There was a prior comment from someone who said they were Japanese & had never heard of this recipe. Well, I mentioned this video to my older sister. She reminded me that my mother who passed away @87 yrs old in 2017, was full Japanese & raised on a farm near Kyushu, would make something almost exactly like this. She would take some sliced strawberries with a touch of sugar mixed in (enough to make a little “sauce),” & top the cake off with those. She called it a “Poor Man’s Cake,” or something along those lines. Not only does this look yummy, but it’s just beautiful. And evidentially has a bit of history to it. Thank you again for featuring this!
Okay for shits an giggles I made this. I did put vanilla in the whites and the yokes. I did sprinkle some Swerve confectioners sugar to the whites also. I didn't have a cool machine like glove man did, but I used a wisk hand mixer. Didn't get it as thick as his, but it was still awesome. I did also sprinkle some Swerve on the top when it was done, but I think for me it was to sweet. Won't put vanilla in the yokes. The only thing that I would do different next time is make more. This was AMAZING!!!

I still used the sprinkle of Swerve confectioners sugar and a dash of vanilla in the whites just so it wasn't all sour, but overall I will make it again like this with the lemon. I used fresh lemon not bottled lemon juice. Have you made this?
Not only is counting the number of ingredients a challenge but she also has difficulty with some words like "pinch" as in a pinch of sugar also. Heres my version .. add i cup flour, 1 tbs baking powder, i cup buttermilk, vanilla andspices to taste ... voila .. pancakes for two😄
He or she added 2 types of sugar so it's 4 ingredients. Eggs, granulated sugar added to egg whites after beating, butter in pan and powdered sugar. You need all 4 to make this exactly the same.
I was wondering how she poured the egg whites from the container attached with the egg yokes, without pouring the yokes out with the whites? Why not put them in two separate bowls to begin with? Wouldn’t that be easier(?
This was very fun to make. It turned out very nicely. I did add 1 tbs water to the yolks because my eggs are fresh from the nest and a tiny bit thicker than your video showed. I also had another small problem. When I went to get my powdered sugar lo & behold I had none ! I used 1 tsp honey & a TINY pinch of Steviea powder for the merangue. For the topping I had gardea flower infused sugar. Beautiful. Delightful. I would have never thought an egg all by it's self would be so elegant.
Not a surprising Japanese dish. The eggs is highly revered in Japan as a perfect food & desserts are refreshingly never too sweet. But I think my fav part was the tossing of the eggshells🤗

For a floating island you need about half the volume of the unbeaten egg whites in sugar, and for merengue cookies around double the weight of egg whites in sugar. This is a slightly sweet omelette.
I like scrambled eggs or omelets with syrup or ketchup and that is sweet. I like custard too & I LOVE all egg varieties!!! My sister HATES eggs. To each their own. Bummer for her though.

this recipe needs to have more directions in how to make it.I don't think the egg yolks would be very good without some kind of flavoring in them.I didn't see anything being added to them,nor how long to cook them.& just some icing sugar in the white's?

Seems this recipe is inspired by Japanese rolled omelet "tamago yaki", but rarely we Japanese cook tamago yaki just only sweet, normally tamago yaki tastes salty and sweet "ama joppai". By the way this recipe is different from popular Japanese egg recipe but seems unique and looks yummy. And you are good egg separator.

Egg whites and icing sugar is basically meringue so I'm guessing it's a yolk pancake meringue! Errmmm interesting 🤔 but I'm going to give it go! Might chuck in some lemon rind to pep it up.
Essentially it's a meringue dessert. I would have definitely added a little bit of flavoring to the egg white though. The idea of using the yolk on the outside will cut some of the sweetness of the meringue. Beautiful execution and it's a lovely dessert.
Ingredients for recipes dont usually include what is used to grease a pan. And neither do things like salt and pepper get added if counting the number of ingredients.

Meringue does not taste like eggs. If you have ever had lemon Meringue pie. This is basically the topping

That's a hard pass for me.
I felt the same way, but I'm doing Keto and this might just be a nice variation on breakfast eggs (using Swerve or Monkfruit for the sugar).

Non è un dolce facile, semplice forse per l ingrediente ma non facile da fare, ci vuole una buona tecnica e una buona strumentazione, d altra parte la cultura orientale è racchiusa in questo dolce, tutta disciplina e tradizioni

Io non capisco perché alcune persone (tante, troppe) debbano lasciare commenti così stupidi e maligni (soprattutto stupidi). I love meringue but that egg yoke "wrapper" has me worried. I'd want to add vanilla to either the whites or the yolk.
