I have the Tamron 70-300 f4.5-6.3 and I can say that the optical stabilisation is pretty important and not having it sucks. Sure, IBIS is better than no stabilisation at all, but it doesn't help much at these long focal lengths.
Good to know also for the travel and hiking use case. Not only when you have to react quickly to fleeting opportunities. But also when traveling or hiking or biking extra-lightweight (when doing away with a tripod carrying burden). Or when tripod usage is out of scope (e.g. in crowded cities) (or places where tripods are explicitly forbidden).
@@fourwheelerjock Just a better all around lens. The 50-400 was not as good for portraits. I really like this lens. It pairs well with my 28-75. Although I am kicking myself because they just released the 28-300 which is supposedly really good.
I got the Tamron 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di lll VC VXD lens for bird photography on my Sony A3 and A4. I do own the Sony Trinity (12-24, 24-70 & 70-200mm f2.8). I also plan to use this as a "Walking Lens". I once took a image of an eagle in flight with my Sony 70-200 f2.8 on the A4 and still had to crop but boy it was still sharp. In using this over the pass year I do not think that If I took that same image of that eagle I believe I will not have as sharp but using in closer I get the image I am look for. Would like a longer Sony lens but for the price I am satisfied for now.
Slightly more expensive, slightly slower aperture, and to me I'd rather have the 28-200mm (f/2.8 minimum) or this 50-300 (better aperatures and the 50mm minimum focus)
one thing i like from tamron is this lens is part of the unified 67mm filter thread tamron lenses. lets you buy one polarizer for as many tamrons as you can own. that and tamron's warranty is second to none.
Of course, Another sony lens while RF and Z Mount users are left in the dust. This would be a nice lens for my video work... Sony already has a million good lenses. Be nice if they focused in RF now
Sony is part owner of Tamron, so it's typical if a lens isn't immediately available in all mounts, Sony gets it first. RF might depend on Canon and what 3rd party lenses they want available.
MFD of the lens on both ends looks very odd: if it is measured right way (from focal plane) on short end it is1:2 macro, but distance at other end seems incorrect. If it measured from the front element - why bother, it doesn`t give much usefull information.
Hi Jared, at minute 7:53 the San Diego pitcher appears on the screen, which is from my community in the Dominican Republic. I would like to know if you could send me a photo of it? If it is possible of course!

It's crazy that tamron just announced a 28-300 full frame E mount as well and i really don't know which one to get. I need a long lens for wedding ceremony and I'm also looking at the 50-400 tamron because it'll never leave the tripod. I have the 70-180 but I'm running into problems where I'm at the back of a venue or church and it's not zoomed in enough.
Your “my packs are for sale” seems misleading as they’re always for sale, and seem to never been the “normally” price. If this is true, this practice would actually be breaking EU laws. It is also just a bit scummy, the sale price is the normal price. Now, you’re not targeting EU audience (although no effort is made to specifically exclude the EU audience), but I still think it is not cool.
They are on sale the first year or so they are released then they go back to the original price. Fropack 1,2&3 were once $30 on sale and now each sell individually for $50. Fropack4 will follow the same method.
@@stepheneckert4006 That doesn't change anything. It seems you're right about the pricing (checked to confirm on waybackmachine) lasting about a year, but "Normally $50" and "40% off" implies it was more expensive before, not that it will become more expensive later. The added "limited time only" further implies a temporary sale, not that the price will be low for over a year. I also don't think the "normally" price is reasonably called to be normally, as I don't expect anyone to buy these single packs for the normal price. It seems obvious to me the "normal" price only exists to push people to buy a pack. "Yours Today" is more wording that further emphasises the sale being short lived (today!) and that the sale price is personal ("yours"), even though anyone can just claim the product can be "yours today". The wording seems intentionally ambigious to trigger the brain into a "oh it's a temporary sale!" mode while also never explicitly stating the temporary nature of the price. I think it's totally fair to have an "early adopters price" or whatever it can be called, but I think it needs to be called that way. The whole page, to me, seems to be purposefully designed to be misleiding. ...in my opinion (:

That's an amazing range 50-300 mm which is great for travel, portrait, birds, wildlife photography.
I just ordered it for my Euro trip in September.
Jared sees a lens anything less than f2.8 video enthusiasm goes down by 50%.
lol true, unless it's a 500+mm
Unfortunately, I have Canon bodies..😢
Is this a lot better compared to the 70-300? I mainly wanna mount it on a tripod to record my concerts. And occasionally shoot cars and races.
considering this while waiting for a new sony 100-400 gm2

Good to know that
Neat lens

How might this compare to their 18-400 (which I shoot with) that you reviewed a while back?
It looks like the Pentax 55-300mm PLM lens. Does Tamron make that too for Pentax and rebrand it?
Will this work with my old Canon 7i ?
no
Don't even shoot Sony but I love your videos Jared! Thanks for this mate!
Wonder how a photographer can apply to shoot in the dugout?

They're basically the same lens except one is 22mm wider for an extra $100. Just depends if you want to spend that money or not.
Nice review, reviewing not just pro equipment 👍👍
Any way to adapt this to a canon R8?
