Big fan of The Chosen, they have done such a great job of giving depth and context to the Message of the Gospel. Hopefully it will touch many hearts. Your work on the table is wonderful and I look forward to seeing in the series. I showed my wife your intro so she will know what I'm talking about when I point it out in show. God bless you and yours.
I'm down with covid, found your channel and binged on it big time yesterday. I have a fledgling carpentry YT channel, and reflect my faith through my work like you. I have seen the entire Chosen series and it's well done. I built an authentic cross for my church a few years back but used power tools. (I will have to try it again without.) I so admire your work and commitment to faith and family. I will watch many more. God bless you!
I didn't not see this when you first put out out. But, you truly impress me with your knowledge and workmanship. You do absolutely amazing work creating beautiful wooden masterpieces. I pray that God continues to bless you and your work❣️🙏❣️
Such a amazing build . When you talked about how you used your grandad's brace bits it made me think about how I inherited my great grandad's tools (which are all around 100+ years old from England) and how I wish I could have found the original bits for his brace. But I still count my self lucky for inheriting his tools, Because I ended up with pretty much all the tools I need to get started in hand tool Woodworking. I just have to restore them to working order. Thank you for showing the process of this build I'm thinking about building a smaller version of these for my girlfriend and I's apartment as a dining table
Congratulations on being commissioned to build this table. It’s hard to get in my head the aspect of 1rst Century Furniture. As a Christian, and retired wood worker I have often thought of Saint Joseph and Jesus working with wood, and here “we” are working with wood. As you say, Jesus is a historical Figure. He lived, worked, Loved, and taught. Now you are doing the same. Thank You.
I was taught with hand tools as a kid in England. I still enjoy using hand tools from time to time. It is looking like a really fun build for you. Enjoy that little guy of yours, it is the best time of your life. Thanks for sharing this build, it is great to watch,
Forgot to mention that, even though I had heard about the Chosen before, I had never watched it (maybe because I expected it to be cheesy like you mentioned some Christian shows can be), but my wife and I started watching it based on your recommendation. Then I got my family to watch it too. Such a great show. We were laughing one minute, and on the verge of tears the next. It brings the stories of the NT to life in a way that doesn’t happen when you read them. Thanks Andy.
I am totally in awe of the old wood workers... I have no idea how they did what they did but it really cool to see. Still haven't watched the chosen yet.
We had to do most of these techniques at college as apprentice joiners at the time we all thought it was pointless and redundant with power tools and such but as I get older I appreciate it a lot more and glad that my dad kept me focused on hand tool work at that point in my career
Nice job! I am sure there were many tool marks left on Furniture in the first century! They only add to the authenticity Remember every time you do something different there is a certain amount of a learning curve. looking good!
I love this channel. Amazing skill. Thank you for your channel and leading me to the Chosen. Such a blessing. I pray God blesses you in everything you do!
Man you have way more patience than me, I would have got about 1/4 of the way through first area to chisel and sculpt and would have grabbed the power carver! Keep it up, its looking awesome. I really dig the defects and splits/cracks in the wood
That’s looking amazing man. I’d love to give something like that a try(still honing my skills lol). I will definitely give The Chosen a look, no greater love than the love of Jesus! Keep the great content coming!
Outstanding work and video Andy! Really appreciate your dedication to trying to be as authentic to the piece as possible. We have watched the first season and will be looking forward to the next one and the table you have created! Many thanks for your contributions to this series.
I don’t know if you’ve ever tried it but you can also use a square peg in a round hole for an insanely tight fit.. it’s been used in a lot of Spanish colonial wood work with no nails.
Nice work, I really like the old traditional rough hewn look on furniture. I recently made an old fashioned trencher for a friend to put french sticks in for barbecues, I wanted an easier way to get the hewn look as the grain was all over the place and a gouge didn't work well. The solution was to grind out the centre of a 19mn ring spanner (box wrench), cut the open end off and ground the outside to make it sharp after heating and bending the box to about 60°, epoxied a strong olive wood handle to the shank. It gave me more control than a gouge and seemed to take less effort. After seeing your trestles, I want to have a go at a hewn table.
Man, the table is incredible so far! I really like The Chosen series, and I was excited to hear you talk about this project a few videos ago. Can't wait for part 2! I bet the hardest part of this whole project was actually NOT cleaning everything up and making it perfect, like you always do!
Pretty fantastic work, Andy! Really nice! 😃 I hope Anakin Skywalker likes it! 😬 (Sorry, I couldn't resist a joke about "the chosen one"! 😂) Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Awesome work! Could you have clamped a caul along the back of the rip saw to to create a makeshift backsaw for that long tenon to help keep it straight? Just a thought. You're one of the most inspirational channels on UA-cam!
By hand yes, but probably more card scrapers and cutting stones or stones also cutting chippers or irons used for cutting wood fibers. Your right what were the tools used 2k years ago, that would make a good TV show in and of itself how tools progress over time and how its changed the way we do things. For as far back in history we can find not just wood but metal and stone work too. Any kind of tool.
Interesting video. Great tip on methanol and water. I will have to remember that. I do a great deal of carving. We use to live in Spring Branch, so I have a good idea where your shop is in Boerne.
14:40 they might have had a router plain back then if you bear in mind that a basic one is a block of wood with a hole drilled through at an angle and a chisel hammered through it to the correct depth. They had all of the ingredients to make one and if he could make a lock and key he could have made a router plane 😊👍
15:05 To that carving, you need to carve with the woodgrain... and use a really sharp chisel and/or knife. Then work away in tiny steps. The way you do here gives you allot more work then need to be. Without sandpaper they would use sharp knives and scrapers... which DOES leave a very nice texture. You did the foot part more like I mean.

What an opportunity. Love the how you approached this!
Nice JOB! I 'am sure in the first century there were many tool marks left on the finished piece!
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed your efforts on this build. appreciate your commitment and dedication to your work
I had never heard of that 50/50 mixture tip before thanks for sharing!
Congratulations on such an awesome commissioning for your work!
Thanks for sharing about The Chosen, wife and I are going to watch it!
What a privilage to be part of The Chosen. Can't wait for season 2
It's so awesome that you got to be a part of that. Congratulations!
How awesome that you were able to make that for the show! I like that you decided to use hand tools mostly just to give it a more 'historic' look.
One of my favorite wood working youtubers, your craftsman ship is incredible and congrats of your opportunity with the TV series!
That's awesome love the look and concept oh and great to see the boy in getting dirty 😜 to cool
Oh Yeah he loves hanging out in the shop!
Nice job! I am sure there were many tool marks left on Furniture in the first century! They only add to the authenticity Remember every time you do something different there is a certain amount of a learning curve. looking good!

Great looking build Andy! I especially like that you did the entire build with hand tools, will definitely add to the look of the table on set!
Thanks as always Justin!!
What a cool project! We can all see your passion come out. I'm happy you got to show that passion, and now it'll be on display!
Man you have way more patience than me, I would have got about 1/4 of the way through first area to chisel and sculpt and would have grabbed the power carver! Keep it up, its looking awesome. I really dig the defects and splits/cracks in the wood
Great build. Looking forward to part 2.

Never heard of Chosen. Have seen Roy Underhill, he does amazing stuff w/hand tools. So do you, thanks for the alchohol/water spray tip!!!
Looking great, Andy. I'm looking forward to Part 2 and the rest of the table.
Prediction: The Last Supper table. So excited that progress is being made on season 2!
They finished filming season 2! Jonathan Roumie posted on Insta this week. He said it's due out at Easter time!
Buffalo, they’re quite a few seasons away from filming the last supper scene.
keep up the great work
Don’t know if I’m more excited to see the table on tv, or that season 2 is coming soon.
Outstanding work and video Andy! Really appreciate your dedication to trying to be as authentic to the piece as possible. We have watched the first season and will be looking forward to the next one and the table you have created! Many thanks for your contributions to this series.

Yes it was!! It’s the first time I’ve built furniture without using any sandpaper
@@AndyRawls Wow, I build things myself, so I can't hardly imagine it!
Very interesting. Thanks!
nice to see im not the only one who saw a movie / show were Jesus made something and tried make it myself
Can’t wait for season 2
And stoked to see your craft getting in on the action.
Well done Andy.
👍👍👍
Bravo Andy, you are a true artist 💯👍👏👏👏
Cool project!
So good! :) blessings Andy ...
Nice job!
To get a straight cut with the hand saw, a timber straight edge is helpful.
Wow, this is amazing!🙏👍
Pretty fantastic work, Andy! Really nice! 😃
I hope Anakin Skywalker likes it! 😬 (Sorry, I couldn't resist a joke about "the chosen one"! 😂)
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Looking great so far. Really liked the carved sections.
So good! Thank you.
Impressive endeavor, Andy. A tip of the hat to you.
Hahah, this is how I always work. I love it! Great video!
The Argosy is looking like it needs some love out there in the driveway.
I worked on it today...painted the roof!
Yay for Jesus and cool table too. I don't remotely have the patience to make something like that, but you did an excellent job.
I have the exact same model of brace drill. It was my great uncle’s. I am currently doing an analysis of it for a mechanical design course at college.
That's pretty cool!!
Nice work, I really like the old traditional rough hewn look on furniture.
I recently made an old fas
Wait for part 2. I actually made that handhewn look in the table top edges using a chisel.
Andy: Thanks for allowing me to put 80 hours into this beautiful table for you guys!!
Jesus: * Sees table in temple *
This is great! I love The Chosen, and I love your channel so this is awesome!
That hat! I want that hat so bad

Thank you for talking about Jesus on your channel! I always love your videos man!
Always look forward to your videos sir. If I lived closer in Texas I would stop by and try to steal a technique or two from you.
Wow, amazing table!

You're the best 👌 Great work !!
Interesting video. Great tip on methanol and water. I will have to remember that. I do a great deal of carving. We use to live in Spring Branch, so I have a good idea where your shop is in Boerne.
Your work is great! Keep going♡
That spray bottle looks like it should say Sabre on the side. 🤣🤣🤣
Your son has the Minnie Pearl vibe only with boots.
Yeah he was decked out for cowboy day at his school!

You got me hooked on your channel with the camper......when can we expect to see more of it? Jim...
I’m working on the newest video now. Sorry for the big break in that series I’ll explain more about it soon.
Jesus Christ, this is a great build...
I love The Chosen series. Its a more realistic version of the gospel of Jesus.

thats amazin! you are a best
Could you possibly clamp a long straight edge on either side to tame a flimsy blade? Just trying think I'm helping lol
Lumber was mostly pretty freaking big and such.
Do yourself a big favour Andy and take a look at Japanese pull saws and you'll find it's a whole new world of sawing timber.
You could have clamped down a straight edge on your lines for the tenons. Maybe that would have made it easier to keep the saw plate from bending.
Check out Fridays at the farm
Hornbeam I believe in the chisels.
Yes thanks! I looked it up after I did the commentary and you're right.
The best chisel handles are usually beech, right?
Nice patch hat! When is that one coming available
It’s ready to order! www.bunkerbranding.com/pages/andy-rawls
I would bet Jesus was a master carpenter.... I wonder why He came down and chose to be a carpenter tho? Anyways that’s awesome Andy!!
Long time I haven't seen you working on your trailer. Wonder if I missed any episode. Please put me up to date.
