Thank you for being honest and down to earth.
You have the best of both worlds.
Letting us know you do have storage because you have a hard time giving up your antiques is an honest omission. I appreciate that.
You were also honest about the heat and your ac and you and little Marley were going through a hard time.
Also about parking in a parking lot and those two big semi trucks parking near by and keeping you up all night.
The good times and meeting up with other people who live the van life.
I think I remember you being in the Army. You definitely are a tough person and have lived through a lot!
Amazing you don’t take any medications!
Thank you for being honest. Life is not easy and to do what you do certainly takes a lot of work.
      God bless you and thank
You for your videos. You reach a lot of different kinds of people.
      ❤️🕊️🙏🐶

I think the biggest thing is the acceptance. If a van is your only option you must leave the pain, sorriw, blame etc. behind and embrace the new. Not easy but the only way to thrive, like Lindy.

It also applies to people, especially women, who sell all, buy an RV then find out it is not as glorious as they were led to believe. My late husband and I moved into our motorhome in 2004. The 13 years of his illness much maintenance was deferred. He has been gone almost 4 years now. It is overwhelming at time to try to catch up which I am failing at. But, the motorhome is all I have to live in.

I have been living in a 32 ft 5th wheel for 4 1/2 year. Not by choice, my long haul trucker husband decided after 17 years he wanted a divorce. I was blindsided. I am looking for a small manufactured home I can afford in northwest Arizona.

Living in a vehicle big enough for a bed and your clothes is not homeless. That is your home and in many ways it is way better than renting an apartment. Being locked down to a lease and single location even if your neighbors are awful is worse than living in your vehicle in many cases and it’s cheaper living in your home on wheels as well.

Trying to let go myself, I find it useful to take a picture of the item and save it digitally. It takes less room and you can still enjoy that memory. If you are extra blessed to still have that person available, you can take a selfie of the item and both you and the person who gave it to you...

It's one thing to live this way because it is a choice, it is a different story if you have been forced to live in a vehicle. No senior in the U.S should be forced to live this way. Van life fantasy!! you said it. I would love to travel around and camp and when I get tired of it I could come home. That's called fun. Living in a van full time would be torture for me. I love small , but not that small full time . I agree that less is more. I've learned that material things never made me happy. we've learned much through the years.

I found that most people don't get the right stuff. They avoid learning things, don't really study or read what the library doesn't have. They are quick to judge that I personally, should have only the bible, notebook and pen. I do lego because it relaxes me. I used to do jigsaw puzzles, but found lego less stressful because missing pieces don't matter. I have textbooks because they amuse me. I have one offs china here and there, because I find joy in using a different dish, depending on what i feel that day. I don't need a 6 piece setting of everything I found cool looking. Thrift store finds are good enough for me. Do I own a lot of stuff? Yes, but I live in a sardine can. I got rid of around 75 percent of my non-fiction stuff because I decided I'd never make sense of it and moved on. You can't eat minamalism or air. This is why I make sure if have enough First In First Out foods, if I can afford to do this. I'm slowly working on this. I have 3 weeks of FIFO currently, but hope to get more. I believe we need LTS foods, but who can afford that?
Collectables - I only collected lego, chess sets (my bad - too much brain damage) and textbooks. Sure you can't take it with you, but I can't think of anything more boring then sitting on a couch watching Telly while people (not you, but other people) scream you must get rid of everything because you can't take it with you. Knick-nacks never amused me. Just something to break as i was always a klutz. I am going to sell most of my chest sets.

This was a great video for anyone, not just nomads. I've been studying this life style for 4 years so that I'm prepared if things change for me. I'm 65 and slightly handicapped and have a mini van that I could make do in if my lot rent goes up one more time. I'm already thinning things out just in case. I too would rent a small storage unit to keep just a few things that are precious to me but would mean nothing to anyone else. I'm so glad you were able to get your AC situation figured out. I'm in NW Montana and we are still dealing with the cold, but another 3 weeks and the heat will be full blast for the next three months. Thanks for sharing the realities of everything. If you're ever up my way, please reach out as it would be nice to meet you. But who knows, if I end up in my van I may meet you in the desert in winter😊. Take care, safe journeys!

You are right Lindy. I am an RN. In doing home healthcare years ago, 1:3 vinegar/ water solution or 1:10 bleach/ water solution were used for cleaning and disinfecting medical equipment and supplies. Today, I think a 1:2 and 1:1 vinegar/ water solution are more common. For your own personal use, some people use straight vinegar.

I lived on my boat for over 25 years ,Van life is similar to boat life but dirtier, all the things you are saying are so true now I have been forced into a Van ,it’s better than being stuck in a house or apartment. For those of us that are older on a fixed income it can be a challenge . As on a boat whatever comes in that is multipurpose puts a smile on my face . It’s the simple things that count Funny how people don’t realize how much water they waste and how much stuff they don’t really need.Happy Birthday Dear ,all the best to you .🎉🎂

Thank you for this video. I’ve met you once at Susan Hare’s camp who is also a great author and content creator. You were at Van Aid near Yuma Arizona in 2024. You have told the truth. People need to hear reality. Those content creators run off and make videos that look fun and exciting. One young man quit vanlife the first time he had diarrhea in the winter but no way to potty indoors. Several couples broke up. One couple built a tiny house in the woods ad had a baby. Other people built a tiny house in the woods contributing to the rising land prices. When times grew hard, that couple bought a house in the city. Every point you made was the exact target. I have not figured out my way to van life yet but videos like yours keep me grounded. People are not talking about seniors aging out of vanlife when they need to stay close to their medical providers. Being sick in a vehicle is awful. Your videos are both educational and inspirational. Hold firm.

I concur with much of what you are saying! I’m coming up on one year full time, and absolutely love living in my van. I think I travel more than you-I’ve been mostly in CA, but back in the East Bay every 2-4 weeks, and I mostly boondock. Because my chronic illness makes me very temperature sensitive, I travel with the weather-I’ve been avoiding the worst of the heatwave by staying on NFS land in the sierras. Sure, it’s uncomfortable and stressful at times, money and adequate water are chronic concerns, but I’ve no desire to return to stix and brix. I’ve already met and dealt with one of my greatest concerns-breaking in down in the middle of nowhere-but new friends and the kindness of others made the difference, and now I have a “new” (older!) van with more space. Be well!

"Everybody's in your business," you made me laugh, I used to live in a small Victorian Town, in a Conservation Area in the UK. The gossiping that went on was unbelievable, so much so, my hairdresser said, "You can start at one end of town with just one feather, but by the time you've walked to the other end of town, you've got the whole bird! lol

I bought a truck last year and I've been living in it for 8 months in a driveway who's house is full of people. I couldn't afford the rent increases with the utilities and have insurance for my vehicle. I'm on SSI. I'm paying 250 rent plus utilities. I pay more than each one of them are. There's 4 people living there and only one has a job. I would rather be camping and doing my own thing. I think that 250$ a month is too much for a driveway. I'm stuck in a bind right now I had to get a payee and they just can't get along with me. So I told her just KEEP HER MONEY.
She's dreaming when she says get a real car and a house to live in.. she a veteran and she's not very educated. So until I obey her orders I'm not allowed to have anything I want or need for my truck. I've reported her to social security. She's making up lies now about being my payee. She's spent over 500$ of my back pay and bought me a 109$ junky battery .. I've never spent over my check. I'm hoping I can find a way to hold her liable for taking my money. I'm speaking directly to the person handling my case at social security. The thing is getting a hold of him.
But I have and I told him she's neglectful and abusive. And she's threatening me always about social security and handing everything I have over to them. So I've reached out to social security and asked for a change in payees. Now I need social security even more because they said I can and she lied and said I couldn't. She's telling me and my daughter we stink. 😅😢😅😅 I know I don't stink. It's just her new car and condo smell she's so used to. I should really notify the police if social security doesn't step in. I think she was putting my money directly into her bank account and lying to me. Social security said she just had direct deposit for June. She's been my payee since March.!! Did she use my back pay in her account also. ?? 😮 😢
She's really got me on the edge of my seat. And she's holding back from me until she gets the health department and police over here. She said she could do that. I was wanting to visit some campgrounds and explore some. Now I'm her prisoner with no friends here. Just a niece who's on her side .
    Nobody likes me.

Why do you need a payee? Your situation sounds bad. Why can't your daughter be your payee? Why pay $250 to park in a driveway? Lots of states have reduced campsite rates for elderly. A campsite with water and electricity would be better than a driveway. There are showers and bathrooms. You need to control your own money. Get yourself out of the mess you're in.

      @MelissaJohnson23408 7 місяців тому +1

@@Hatbox948 I've been reaching out to social security. That's a start. There's a representative there handling my case and that's who I report to. I just told him that she's a abusive and I have a physical and mentally challenged daughter to care for. My sister is being abusive to both of us. You asked about my daughter. She was born with epilepsy. I'm living in my nieces driveway. She's a drug addict. She's a very hard person to get along with. She's living here free because her landlord is letting her in exchange for repairing and fixing a dilapidated house. He gives her money and food. But I've been told to leave several times.
Because they all say we stink and she's saying the real landlord doesn't want me here. But I'm paying her rent. Plus my sister is probably giving her money on the side.

Such a rare, honest, tell-it- like it is person with a heart of gold, coupled with a "don't you dare mess with me" (when needed) attitude. What a delight! Hope to meet you one day at a convention or the like. Your no nonsense videos are so appreciated and enjoyed! Be good, be safe!

Living in a Stick and Bricks house has its challenges too #1 The Cost to get and maintain it is beginning to exceed its value. #2 You can’t take it with you if you find a better location . #3 You can’t choose your neighbors # 4 You can’t remove it from a natural disaster heading your way. #5 You may lose value if the market shifts. #5 More space more cost to manage temperature. #6 You can’t drive away from a stalker who finds where you live. #7 People judge you by where your house is and how it looks too. LOL😂😂😂The moral is “Choose what works best for you and Enjoy it . “

I enjoy hearing your thoughts and reflections on van life. I think it's good to realize that you care so much about your antiques. I bet they are so pretty. Have you taken photos of all of them? I read somewhere that if you take a photo of your treasures, that it is nice to look at them when you no longer have them. I had to sell some things at one point in my life, and I actually ended up buying some of them back later ( found them in a local antique store :) . But now I have downsized and don't have most of those things. It's all good though. You are always such a practical person Lindy. You are very refreshing and smart. 🥰

So I SUBSCRIBED because it helps you get MONITIZED.
While I probably won't watch but so much, I pray that you'll be well as your close to my BEAUTIFUL LATE MOTHERS age who if she was still alive would be in her late 70's.
My mom's been gone almost 5 years now.
    I wish you well!

I remember watching my grandma after years of taking care of her 6 kids. Then being up some of the grandkids. Then not having enough for rent and food. We need to have some help for women who stay at home and get no retirement money.

Have things in storage too and will be on road soon. Can't get rid of some things just yet, sentimental. Would like to have a home base some day so can set up livingroom to grab blanket in winter, relax and watch tv. Temperature is one thing not looking forward to, but rest can be exciting.

Very good video,, I just like to share some information for us seniors living in California, The DMV has decided that all seniors will be retested when renewing their Driving licenses,I am pissed they only doing it to us seniors,,,I guess they want to get us off the road,,,Yes some seniors have accident but not as much as drunk drivers , kids racing, they pay fine, but not retested, I wonder how they figured this data,,, most seniors have great driving records, they driver less on the roads,, .and drive carful....Dmv is not the best place to be standing in lines for hours,I'd rather go get a tooth pulled than to be there,,,,Can can look into it... Just Information take care

Lindy thank you for sharing. I appreciate every reality video and info on van living. I have a bit of time to get ready. I'm literally "training" now to experience some discomforts at home (cold, hot, less showers, minimal needs). Trying (!) to sell my nicer furnishings and things as I emotionally prepare for a big downsize. Chose to get a used minivan with current expenses (fits in the garage), not going into debt to get a larger van before exploring the lifestyle first in a more affordable way. I have loads to learn from many like you.
