Most performers will never experience this phenomenon in their entire career. I learned about it after it happened to an orchestra I was part of did a particularly moving piece. Everyone was just "on" that night and we could feel it ourselves. As it ended (single note by the oboist - not me btw) there was 3 seconds of silence followed by an explosion of applause as the audience lept to their feet. That 3 seconds was among the most emotional seconds of my life. Later our conductor explained it. Even one person who had remained un moved would have started clapping and the rest would have followed. As a singer, Brian pulled off a feat almost unheard of. A truly stunning performance.
@@beverlywhite8433 this particular silence was actually slightly edited, you can tell by the way it was cut that it was slightly extended. The whole edit was completely unnecessary because what was truely telling was the complete silence while he was performing which you cannot edit. Several years ago I took singing lessons. My vocal coach asked me to show her an example of a song I emotionally connected with so I showed her Brian's rendition of Creep. Later that day she had it playing in her house and her husband burst into the room saying "who IS that???". That in my mind sums up how I feel about Brian's vocals.

I only discovered this video a few months ago and I still can't get over this performance. Incredible. This guy means every word, every note. Such an emotional act, he took my soul out and went for a walk with it before putting it back.
I’ve never heard this song before, and he swept me away. What passion and pathos and power (I feel that way always…listening to this was almost primal) for me. He made those lyrics pierce my soul. What a devastatingly moving performance. What a voice. What a masterclass in creating intimacy without sacrificing passion and power. Wow.

Thank you Tara, I really needed that today. Brian's rendition of Creep is by far my favorite (listened to it over a thousand times by now), and helped me accept my sexuality, myself as who I am and not let others define who I should be or aspire to become... When Brian said "maybe I am just... worthless", the way you looked at the camera felt like you were looking at my soul saying "of course you're not, silly". I am so darn glad to live in this century where people are finally understanding that love is love, no matter how ! Seeing you react to him and love him reallymade my day, thanks again Tara, love u !
And just seeing him stand alone on that stage. No flashy lights. Nothing. Just a grown man being completely vulnerable and pulling emotions out of him like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat. It was so sad and spellbinding. THAT was so moving.
The complete silence at the end of the song says it all. Greatest reaction ever. After you watch, re-watch and re-re-watch this, watch it again with the sound off.
That performance was truly breathtaking, but thank you for going through the techniques and effects used throughout it. It makes music richer to know its understood.
OK, so I must say first that I'm SO GLAD you reviewed this. I saw him perform this live on AGT, and I'm terribly embarrassed to say that I have watched the UA-cam video more than 200 times since then; probably more like 300. I think it's stunning and RIVETING -- as the stunned audience reaction revealed. I can't believe it's taken this long for someone to recommend it to you, but I'm thrilled you have heard it now. The note he held FOREVER, then dropped into another, which he also held a long time, was incredible. You hit the nail on the head when you said that he sounded as if he had even MORE air! Crazy. Your review of the dynamite, bluesy performance of Haley Reinhart's version of "Creep" also was spot on. It was BRILLIANT. Can you believe the difference in the approach to the same song??? Both GENIUS in their own way. Thank you, Tara! (And I'm certainly the oldest "student" you've ever had in your "Sing Smarter Not Harder" course. I'm in the early stages.) Love, love, love your reviews. And if you want to hear yet another great "Creep," check out VINCINT's version on the competition show The Four.
In the line of singing I am involved with, stage presence is always a big factor. This performance is a masterclass on stage presence. This guys ability to grab the audience even before he starts singing is staggering and to keep it up until after the song has finishes is even more staggering. This performance gives me chills every time I hear it. Just to add, his eyes are haunting !!
Always has been one of my favorite performances on AGT, I've probably watched this video over 100 times over the years, thanks for the wonderful reaction to it
Absolute chills. For some reason I think the best versions of this song are the covers. I think my favorite thing about Creep is the versatility of it. So many amazing vocalists have put their own breathtaking spins on it like this.
Such a great voice and breath support that would put even the most seasoned professional singers to shame, wow. He has done a lot of covers from a lot of different artists and are arguably better than the originals, including this one. Such a great talent.
I LOVED his performance in Superfruit’s Rise cover that they did as a response to the Pulse Nightclub shooting, which was the first time I had heard of him. Once I listened to this performance, I melted. So good.
I have watched this performance by Brian dozens of times...I simply never tire of it. Tara's reaction is by far the best review of the many there are. And there ARE many, because this performance is nothing short of perfection!
I love me some Brian Justin Crumb. He still each time gives me chills. Will NEVER understand how he did not win. But whatever, Brian is a winner all on his own merit. ❤ to you Brian.
Hey I appreciate your energy! You're supportive and positive, and I totally see by your reactions that you're not listening, you're totally feeling... I dig it! The world needs more people to build, instead of just tearing things because you don't want to see someone else win... I want everyone to win! You're boosting people thanks for what you do!
The moment of silence from the audience immediately following speaks volumes as to the power of his voice and how he drew them into the song and made them and us feel it as much as we heard it. Absolutely love this video!
I get goosebumps every time I listen to this......and I’ve listened to it sooooooo much. Brian can definitely reach in and touch the soul of every person in the room. As someone else said in the comments, the seconds of silence after he finishes his last note.....you could have heard a pin drop. That was everyone’s brain catching up with the emotional magic they just experienced.

I suffered from depression ,suicidal thoughts and self harm throughout the year and today i think is the most terrible day for me cause i got triggered but unable to cry as i said to myself "i wanna cry so bad" over and over....and watching his performance really remind me that there's hope in this world and he delivered that massage beautifully....thank you Tara for reacted to his performance without you I would've not know him and i really needed that kind of positivity 😘love you so much 💗
It seems to me that many of the friends that I have who suffer from depression are really amazing wonderful people in other people's eyes. Many are smart, high achievers and are admired by their peers and yet feel a deep doubt about their self worth. Even when they recieved compliments, they don't believe they. I'm wondering, have you told a close friend, family member or sought professional help for your depression? It's not to be taken lightly and shouldn't be hidden from loved ones. I suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts when I was younger. So again, have you told anyone yet?
Every time this comes up when I’m watching UA-cam, I watch it. I watch it because I love the way he sings this but I also love to watch your reaction to it and the way you describe what he’s doing. Thank you for choosing to listen to this and to help those who love singing but don’t think they are that accomplished. 🙏🏿❤️
Never Tara made me laugh so hard. The way she was emotionally touched for Brian and his quality as singer is very funny yet emotional. Thanks Tara, enjoyed your reaction thoroughly. You are a good and sweet person.
EVERYTIME I see this vid it makes me cry. His voice is absolutely a gift from God. Thank you Tara for making these vids. Your positivity is amazing and your vocal knowledge is even more amazing. If that's not enough then there's your voice and that's amazing in itself.😁
She talked about couch time, about the importance of having your background story ready. My couch time: I’m an immigrant from Mexico. I was bullied for being fat and wearing thick glasses in school. He’s beyond amazingly talented - love how he chose a song that ebbed and flowed.
I count 5 seconds of absolute silence before the crowd starts cheering.
The complete silence at the end of the song says it all. Greatest reaction ever. After you watch, re-watch and re-re-watch this, watch it again with the sound off.
That performance was truly breathtaking, but thank you for going through the techniques and effects used throughout it. It makes music richer to know its understood.
I can watch this over and over again. This performance was unbelievable!
Did you notice how when Brian stop singing there was a pause before the applause? That was a sign that something extraordinary just happened.
It took so long for anyone to react to this in the end. They were all stunned and speechless...Only true artists can actually make that happen
When I first saw this I kept repeating it at that very same part because it gave me goosebumps ✨
Vincint Cannady CREEP mind-blowing.
I love technical break downs of things i don't have a high level of understanding like singing it's very insightful.
I LOVE THAT PERSON BUTIFUL SOUL, GOOD SOUL ❤
In the line of singing I am involved with, stage presence is always a big factor. This performance is a masterclass on stage presence. This guys ability to grab the audience even before he starts singing is staggering and to keep it up until after the song has finishes is even more staggering. This performance gives me chills every time I hear it. Just to add, his eyes are haunting !!
this man is go great. I was in tears when he sang this song. It relates to how people feel and don't fit it. Very very emotional. Very very well done.
When there is silence after the performance. The audience is still savoring what they just experienced
They were stunned!!
Always has been one of my favorite performances on AGT, I've probably watched this video over 100 times over the years, thanks for the wonderful reaction to it
Brilliant performance. ALL the feels!
Tara is so breath taking. Her reactions and sounds affects are incredible
Absolute chills. For some reason I think the best versions of this song are the covers. I think my favorite thing about Creep is the versatility of it. So many amazing vocalists have put their own breathtaking spins on it like this.
I have listened to this video so many times, and I get chills every single time. He is just so amazing.
Please check Sarah Geronimo version too. You will feel the emotion.
Just watched it again, with Tara.
I know I have seen this sooooo many times, but it still gives me chills when I hear it.
Wow, I didn't think you would react to this any soon, and here we are. I love this performance! ❤
I listen this performance hundreds of times and it still gives me chills every time... The best version ever 😭❤️
Brian is a gifted singer, who makes every song a performance. Can't wait to buy his albums.
5:54 😂 we have the same reaction when I watched this part. 😊 And the goosebumps too. That kind of feeling. 😍
I cry everytime I hear him sing this. So beautiful
“yes you doooo” This is the first time I’ve ever seen her; this woman is priceless!
If I had any sort of voice whatsoever she would be my oracle! Great stuff
Truly the best rendition of Creep I've ever heard. Also the best goosebumps performance I ever heard on AGT...until Angelina Jordan came along.
Imagine if Brian and Sydnie Christmas did a duet omg 💗💗💗💗☺️😊
Yep I felt it as this was amazing and one of the top 5 performances I've heard
in my life. Just magnificent.
When the audience is silent for the whole performance, you are a artist.
He starred the road show of Queen the Musical. He is fantastic.
Hang in there @paradinight. Things will get better.
Every time this comes up when I’m watching UA-cam, I watch it. I watch it because I love the way he sings this but I also love to watch your reaction to it and the way you describe what he’s doing. Thank you for choosing to listen to this and to help those who love singing but don’t think they are that accomplished. 🙏🏿❤️
Just hearing what this amazing singer went through during his lifetime brought tears to my eyes. But he showed them just who he really is.
When I was 12, I stood up to my bullies and that was the end of it. My dream is to become a professional singer like Josh Groban. Josh is one of my biggest musical inspirations.
Tara- I just love seeing your reactions - I am so glad that you love Brian as much as I do.
