- The Honda Civic Type R is an extreme hot hatch to rival the Renaultsport Megan Trophy and SEAT Leon Cupra. It may only be front-wheel-drive but with 306hp 2.0-litre turbo V-TEC engine it's capable of challenging all-wheel-drive rivals like the Ford Focus RS and Volkswagen Golf R. That's because its limited slip differential and clever front suspension geometry really let it put its power down. With a 0-60mph time of under six seconds and a top speed of 168mph, the Civic Type R is the fastest Honda road car ever after the all-new NSX supercar. But is it any good? I don't know its really close between the FD2 type R and the FK2 would much rather have the FK2 but FD2 in black really looks amazing
Hey, looking for advice - should I buy one of these cars second hand for £18,000? its been on the race track a few times & has just 15,000km done, Im just worried the Type R may cause issues after being used on the track.. what do you think?
While being used on the track may increase wear and tear, even fast Hondas don’t have a habit of breaking down. Ever.

I like the fact that the noise seems genuine, and not using some stupid gadget to artificially pump the sound into the cabin. I think any manufacturer that does that is a joke. Mature adults don't need special effects. Matt say this sounds a bit quiet, but at least its a real noise and would do me nicely for a run around!

yeah, is much more unique then the fords
focus rs would be better if it didn't have the weight of a moon. 1600kg there are 7 seaters lighter. Also 260 L boot, ford are you serious promoting the RS as a family sports car with a fiesta / corsa boot space. fyi ford the CTR has 500 L boot and yes in the UK it rains and the awd makes sense, but everywhere else it doesn't rain so often and the awd is useless unless you do drag races but then you wouldn't because it's your own car and don't wanna ruin it in stupid drag races because awd raw straightline speed rofl
I'll take this over the Focus RS any day.

Had a wonderful roll over in the previous Civic Type R, as a passenger. We all crawled out of the wreck, good solid car.

This car is very very nice! And the most important: super reliable :D But I'd go for the low key smallest engine available with a very discrete color and some very very dark tints.
The color seems to fix it's awful looks a bit.
Not my cup of tea despite the fact I love hot hatches but I'd certainly love to have a go in one. I have no doubt it's great fun to drive...is that 0-60 right? Thought it would accelerate faster than that but I guess it's how it feels that's important and maybe the car is designed more for midrange which is after all where you spend most of your driving, especially on a track.

The civic mugen RR saloon for the Japanese market is a really nice car it had round about 230BHP looked a bit like a Mitsubishi evolution

Im from cape town & Its extremely expensive! The Golf R & Focus RS is priced extremely well here by us. Had a go in it & I must say it is hell FAST!

I had one as a loaner a while ago. Standard Polo is a fairly bland wheeled transportation device. The interior is slightly nicer because much of the switchgear comes from the rest of the VW parts bin. Specing it up makes it ludicrously expensive. Manual gearbox and visibility are pretty damn good.
Personally I'd go for a car with a bit more character, such as the Peugeot 208 for elegance and style, Seat Ibiza for style and sportiness, and Hyundai i20 for equipment and superb value for money.

i seen one first time today in white parked up outside a garage they look awesome there was a golf R near it and the type R looked much better than the golf R imo looked amazing in white.

it is. everybody prefer it over fk8, they just dont admit it because their wifes will kill them if they buy such not comfortable and low to the ground car with huge turning circle on top of that in which front seats you need a lot of hands and special movements to get out
so I wont change to fk8 will keep my fk2 a lot of time, it is so much more special

You should just put that money down on an Audi or get the GTI it's pretty fun to drive

Is it beneficial to have rear wing pushing down with front wheel drive car?
more grip is good no matter which wheels power the car
yes cause it inevitably pushes the car down onto the road, however if it produces greater levels of down force than the front splitter, then it will inevitably lift weight off the front wheels at higher speeds. All in all it is better so long as it is not too aggressive of a wing.
I don't think the engineers are that dumb, they must of designed the wing to have way less effect than a normal wing that size, still get what you mean though.

I'm no aerodynamicist, but a rear wing might help balance the force distribution between the front and rear tires in a front-heavy, front-wheel drive car.

Yet.... because this type r has only recently come out honda seem to be selling the new generation to other countries that didn't get the type R. some new 1.5 turbo hatchbacks have been made in uk and shipped over to the states recently but uk won't see them on the roads until next year some time.
Matt should have been casted for the new Topgear, i would even consider to watch it if he was in it.

I am very interested in this car and I want to buy 3 and ship it to Florida usa can that be possible
us won't let you you have very special us laws for front light height bumper height and so on. I know from friend this exact car does not apply so you won't be able to drive it legally on public roads, or register it neither. it's a pitty :( new one 2017 is not so bad it's almost as good as this one. ofcourse almost. new one is much more comfortable so overall its better.
