Thank you so much. I have a 96' MB s420. Pulled this out, cleaned it (I used carb cleaner and a clean rag), wd40 the arm, inspected wires and put it back in. Magic! Saves me cash.
I have the same problem. I ran out of fuel 2 times before I figured out my float is broken. Tipp: if you don't want to fix it, you can drive and use board computer numbers for fuel consumption. I watch out for used fuel and when I spend more than 20 liters, I fill it up.
Awesome information. My 2015 ford f250 guage stopped working and went to empty. Maybe like you said, the float came off or the connectors need cleaned. That beats a whole new sending unit 😊 Thank you. You look fillipino. I'm going to the Phillipines for a 9 week vacation in leaving tomorrow. Phillipines people are best.
I got a 98 dodge ram and the gas gauge is stuck on full but when I turn off the truck it goes back down so I’m assuming the level is stuck I’m not sure though
Excellent video. On the Nissan there may be two ports - one for the pump and another for the sender unit. Cleaning the sender unit is key like he shows.
what could it be if its says empty. But if i remove fuel relay then put it back in. Then the gauge has the right reading until i stop driving and cut the engine off. Then it says empty again.
I'm working on a DitchWitch 100 and at first the gauge was not working but now it is. (Recalibrated). I thought the sending unit was bad because I adjusted float and never moved. I tried another one same thing. But when I kill the key and turn back on. Its at the right level. My question is does the level move as fast as the float does or does it send a signal like every ten minutes to check fuel level.
Great video, just picked up a used Nissan rogue, 2017, and this looks to be occurring so I’m just going by the digital readout for now and let the dealership know
Mine shows a full tank when it’s full which is good , my problem is the mileage , it shows only like 130 miles when full tank. I have a 2016 Chrysler 200 S. Any fix ?
This is what happened to me: In February, my alternator died on me. As the mechanic made his Dx, he also said there was a fuel leak and suggested replacing the fuel pump assembly. At that time, I was getting a reading on my fuel gauge of around 170 miles to a 1/2 tank of gas -- normally I get appx. 190-200 miles on a 1/2 tank of gas, roughly 32-34 MPG. When the assembly was replaced, I thought that problem would be corrected. HOWEVER --- NOW, the gauge reads appx. 140-160 miles at the 1/2 tank mark. Everything looks good at the 1/4 tank mark, usually 100-120 miles on the gauge. But then, the needle just plummets at that point. Today I filled up my tank with the gauge reading 159 miles at the 1/2 tank mark and the tank took just under 5 gallons. For the last two months I thought I was getting bad gas, so I switched stations. I also replaced my gas cap to see if that might help. Neither of these things were the issue. I don't know how my mechanic missed this, or if this was deliberate to get me to come in again. After all, it's $135 just to do the diagnosis, then $135/hour for the labor.
I don't know whether this is the issue with my mustang (or if it just started consuming more fuel) but just yesterday, i drove for 25 miles (at an average of 10.9mpg) and my guage went from 230 miles to empty to 173 (57miles worth of fuel consumed). Apart from this, it gives me inconsistent fuel rading a times (if i was to add say 10 litres, it might give me either 40 miles or 25 miles) also, i seem to consume more fuel when the fuel in my tank is above 50 miles to empty, but when its around 50 it tends to behave the way its supposed to. Also switching the car on and off can result to either losing a mile, or gaining 10 miles.
I have a 2006 Toyota Yaris it first started running out when I would have two bars on the dash its digital so I have to put fuel in before it got down to two bars and then it went up to three bars it would run out 10 months later it was four bars it would run out and right now my mother just broke down and it was on five bars and it's out of gas It's All Digital so should this be the same problem
Thank you. A Buddy told me that a malfunctioning fuel gage could be caused by a damaged gas cap which would not allow an accurate pressure or vacuum reading of a fuel tank. A possible theory but as you said the problem would be in the sending unit.
Never in a million years would a guage be faulty because of the tank cap. No matter what fancy words he can use to explain his myth, NEVER! The guage reads "liquid," even if the tank is to be filled up of water, a workin guage would give you a reading, an accurate one too of how much is in there.
Thanks, now I know why I have often been told by auto shop mechanics that it isn't worth repairing due to the age of my parent's 1997 Monte Carlo LS: the fuel gauge has been dysfunctional for a very long, long time. I drive the car more than my parents and I do the same as my Father - when the mileage-wheel gets to 250 miles buy more gas. I wish there was a easier repair option! I was hoping I could find some kind of wireless float that I could toss into the fuel tank and it sends a signal to a USB plug-in receiver in the lighter?
Putting after market electronics around gasoline vapors is not something I would do. A tank of gasoline will leave a huge crater when it sparks. I don't think there would be any survivors.
I changed the fuel pump in a 2004 Dodge Dakota and now the gauge goes up and down, but is never accurate. Sometimes when the tank in near empty it says full or half a tank and sometimes when it's full is says empty or half tank or whatever. I just got a 2005 Chevy Colorado and it's fuel gauge said full when I bought it. Then I noticed it said 1/2 a tank after only a few miles, so I took it to the gas station and it took 18 gallons of gas, so it's fuel gauge doesn't work either because it was near empty.
Currently facing an issue with sudden drop on oil needle gauge while accelerating. My car Lancer Cedia 4g18-CS3A. Converted to CNG due to high fuel consumption. Basically the car starts with oil and convert to gas automatically few minutes after heat up. While driving on 3000 to 4000 rpm there is sudden slight drop of oil gauge needle which can be notice with bare eyes. It becomes normal after park the car for a while. Tried to rev up while the car in parking mood to see if there any drops or not. But it seems happen only when the car is running. First time mechanic suspected faulty fuel pump. After checking his feedback was there is no issue with fuel pump. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I'm taking my Mechanic to Court to get back my money on this job and take it to another mechanic, an expert who is expensive but I won't have that same problem or bill. Get your BENZE in A1 status, the c240 Benz is a damn great car.❤💰🛑
I have the same issue, and later today I plan on putting a fuel additive into my gas tank with the idea that it will clean any contamination around the fuel pump and prevent any more inaccurate readings from arising. If this method resolves my issue, I will make a follow up comment that includes the additive I used.
The work is getting that whole unit out of the tank. Also as long as there is fuel the fuel will still travel to the engine right? You just have to keep track of the odometer right?
I replaced my battery on my 2011 mustang gt. Now the digital gas mileage is off. Its giving me more mileage of about 22 miles now. Where it should say 35 miles to E, It says something like 57 miles to E. I've filled it up about 3 times already and it hasn't gotten back to normal. What should I consider doing now?
My gauge would only go up to 3/4 full and would go down from there when I filled up my tank. Made us nervous not knowing for sure what gas we had so I replaced only the fuel sending unit for our 2002 Camry Denso 955-0105. So far the issue seems to be fixed.
While the Tacometer will be a tight space to disassemble it would still be easier to get out than a fuel pump. I got a 2013 CTS. I'm trying to figure out what could be the culprit. Today, I just filled up from halfway empty and start the car. The fuel gauge oly move on initial start up. I started driving. Then, I noticed the fuel gauge showed what it was supposed to be.
Thanks for the information. Mine doesn't fit into any of those descriptions. Wondering if you can suggest the problem. I have an '08 Prius. When I fill up (because the electronic gauge reads 1 or 0 bars) I can only put in about 6 gallons. The tank holds 11.9 gallons. I drive until the gauge is back to 1 or 0 and when I fill up, again I can only put 6 gallons in. To test IF there is still fuel in the tank, I brought 1 gallon gas can with me. When the gauge hit 0, I started keeping track of how many miles I CAN drive while the gauge is at 0. I can go another 150 miles "on empty". Then when I fill up, I put in the whole 11 or so gallons. So it seems that when the tank is actually HALF FULL, it's reading empty. So it's not stuck on empty because it reads full after I fill up. And there is clearly more fuel in the tank when it is reading empty because I can continue to drive for many miles that way. It's like the calibration is off or something. Please advise. Thanks.
Gen 2s have a flexible fuel bladder that apparently shrinks over time. A class action suit was brought against toyota for this but it was dismissed because "poor design is not the same as a defect in materials (?)." I know because i just bought a used one and found out fast that it only takes 6 gals. however, your +150 miles makes me wonder. I'm still searching for answers.

I have maybe a dumb question but the answer could save me alot of money and headache... Can a car shut off while driving if the electronics THINK it's out of gas? Like, can a faulty fuel guage cause a car to shut down? Or does a car have to physically run out of gas to shut off

What is it if the gauge reads but only goes up 3/4 full even if the fuel tank is completely full? The gauge moves but will not go above 3/4 full. After this it will eventually drop back down to empty when the gas level drops but will not go above 3/4 full. Could this still be a problem with the fuel sender unit or the gauge cluster in the dash board?

Hi. My gauge is always full, when i disconnect the sender it descend to empty but only when I turn off the key and on again.. I tested another pomp but same problem.. I mesured the voltage in the conntector going to the variable resistor (sender), I found that the voltage is not accurate from 3.5 to 4.5v. I didn't understand: it should be fixed 5v i think. Is my instrument panel bad? Not regulated 5v output? Plz help

My truck jumped into reduced traction and said my tank was empty when I just filled it. My truck would not crank over after like power was loss. Of course its a 2004 Cheverolet Colorado.lol
Afterwards, it would crank over only one time and not start.
Plz help
I have a lancer which when you make a bend fuel dissappears and upon returning the steerwheel the fuel goes back. What could be the issue?
I got an outlander. Same pump kinda deal not sure it was a junkyard fuel pump lol
Will this be resolved replacing the fuel pump?
Some cars have separate fuel pump and sender unit so not necessarily.
How much this service should cost if i want to change it
Hello. It's the labor price of a fuel pump.
Great info. Now how do I get that thing out! 😂
hi i have a question i have honda civic 2007 the fuel gauge stocked on empty after the mechanic clean the fuel tank.
is there any way i can troubleshot the issue? appreciate your response.
The float is probably stuck or missing. Remove the fuel pump and check for stuck position.
2008 Audi fuel pump doesn't read right I put one gallon it says 234 till empty then it a show right fuel then keeps going up and up I'll have 45 miles to empty five min in 195 till empty then boom no gas so idk I put ten in daily cuz idk when I'm a run out plus open fuel injectors circuit
It just happens to me a week now. Trying to find out first before going to mechanic nearby. Thank for explanation.
What was it?
@@i_read_bad_reviews I just let it be for fuel gauge.

So mine actually works in reverse so when the tank is full, it says empty. I want to think it’s empty. It says full. What should I do?
The float is probably stuck on the empty position
@@Top5AutoRepairs I have the same problem as the guy you answered to said. Full tank is empty on dash and empty tank is full on dash. But it works REVERSED. The needle moves.
There’s a way to calibrate the fuel needle on 05 Crv I was trying to fix a light on the cruster and I hit the needle by accidente and I tried to put it back but now the reading it’s not even close at all it’s way off when I turn off the car the needle barely sit on E
Replace my fuel pump on my 2019 charger because my gauge wasn’t ready correctly 🤦🏻♂️. I changed the fuel pump but it didn’t help at all. My fuel goes from full to half empty to 1/4 it’s so annoying and my cluster is electronic gage so no way to access it.

Is that for KIA fuel pump?
Hello. I just installed a new fuel pump and I put everything right. I filled my gas tank and it stayed in 1/4 . What could it be
Mine always reads either full or empty code said fuel sending sensor. Trying to find video of my car so can do it right
Do you maby know what can cause rust inside an enclosed tank? How do you prevent it?
Keep the tank as full as possible. Dodgy fuel...do you always fuel up at the same place? Can you go somewhere else> If you car can run on 10% ethanol that will take the water out of the tank (but you may need to change your fuel filter afterwards).
I put a brand new one in my 95 caprice and the fuel readings are not responding
My fuel pump for my 08 nissan quest is brand new and the gauge is giving me the wrong readings and both fuel pumps that i got from O'Reilly's were new
Is the sender unit attached to the pump? i,e, when you replaced the pump did you get a new sender unit? If not clean it as per the above.
@@robertvanruyssevelt7159 yes the sender unit is attached
Excellent explanstion.
My rogue mileage is roughly 605 km after fillup. Now its is showing say 530 even though its filled up.
So didn't underatand the last cause, of stucking in low positions and showing low in the gage, so why it happens?
Dirt , rust. Watch the video.
I have the same problem butt I removed the fuel pump from the tank and test the floater by hand it did good by the gauge but when it put i back in the tank the gauge stop working do you have idea why?
Fuel sender is the problem
super helpful thank you.👍
1994 Pontiac Sunbird 2.0 L Gauge is stuck at half. Been like that for ten years. Heeelp lol
Thx for your information ❤❤❤❤
Sir, I have been trying to find out why my mileage is down on my 2017 toyota camry le, The only thing I haven't change is the fuel pump or the Fuel Injectors. I have over 100500 miles on my car. Do you think I should replace both items. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your topic. Larry
There are a lot of factors that can affect gas mileage. Have you tried fuel injector cleaner? Any check engine light?
@@Top5AutoRepairs :Sir, I use allot different fuel cleaners but it still remains the same mileage. Thank Larry

You might need a basic tune up. Example: changing air filter, replace spark plugs and maybe ignition coil, clean the mass air flow sensor and checking for lazy o2 sensors.
