    Nicely done mate. I was looking at this UJK kit last year. Then it occurred to me that as I had the Bosch fsn ofa 32 kit (with 1.6m rail), I could make an MFT/parf top with that. The rail has pin stops so the router can accurately drill at 32mm spacing - or every 3rd hole (96mm) for an MFT layout. Festool has their own similar system. Neither are cheap but if you already have them it makes sense. When I renew my top I'll do an instructional I think.

      Thats a nice bit of kit. I was looking at that myself. I might try making a router base that will fit on a track first.

      Mr Slim Guy 65
      I'm considering this because the router bit isn't centered in the guide bushing on my router. This seems foolproof.

    Hi Matt, Great job even though you did not use the 3 mm drill guide ! You have a very clear and concise approach and your videos are very easy to watch - well done. Peter

    I really like the UJK Parf guide system. One thing i noticed in the video, you didn't use the 3mm guide bushing supplied to ensure your 3mm holes were perpendicular.

      O should have read the instructions better. As the forstner bit drills at 90 it all worked out. It ended up making perfectly square cuts.

    Nice vid. Probably worth mentioning that Mr Parf himself (Peter Parfitt) intended the little UJK chamfer cutter to facilitate really snug fitting of his Parf SuperDogs which have a bevelled ring that sit right in the space and help with stability and 'uprightness' (if that is indeed a word). I've not tried any of the products yet, but shall as I think it's an advance over the Festool MFT and would look to be better then twist dog systems.

    • @Badgerworkshop
      @Badgerworkshop  6 років тому

      I did not know that was the purpose for the chamfer was for. The dogs are a really nice tight fit.

    Hi Matt. I've just bought the parff guide myself and I am debating weather to use MDF or. Plywood. How did your MDF hold up. In fairness my top won't get over used. Really enjoy your videos👍👍

    • @Badgerworkshop

      I found the dogs tight in MDF. The second bench I used PLY. I would suggest drilling some holes in a scrap of each and see what works best.

    does that mean that for the price of 150€ i can actually make an MFT Table 3 meters by 3 meters ? :D i mean even with the jig, the mdf price and some aluminium profile , it would still be cheaper than a real mft !

      There are no festool 3mx3m tables. With a table that size you would need some sort of support of scaffolding system to walk over it to get into the middle of it otherwise you would end up walking over it.
      I would also think that when you get to that sort of size you may start to see errors come into play as even smallest hole cutting problem would start to play with alignment.
      You would probably do a 2mx1m table that may also have errors in it but some body would need to figure that out.
      I do have a 3mx2m table that I got CNC manufactured and it is very accurate and good for making doors on and tables but I would not trust my self to do that and stay accurate.

    Very nice bit of kit, but i can't afford £150 on it. If i was going to do that, it'll have to be the old fashioned way i'm afraid.

      I did it by hand on my other bench. But that wont be accurate enough for what I am going to use it for.

      It would take quite a bit of time to set up, but some lengths of steel, or ally, from a steel merchants, and time spent setting up.. possible to make your own version. Measure, mark, centre punch, drill ... Would take quite a long time, but would be re-usable. Nowhere near 150 quid! But, likely a fair amount of time to get it right. Pillar drill would help, with some long supports, as per a mitre saw, + make a jig rather than having to measure repeatedly - both for using what you'd made to cut the holes, as per the kit, but also for cutting the 'pin holes' in the initial rods.

      The problem with doing the holes is keeping with right angle alignment. The guide system takes right angles into account.
      If you are going to make your own system you would need to guide rails with the holes perfectly aligned in each.
      One way to do that would be stick the two together and then drill down through them so that each hole is perfectly aligned but you still need to make sure that the holes even spaced.

    £150 ouch. Could you not have drawn a grid every 3-4 inches and drilled the holes free hand.

    • @Badgerworkshop
      @Badgerworkshop  6 років тому

      You could and I did in my other bench and that is fine if you just want to hold things down. With this system you can use dogs and tracks to make very accurate cuts but the holes have to be perfectly spaced for this to work.

  • @24revealer
    @24revealer 6 років тому

    I see your not using the drilling guide for the 3mm holes. Helps keep the holes 90 degrees to the top. Must be a few 'idiots" that are not following instructions as they are coming out with a new setup that is completely idiot proof and more complicated.

    I don't know why people buy these kits when you can buy replacement CNC milled tops for only £50

    • @Brandlin
      @Brandlin 6 років тому

      because the tops wear out and need to be replaced. replace it a handful of times and the kit pays for itself. Also you get the custom size and hole layout you want.

    • @Badgerworkshop
      @Badgerworkshop  6 років тому +2

      all good points. If you only need one top then buy one. If you are going to need to make several this this system is great. Also I do enjoy the process of doing it myself.

      If you use the tops for making perfect aligned cuts you are going to track the surface and at some point you are going to need to replace it.
      Also the system allows you to make your own top at your desired dimensions. I have at least 20 of them tops for my own person usage. My shop has many of them as well that are used in the vans. If I was to buy all of them premade it would cost many many thousands.

  • @wufflesthespider

    Or get a top CNCd with 30mm holes at the correct spacings instead, allowing you to use a 30mm guide bush and a 20mm spiral bit to make a top in a quarter of the time whenever you want on whatever you want. I'm in the SW if anyone wants to borrow one :) - the Parf system is a joke. An invention that didn't need inventing.
