this
      2. Sonos one support voice command (currently it onlt support amazon alexa. Google assistant and siri will follow through update later) but play one doesnt have voice command.
      3. Sonos one using touch controll while play 1 using physical button.
      Other than this it is all the same including the sound performance.

    Whats use of system which limits you with what tv to use, android sound can not broadcast, delay in play. Individual speakers are just OK. No better way to get pc or laptop sound come to these speaker if you need that buy another connector and does not give you option to line in karoke. Did you try any of those lol, not saying your review is good but you should mention what is missing as part of review.

    like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

    I simply don't understand. I have been looking at many reviews on youtube RE soundbars etc recently. But that biggest singe thing I notice is ..... that so many American have their TV screen placed way up over the fireplace ! Now its personal choice of course, BUT this is really the worst place to have it in respect of viewing angles and comfort. Why is this so popular, its like 6ft in the air ?
    All that observation stated, thank you for the review it was very informative though regarding SONOS

    • @ft3196
      @ft3196 4 роки тому

      I don't think it started off as a personal choice. Home builders, for whatever reason, started building homes with the idea of mounting tv's over the fireplace and it just kind of became the standard. Drives me insane.

      Number one reason I'd say is space. It's way more convenient for a lot of living room / family room layouts.. and with the mounts available today and swivel tilt/availability, distance all combined, is perfectly fine and love having mine mounted.

    No one wants chest rattling bass. Go buy a Dodge Charger, tint the windows, get two JL Audio 12 inch subs and annoy your neighbors Tight bass with a punch is better. Mass subs rattling and vibrating shit is ghetto dude. No matter if it is in a car or home theater. I’ve used Orion, Infinity subs, Legend Audio, B&W, Cerwin Vega, Bose, and many others. I prefer Sonos for its sculpted sound. Who are trying to impress? My legend Audio speakers sit in the living room unused. With my onkyo receiver. Screw those days of spending 2 grand on receivers, 2 grand on speakers. Then having to run cable, buy an amp to push these speakers. Fuck that been there done that. Enjoy your headaches I just use Sonos. Is it the best out there nope. But it’s damn good for what it is.
