What Car? Ford Focus or VW Golf or VW Polo i would buy but not the Skoda Scala because it looks like a estate car and an a VW Golf Estate would beat the Skoda Scala.
I'd have to drive all 3 to have a valid opinion on that. But if I had to speculate, I'd probably take the Focus as it's usually the sharpest to drive. That said, the Golf would hold it's value best so maybe that. I can't think of a reason to buy the Scala. Or to sell it, actually.
I'll take a Vauxhall Astra please. For about £18000 you can get a brand new one with all leather interior, heated steering wheel, LED tail lights and front and rear heated seats.
My daughter until recently had a 2006 mk1Fabia. She loved it, poverty spec wind up windows etc... less to go wrong, never failed to start even when sat for weeks over lockdown. I have respect for Skoda’s. When I come to replace my Golf this will be on my shortlist.
Just bought one and it is a lovely car. Prefer it to my previous Kamiq without any feel of it being larger in length. The ride and cornering does seems smoother. We did have an Octavia as a courtesy car and I found fitting it in to parking spaces needed some thought. I do think Skoda still suffer from the old Iron curtain day jokes which is a pity but in many ways that sort of reputation makes them try even harder to give quality. Have had many years of entirely trouble free driving with Skoda so the reliability statistics seem valid.
Remember when some people made fun of the Skoda Brand a good few years ago?. Nowadays they - in my view - are the "Rolls Royce" of their class : the Octavia definitely gets my vote!.
Just a note, electrically powered tailgate not standard on the SE L (you said it was @4:55). It's currently a costed extra. I've been looking at one of these and was disappointed to find that out!
Love this guy's reviews always full of detail, but at the same time to the point 👍🏿 I am in the market for a new car, and this is ticking the right boxes.
I know I'm not only speaking for myself when I say that an interesting car is very low on my list of priorities! I'm not promoting my position over yours we are clearly two different markets but just in case you missed the point. As a middle-aged man with a family what I'm looking for is a reliable car that's nice to drive and looks presentable. I honestly don't know any other car manufacturer that is consistently producing a range of cars that satisfy those needs so consistently. You might find it boring but from my position I can only see this as great design!
So it is based on VW Polo underpinnings. A Polo Style is about £22,000. If you spec up the Scala SEL to match the Polo Style the price goes up to an eye-watering £28,000 (Skoda - Build your own). Before considering it do check out all the expensive options you will need.
Although this car seems very good if there is little difference between it and the Octavia i would go for the latter. I have a 150 bhp engine in my older one and it gives really good economy. I would be looking at an auto gearbox if it is still available in a years time. Who knows what the (near) future looks like ? PS are there any usb sockets in this ?
Isn't Scala the sexiest name for a hatchback I love how skoda is what volkswagen was 20yrs ago VW has gotten all upmarket and isn't a people's car anymore but skoda is the people's car
Quit comparing this to the octavia, the octavia isn't a hatchback that competes with the focus or golf, it competes with cars like the mondeo and 3 series and the superb competes with cars like the audi a6 and bmw 5 series

I wonder who's going to buy it in the UK. The Fabia is only slightly smaller (but significantly cheaper) and the Octavia significantly larger and only a bit pricier. So it's in a kind of a narrow gap between two existing models & in competition with itself. Personally. For the money, I think I could get a much better prereg or slightly used car. Perhaps a Golf?
Look at them side by side. The Scala has much more space in the boot, and a little bit more for the rear seats. It also looks sleeker than the (2022) fabia, which always ceme off as a bit... too tall.
Stylistically it is all over the place. What would I not give for a return to the shapes of the 60's: Alfa Junior, P1800, 250GT. Surely that is possible now with battery technology ?
You're right - this is one hell of an ugly car - makes you wonder whether Skoda ever bothered using customer clinics as part of the development process - I can't imagine a shape like this would score well at all if they had!
Based on the Polo... surprised you didn't say "Fabia" given that would've been a more obvious (to me, anyway) choice. Also, the 308 and Civic have a marginally larger boot than the Scala. Definitely not a bad car.
@@josefonseca1028 It shares the same polo platform before it as well as those from the audi TT. To be honest I've driven the latest the polo and there's not much noticeable difference in how it handles to the fabia.
Smaller boot than on rapid and fabia estate. Both look way better. Also there isn't that much price difference to octavia. Don't see any point in this car.
@@PerpetualTiredness Because reliability and durability, you will be happy if you do not change the turbo to 200,000 km, my advice is not to overstep with the speed if you want to have a lasting turbo, over 130 km / h in such engines is harmful to the turbine

3:12 "It's all still fairly solidly put together though" he says while getting the centre console to visibly move by like an inch side to side
my thought exactly :)
Yup, literally thought the same. Also with the screen bouncing on the move
Gaz Packer yeah, that’s pretty nerve-racking.
Looks like the info tainment as system has a crack at the top already
That kind of movement seems good to me. Seems like it's deliberately designed to flex a little, it's not like its rattling around.
Scala is the latin word for stairs. We also use this word, scala, here in Greece. The ancient greek word for scala ( stair-ladder) is climax hahaha.

At least it retains the good old manual handbrake.
Škoda will be even beter in future and less affordable, we'll see is that good move

Yes that’s true. Personally I feel like it’s a good decision. The Scala is a very nice car. :)
Hows the boot space compare to an 2011 Octavia mark 2? The Rapid felt live a yogurt pot on wheels it was awful.
Mind you taxi drivers love the Rapid
Cheap reliable roomy and capable of 300k plus in the 1.6 diesel.

That’s not a crack, that’s a reflection of the A-pillar.
At 6:16, is that the piano black lacquer coming off the top of the ICE surround already? Or is it just a poorly PDI'd Press Car?
very low quality materials and build in Skoda lately, I've read many complains even on Octavia and Superb , high level trim.
