Just got a launch edition for my Mum and will take delivery in a week or so.. We originally went looking for a Kamiq but they're sold out in Aus until 2022. Took the Scala for a test drive during hurricane conditions in Sydney the weekend before last and it handled brilliantly even through some low flooded roads near the dealership. I have no doubt it will be amazing in decent weather/conditions and for the money you get SO much more. It's no range rover, but for the money it's pretty damn plush.
In Europe, we also doesn’t have hybrid on this Scala. Some countries have a small diesel 116 ps, but it’s the only diesel engine. To be honest, 1.0 TSI 116 ps and 1.5 TSI 150 ps are the best sellers. Regarding start & stop, you have a button to disable it (it’s really annoying with DSG). You should also disable lane assist every time you start your car.
USB C has been out for years, you made it sound like it's some obscure technology, it's faster than USB A and it's the small connection on the bottom of a smartphone. Yes we would need a C to C cable
I just dropped my 2002 Ford Laser Sedan off at car repairs then Last Thursday RACV offered me a rental car in 110 TSI auto SKODA SCALA for 2 whole weeks that I had never seen or heard of before. I think it's very comfortable and easy to drive. Would like to exchange a 110 TSI manual SKODA SCALA for a test drive this Thursday for another week.
Great review - have just ordered the 1.0 liter 110 hp DSG 7-speed model (in Denmark) in the "life" trim - its a leasing model, so there are not that many options to the trim and specs, but it comes with everything that I like, exept maybe a sat nav system, but since it has Apple Car Play and I have a Tom Tom world wide app on my iPhone, its not a problem (and also a lot easier to keep the maps updated). I tried both the four cylinder 1.5 l DSG version and the three cylinder 1.0 l 110 hp DSG version before I made my decision, and while the 1.5 as you mention has plenty of power (150 hp) the lesser option is no slouch at all - not a lot of difference in terms of fuel consumption though, but some difference in price (and in the tax ridden country like mine, where cars are taxed with a 150%, these things matters !!). Btw to me the "hatch/wagon" looks remind me very much of the Audi A3 Sportback, which in my mind is a great plus !
What's the problem of USB-c plug/port? $20.00 is a big investment? Future is USB-c so congratulations in regards of USB-c faster transmission data between mobile phones and screens.
I bought a blue Launch Edition on the weekend. So far so good. Not convinced that the paddle shifters are needed on a 110kW beastie, but they are there in case you have a sudden urge for boy racing.
It's not bad looking. But it reminds me of a 10-15 year old Audi, in terms of design. The front quarter side panel looks really mismatched with the deep groove running past the doors... Where the bonnet lip extends there. Looks also better where they don't use black glass on the rear tail under the rear window... makes the boot lip look larger...
I have one, I'm in the UK, it's an alright car, although I have an annoying squeak coming from the steering column, engine is pretty good, 1.0tsi 115 (85kw?) like the bigger boot compare to similar cars (in the UK anyway)
@@snam85 yeah it's pretty good, the engine is sweet, small turbo engine, nice load of torque, couple of software issues, which were rectified with software updates, the space in the back is a lot for that class of car!
Nice, so this is a Cerato alternative? Can we get a comparison video? Edit: Ok I've already lost interest after seeing it has touchscreen climate control. They might as well legalise the use of your phone while driving if touchscreen climate control is now a thing.
What would you choose between Opel Astra Skoda scala skoda kamiq vw golf Seat Leon kia ceed kia stonic Renault captur Hyundai Elantra hyundai kona Opel Crossland x suzuki vitara ?:) thanks
Having seen them all, I guess that you get most practicality for the price (at European prices) in Scala or Opel Crossland. The others would be just your personal taste of styling etc.
@@tahsin28 It does to me. Jerky low speed behaviour and no crawling... what a PITA. DCTs make sense in a sports car, but not in something like this. Unfortunately I have crossed this off my shopping list.
Major service at 100,000 kms. I bought an MK3 Octavia RS245 wagon. 2020 build. It’s a great car with Golf GTI engine and running gear and goes like a rocket.it’s enjoyable to drive and is pretty practical.
Whoops, you forgot to mention it needs stupidly expensive PULP. This adds at least 12% to your fuel bill and severely limits fill up places especially in rural Australia. No Android connectivity? Why Skoda? Apple only has low 20% percent of phone market? Why alienate 70%?
Carsales's review stated that the air-con couldn't cope with hot weather making for marked occupant discomfort. For driving in the Aussie climate, this is a deal breaker for me. Anyone out there know if this is a widespread issue or just confined to that particular test car?
To be honest if I was going skoda I would probably buy a Kamiq over the Scala. In my opinion it looks better and more proportionate, and only has a small price jump.
Because the current VAG DSG work fine and have better fuel economy than conventional automatic. There was a marked upgrade between the older 6 speed DSG and the 7 speed that has been in the Scala since 2020.
The A3 costs way more, and the Scala is built on the same platform as the tiny A1(!). Get your facts straight. Scala is a large Polo, 10cm longer than a Golf 8. A3 is a smaller Golf.

Awesome review mate, seems like a great car overall. I'd have the manual base model
It's our badluck that skoda is not well represented by dealers in my country.

The sound controller knob is on the steering wheel, you missed that one out. Oh max and the Monte Carlo is the top range model not the launch edition.
I got the G-tec (CNG) version for almost a year. I bought with only 16.300€ and it moves with 4€/100khm. Now I have money in my pocket.
After the glowing review I was expecting better than an 8.

Is Skoda using the same 1.5 engine that Volkswagen won't use in Australia because of our fuel??
They are, might require to use premium fuels though...
@@buggersofoz yes probably

Hi Mate: I will wait unit the octiva land in Oz. Scala is a good car and still like the sedan look (Like The Jetta)
If it had an 8 speed Asin torque converter auto, I’d consider one.
Dude it doesnt matter.
And dct is usually better unless its a zf8.

This vs the Cerato Hatch soon?
it would look better in white with the black accents and a better choice of wheels....
That's the MC then, but you can get a similar look with every model.
So the 3 years service pack is cheaper per service then the 5 years?

does the 2021 in the title mean it's a review from 2021 or is there a new 2021 version of the scala?

Kamiq looks good only on pictures.
My cousin got one and I've been in it , personally I like the styling but hey everyone is different

I bought Scala cause Kamiq has smaller trunk/boot. Especially the G-tec version.
PS. The price increases are not from SKODA. They apologized that they increased prices by 3%. Just the local greedy little pigs
I dislike the excess of headroom, wud prefer if the roof line was lower.
Why are they still using dsg when 99% of us drive in traffic. Give us a normal automatic please.

No, it would destroy the flat silhouette. If you need roof racks, buy the octavia.
