I really love the look of the table. Real nice job! I especially like the use of Live Oak with its contrasting color and grain. I've got a few large branches that broke off in the ice storm last winter. I might cut up what I can for small pieces like this.

Great video. I use the Target EM8000 conversion varnish as well. Great finish - beautiful appearance, lays out nicely, dries quickly, durable. I also use their high build lacquer EM7000 with great results - less durable, but suitable for all but high-wear surfaces.

@@AndyRawls You're welcome. I've used the EM6000 for years before switching over to the 7000. Great results with it as well. I've always wanted to try their pigmented EM6000. I believe they have it in both black and white, but you can tint any color you wish with appropriate dyes.
first of all, not critiquing just learning, why did you only put glue on the sides of the splines and none in the bottom of the joint? Is it because these are more aesthetic than structural? nice work as usual guys. I love watching you teach him, wish i could find someone near me to learn under.
Not saying this is why he did it. But I've had some joints not seat properly because of glue. The glue either causes the wood to swell or just to much glue in the bottom of the mortise that my tenon doesn't seat.
Using a slot cutter to cutout the slots for the spines means the bottom of that hole follows the curve of the table base. That slot cutter rides on a bearing see its matching that curve...does that make sense? With that in mind, the spline is straight and only touching at each end it doesn't seat down flush in the slot. The glue on the sides is enough to hold it in place. It does add some strength but mostly this is an aesthetic detail.

great video as always! i see some older handtools, i use them myself. what do you like to use, ie planes, saws, chisels? my planes are a stanley smoother(#4) bedrock 605, which is setup as a smoother for wacky grain and a stanley#7
Are you sourcing your live oak wood yourself or have a local sawyer? I'm in south Louisiana so we have plenty of live oak, but i don't know if any local sawyers offer it... time to research it I guess.

I bought this supply from a local sawmill, however it's rare that ay sawmills cut it. It's such a pain to dry without it cracking and checking.

Unfortunately no. It's so hard to find time to enter that show. We're just so busy building furniture for clients I never can find the time to stop and build a show worthy piece.

Where you able to get your clamp fixed? If not I have a couple of ideas on how to weld it. I have experience in cast iron welding.
I saw in the comments of his last video that it's at someone's shop and he hopes to have it back soon.
It's fixed and I should be getting it back this week!
I believe the table should have feet.
