Great video. Best, safest, most sensible approach. Going try this today on my ,05 R1200ST. A Piezo can generate between 5kV - 30kV and the spark can jump at least 20 mm. 💣
just bought an 08 rs1200 gsa and has same issue along with other things. rust being a prime evil.. so will attempt the zap on the bike with full tank, see if that works, has this repair failed or still going strong..
@@BignbeardedadventuresThanks for the he comment,it worked for as long as I owed the bike, but I sold it about a year ago so don't know if it's still working.
Agree with the previous comment. You're not using the part of the piezo the creates a spark so there's no need to take things apart. Also, you should replace those plastic fuel QD's with metal ones before they crack. Lastly, how long did this last? When I did mine, it failed again after 1 or 2 tanks of fuel. Lucky for me, BMW has a 12 year warranty on the fuel strips. My current one has lasted about 4 years (knock on wood!).
12 year warranty? My bike is a 2007, and my fuel range is stuck on 400km. I guess recalibration or replacing needs to be done. Now it just seems I have infinite fuel haha. Should I ask BMW for warranty?

@@randomcol1378 many thanks, seems it is android only - I'll also need a cheap tablet. Thanks for the info though! Any other good OBD2 related hacks you know of for the R1200GSA?
I wish I could undesrtand a word you are saying. When you are recording a video for the general public, please talk as you were a announser, slow, loud, and clear .Thank you
@@randomcol1378 Thanks for taking the time to reply. Sorry for the tone of my initial comment. You ARE one of the lucky ones then, and I'm glad for you. I'm doing the longer term replacement of the strip with the float, as I have time and interest. I found great UA-cam and other website info on that conversion.

What do you zap it with ? It is hard to understand what you're saying. Thanks.
Its a piezo igniter from a barbeque lighter.
@@randomcol1378 Do you have the link to one and the repair video? There seems to be so many of these lighters. Thank you.
@@AB-hx9hs no sorry its just a cheap one from a local store.
What is the diagnostics dongle you are using with the bike? I need one for error checking my bike.

That’s exactly how would have done it.

Ok next time
Seriously?
You can 100% zap them whilst on the bike.
Total waste of bandwidth
As is most of you tube, as for the repair it's still working a year on.

That's ok that repair with the float is a good way to go.
@@larrylarry1206 can you share where you got that information? Is it hard to change to float, and will your range on the dash still work?
The only thing I understood was "see you soon"....
Katastrophe dieser Mechaniker,
Jo ! 😂 ... echt Katastrophe ... das Werkzeug und die Benutzung, der Dreck, kein Kabel fixiert, usw. da fällt mir echt nix mehr ein ...
