Mika, you are so right about the lead guitarist, Kanami. She started out with the piano and only listened to classical music until junior high. Also, in an interview, she mentioned that Chopin was one of her inspirations.
Thanks for your reaction to my request. To me, "Manners" is a pure funk groove. I hope in the future you get a chance to react to a recent video by Band-Maid on UA-cam. The song is titled Band-Maid "Honkai"- SPINOFF. If you like the bass/drum interaction at the start of "Manners", you'll love the intro to "Honkai". In this one MISA's bass tone is otherworldly.
Manners +Black Hole reactions will always bring me in. Thanks for the return to the Maids! ❤🔥 Also, yes. Kanami only heard classical music as a child and was trained on piano.
@@GaryHolloway-810 I think it's awesome that I've made it to 2025. Beyond that I've been busy with a major winter storm that gave us 7 inches of snow, ice, freezing rain and bitter cold temps. I am about done with shoveling snow.❄🥶 How are you and yours?
@@johnmatthew102 I'm glad to hear you're ok. I'm ok thx, but just once over Christmas in London i'd like to experience snow like you have. We sometimes get a dusting that melts after a day or so but no proper snow for decades.😔
Manners is my favorite Band Maid song Black Hole was a little too busy and chaotic on first listen but now after hearing it a few dozen times my ears can distinguish each instrument and the nuances in the the vocals So give Black Hole a few more listens, let it slow down for you and you will love it like all Band Maid songs
Boy, you guys nailed it... - Miku's bg vocals are another instrument that Kanami uses in her orchestration - Kanami is a classically trained pianist (Chopin is her favorite composer) - Misa's bass and Akane's drums are a propulsive force of nature - Black Hole is a bit overwhelming on first listen and it will gain another star with each subsequent listen on to infinity

And RogerChance is The Pied Piper leading all the Music Fans to The BandMaid Promised Land..and BandMaid keep all their promises..Good On Ya Roger and Bill
Hi from France: Kanami, the lead guitarist and composer of the music for both pieces, started out as a classical pianist at the age of three and only discovered the electric guitar at the age of 17, for the reason that "girls prefer to see and hear guitarists on stage" (sic!)... If you want to hear beautiful heavy metal (almost operatic) voices, I highly recommend you listen to LOVEBITES, another Japanese quintet composed of five girls all virtuosos in their parts and also NEMOPHILA, more trash but the singer is extraordinarily powerful. For about ten years in Japan there has been an explosion of all-female rock bands of all tendencies: Hagane, Gacharic Spin, Hanabie, Trident, East of Eden, Koiai, Aldious, Mary's Blood and many others... enjoy female Japanese music!!!
Blackhole is written purposefully to be barely controlled chaos. It’s their fastest as far as BPM and that’s why the lyrics are about a blackhole, it’s just a collapsing insanity. It gets better with subsequent listens, but I think Manners is a masterpiece, so it’s fair that it’s rated higher.
Great reactions guys. A few facts- Kanami (Music and Lead guitar) composes in an orchestral style- the instruments playing different part of a composition coming together as one. Astrophysics- A Black Hole is a star that is so dense that even light cannot escape its gravity and all the references are about what it might be like being sucked into a black Hole- the genius that is Miku (Lyrics, backing vocals, rhythm guitar). Thanks (UK)
I'm probably the 500th person put this up but you're right on the money with the classical music reference. She listen to primarily classical music when she was playing piano when she was younger and her main influence was Frederic Chopin. And yes that is very much like flight of the bumblebee!
Southern rock? 🙃 Dunno bout all that? 🤔 More old school classic rock, a tad bluesy even 😎 Manners is top tier Band Maid! ♥ Am I the only one who think these 2 kinda look like Frank & Moonbeam Zappa (circa 80s)?
Classic rock is where I would lean to, but I guess you could make a case for southern rock, with a bit of bass reduction. Oh, what am I saying...turn down MISA in a mix...20 lashes for me.😂 PO!🕊
Gotta give Akane the drummer props ....she's an absolute beast. Every member of this band is top-tier musicians and seeing them live is a must for anyone...seen them multiple times and always stand in front of MISA and her bass just kicks your ass.
I also preferred Manners to Black Hole the first lime listening to this twofer, but I had already seen the Music Video and already loved the song. As far as 'Southern Rock' goes, I also don't see it (my idea of southern rock would be something between Charlie Daniels and Lynyrd Skynyrd), but it does have a very bluesy sound which in itself has southern roots, so maybe something there. Black Hole has grown on me with repeated hearings, and I love the "Space Adventure" aspect of their approach to the Black Hole (of Cygnus X-1 perhaps?) BAND-MAID reminds me of Rush many different ways, (Prominent Bass, excellent musicianship and challenging pursuit of perfecting their craft) so this song continues in that vein.
One more comment on this band. I never even tried to figure out how much I like a song until I've heard it about 50 times. I know I'll wind up loving them all because that's how good they are. It takes a while for their music to really sleep in because there is so much to it.
Manners is a classic groove rock song and Black Hole is their fastest and most chaotic song at 220 bpm, which gives you that weird dizziness one might feel as they're being pulled into a Blackhole before you get spagettized. 😂
While I appreciate you both reacting to Band-Maid. Why some reactors feel they have to rate a band’s music much-less give a lower rating, “to be fair.” Thanks again for listening to Band- Maid.
How…just how can the same band write and perform these two diametrically opposite songs…?! And then you go through their incredible 130+ discography and realize there is nothing they can’t do, and do well, and you realize this is a once in a decade collection of remarkable musicians. Muse is maybe the last band to have a similar depth. U2 before that, Rush, etc…they are in rare company.
So, you like backup vocals. The fun stuff with BAND-MAID is that Miku often sings another (leadish) vocal than Saiki. Its like two lead singers. And BAND-MAID do that a lot. Even with the instruments. Both drums and bass are playing intricate lines while the lead guitarist is doing the lead. And sometimes also Miku's guitar play do the same. And the Black Hole song show that in extreme. There all five members do their own thing. I even think Miku is doing two things. Then you have six threads at the same time. Black Hole is am impressive achievement.
@@throwaway9389 They harmonize so well together they remind me of my first hearing of ANY Japanese vocals with beautiful harmonies as the Peanuts sang to Mothra in "Godzilla vs the Thing" way back when I was in 5th grade in 1971.

Miku's real name probably isn't Mika. Some people wrongly assume that her stage name as a member of the idol group Lil' Cummin is her real name. Most idols use stage names to protect their identity from potential stalkers. As a general rule, assume that any name you hear is a stage name, not a real name. At least four members of Band-Maid don't use their full real names as their stage names (Saiki has said that her real name is Saiki, which may or may not be true).

no spaceships in sight but how many songs can you recall about black holes? and not just as metaphor.. Kanami - lead guitarist - learned piano when young, listened to, and was inspired by, classical music - and is in fact a fan of Chopin!

Manners is more classic blues rock than Southern Rock, and the dichotomy between Manners and Black Hole is rather startling.
the ones with similar names to yours are Miku and Misa. Sorry, no Mika
Twin vocals. SAIKI and KOBATO are the vocal equivalent of a twin-guitar attack.
