I remember watching this video last year when I was obsessed with buying one.
I've now been a proud owner of this car for nearly a year now and I absolutely love it!
There is just one thing I hate about the Civic Type R: I don't have one.

But this isn't for JDM. So why they follow that rule in Swindon? Even only 750 were imported into Japan, then importer can modify the horns
I test drove the Type-R and I have to say that I loved the engine note. It has a nice growl to it and then those awesome turbo sounds makes shifting gears epic!
It made us feel like BTCC drivers. That's a good thing we think.

How can people not like Turbo sounds & all that it brings with it?
Because lots of revs and instant throttle response is more fun than a turbo. It depends, but for the most part turbo four cylinders are biased to low to mid-range torque and most of them fall flat at high rpm, whereas in my opinion the higher the revs, the harder is should go... more natural. :)
I beg to differ, on boost performance & those dump valve & wastegate sounds are pure motorsport theatre.
Also you can get revs galore with the right kind of tuning.
There is no way the VTEC of old could compete with the the current turbocharged competition, never mind pass emission tests.
I can understand that, but don't tell me having about double the torque of a naturally aspirated engine under your right foot, even with slight delay, isn't intoxicating. otherwise nobody would buy an Evo or a WRX STi. If you're in a proper gear you can absolutely FLY and it makes funny noises on lift-off.
Re: Kristian Kopacik.. STis and Evos just aren't as fun as you might think (you can't go flat out everywhere on the road in them, it's excessive and there is no incentive to). Lots of people go from Evos and WRX/STis to Honda Type Rs, S2000s and Toyota 86s (or from Type Rs to STis and back to Type Rs). The whooshy turbo noises are nice, but after 5 minutes driving you don't even notice them anymore, so that's not a big game changer IMO. It's a question of quality vs quantity. You're going flat out every drive in a lower powered car and it's more fun.
Zerofightervi i personality want the loud exhaust of non-turbo cars when i put my foot on the pedal but i prefer the turbo sound psssssss when i take it off
Honda has always made the best shifters, the best fwd track suited cars and pity that the new age requries turbos cause the vtec would've been the most exciting engine in its class. FACTS

I'd seriously consider this. To drive, even Pistonheads placed it ahead of the Focus RS for fun. Then because it's a Honda, it will not go wrong. And i love it's insane and crazy looks. Plus the insane engineering behind the scenes.
You're spot on. People who haven't driven it will say FWD = understeer = boring. We've had a lot more fun in this on track than some supposedly driftier cars. But the Type R is a proper laugh

Owned mine for 5 months now. Agree with everything except the turbo noises, I love hearing it spool and blow off! You're especially right about the scuffing the rims too, mine are a right mess! Also the turning radius absolutely sucks, it's hard to drive in multi story car parks. But apart from that, incredible car I'll be happy to own for the next 10 years!

The infotainment system is actually amazing. It's based on Android and in fact you can install ANY Android app on it (after some digging). It's the only car with in fact limitless possibilities on multimedia system.
Yeah… but it's still awful. We'd rather have something that works when we want to drive and listen to music than play Candy Crush in traffic. Soz.

Ahh, the old one looks so weird looking back at this. The front hood is so... straight slope like and it's overall not as aggressive as the new one.
The Golf R is the one I'd go for or an Audi S3

David Anderson if there was a s3 hatch in usa, i would get it. golf r is nice but doesnt look different from regular golf. the type r in usa will be a hatch, and stand out. too bad it wont be awd. so hard to choose lol.

I have a normal 1.6 civic and it's great. And comes with a parcel shelf. Same problem in the wet funnily enough and it's not as powerful as R

Why haven't you updated the Infotainment system? It'a really easy to do and massively improves the GUI and it's usability.... First thing I did in my CR-V.

I love mine, the only issues i'd say are the front tyre wear is unreal, and the +R mode is way too stiff. Other than that it's epic.
James Healey these are the only things that put me off getting one in the future.. and the fact that it's a 4 seater...
We got through a set of fronts in 4500 miles, but some of that was down to the carwow olym… summer games.

James Healey yes Im on cup2 they last more. conti6 or 4s are way too soft tyres for the grip this car generates in the front. and grip=wear
You guys can talk all you want about the Ford RS, Golf R or the amg. But when you drive this car it's the most fun car ever! Reliable and cheap to buy now. You can get one for 25000€ almost new! Yes I've driven all of the other cars I named earlier but this is my choice!

Josh Horrill I'm guessing 97, turbo engines like these tend to need higher octane fuels to show full potential
Cheers, I think it's hard though to notice any real difference
Petrol (mostly). Usually 95 with 97 for special treats.
