Yes, make plans please! I love the front rail, love the chair, love the build. You knocked it out of the park with this one. Easily the best chair build video on UA-cam.
Yes chair rail As a tip for the pantorouter, what I do is when I reach full depth for the tenon is I outline the cut very slightly with the...wings? hooks? of the bit before removing the rest of the material. This creates a really nice line - kind of like creating a line with a chisel - and really reduces tear out. I'm a hobbyist woodworker with not nearly as much time in the shop as I'd like and I love my pantorouter
I'm with ya! Yeah, that has been really effective for me as well. I think I might also start using a marking gauge like I would for hand cutting tenons.
The thing with these video's is. It makes me wanna buy tons of machines which I probably use once. All jokes aside. Great inspiring video, thanks for your extensive explanation on the different steps. Much appreciated.
Yes to the rail. I expected to say 'no', but seeing it converted me. Not only do I like the look, but I'm sure it adds to the durability of the piece. For me, the cushion is about 1/2" short. I would not want the wood bumping my legs.
Yeah, it definitely helps with racking and I think really pulls the front of the chair together. The cushion hangs over about a half an inch which I think is good and I haven’t had any issues. The image may be a little deceiving.
YES on the front rail! Beautiful design! I'm considering trying my hand at this once I get some of my more immediate home reno projects complete. I'd be using teak and an outdoor fabric on the cushions. That panto router is awesome! What a time saver. Your attention to detail is superb. Wonderful end product!
@@TimberBiscuitWoodworks I purchased the plans but am having a printer issue so need to sort that out first. I know it's a small detail but I do wish the pieces on the plan were labeled. I'll likely try to make it work with cheaper wood as a first project in case I screw it up, lol.

This is the first time I am seeing one of your videos...and when I see good production quality, cool furniture, and a prolific amount of puns, I subscribe.
This is a very beautiful design, in particular the continuation of the seat into the back and the armrest treatment are both lovely. Love seeing your original version and wonderfully built!
I feel like I have watched every mcm chair build on youtube & yours is by far the best! Thank you for this incredibly detailed build, that kept me entertained with all the great jokes!
Yes, chair rail. I think it adds an element of "eye catch" when looking at it. It would feel like too big of a void under the seat otherwise IMO. I'd never even heard of a panto router before. That thing seems slick. I'll be curious to see what other applications it has besides mortise and tenons.
Couldn't agree more. I feel like it pulls everything together, no pun intended. And yeah, the PantoRouter is pretty nice, I have some other projects coming up that will dive into its other features.
Great looking chair fantastic progression in your woodworking skills since I watched last video quite a while ago. Great looking walnut. Do you have problems. getting good quality walnut?
Thank you for noticing! I pick through a lot of boards at the lumberyard to find the best I can which can sometimes take a while. But for the most part I can find quality boards. Thanks again and welcome back to the channel.
That is an amazing chair and definitely something I want to make at some point but beyond my current skill level and would have to do all the joinery traditionally with the tools I have. At some point I may have the routers and jointers to do this properly with good wood (which is very expensive where I am).
Thank you so much! I really hope that you do get an opportunity to make it. When it comes to tools my recommendation is to buy the best one you can afford at the time. You’ll thank yourself later.
nice chair, great work, I am wondering if the bottom rail up front would be required at the back for strength? and if pegging or doweling the tenons would be worth while?
I mean it’s not really needed on the front and it’s very solid without it on the back. I think it really comes down to personal preference. If you wanted to draw bore pin the tenons that would make it worthwhile but I don’t believe pins are going to do a whole lot for strength. At that point it would just be for aesthetics.
No rail. That chair looks really nice, Shane. I also really like the thumbnail you used (at the time of posting it's the one where you are slightly faded sitting on the chair). The dad jokes are definitely an added bonus to this video. 😂
Beautiful chair, but I think the sides look a little chunky. I think back and seat being thinner really magnify the chunky ness. The lines and curves seem very good, great overall design, just wish the chair was “lighter” looking. You showed great skill and nice mix of tools and technique usage. I hope to be there someday. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks! And I appreciate the critique. I agree that there is some visual weight to the design, that was 100% intentional. I like the way that visual weight grounds the chair and reinforces the lines from the armrests. While I do love the light look of whimsical chairs that just wasn't what I was after with this one.
Yes, front rail. It is a beautiful chair and extremely well-built. Perhaps the “chunkiness” looks imbalanced because the legs do not share the same proportions as the back and seat rails. Regardless, walnut furniture is my favorite and you made a beautiful, heirloom quality piece.
Hey! At 16:00, you quickly sped through your technique for the seat and backrest joinery layout. You mention that you've gone over how you set that up kind of thing up in earlier videos. Which ones should I reference? Got any examples or tips for doing that? I'm actually working on this chair right now and am a bit intimidated by this step. Smart that you did one side at a time.
Hey, so what I was referencing there was how to lay dominos out in space. I’m sorry I don’t know off the top of my head which videos those are. But you basically want to find the center line for your dominoes for the backrest and seat rails then from there, layout one side and transfer your markings onto the other so you can be sure they align properly.
Very Wegner-esque :) Slightly harder edges - but still very nice. Reminds me a lot of Wegners 290 chair. You can add even more comfort to the seat, by using chair webbing or even elongated springs.
Thanks! That's really interesting, I hadn't seen that design but I can totally see the similarities. I have webbing on the list of things to try out so maybe you'll see that on the next chair.
@@TimberBiscuitWoodworksWegner has a lot of very beautiful work - the CH110 desk is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful statement pieces I've ever seen. And being danish, I have some national pride towards danish furniture design :D Keep up the great work
question ... I've watched a few of ur videos and think u do great work and wondered if u could offer a novice like me advice. I have basic tools, circular, jigsaw, drills etc but as far as table or miter etc I do not and that's because I am not a wood worker nor have plans to become. But with the growing prices of yard furniture, watching and learning from videos like yours has made me wonder if I should just make my own. My question is, what would be the first tool I should invest so that I can start building my own patio furniture etc?
That is a really great question. I’ll do my best to answer it in a logical way. First, I think you have to look at the type of furniture you want to build. It would make sense that you would by predimensioned lumber and since you have a circular saw, you don’t really need a tablesaw, but a miter saw would allow you frame out a lot of pieces and cut more complex joints. And since I’d recommend one or the other as a first tool, in this case I think a miter saw makes sense. But again you could go either way.
Wow love it!! Just discovered your channel and I love both your design style and your video style!! Just subbed and now going to watch through all your other videos. Thanks for the great content!
Best looking wooden chair I've ever seen! Just subbed. That's indoor right? Rubio pure isn't rated for outdoor use from what I've researched. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks so much! Yeah this is for indoor use, though there’s no reason you couldn’t finish it with some Osmo UV and use it as outdoor seating. Welcome to the channel!
Thankyou, just used Rubio for the 1st time a few days ago. So easy to apply and looks beautiful! Been trying to find a similar finish for exterior use, so Osmo sounds perfect!
No worries, yeah, Osmo UV has given me excellent results without discoloring the lumber. Application is a little different than Roubo though. I have a few videos on outdoor projects I used it on.
This is awesome! I love the design. Are the cushion covers your wife made the Sailrite "30 min box corner cushions"? They look like the ones I recently made for a lounge chair I did. Beautiful work!
So that’s a good question. I think it really depends on how comfortable you are taking the risk and going for it. Projects like this also are a great opportunity to progress in the craft so I would say go for it, but only if you feel confident.
What size dowels would you use for this? I don' thave a domino or a panty router. Or a router table either so I guess that's another question, could you do this with a handheld router?
Since it is 1 3/4" material I would go with 1/2" dowels in place of the mortise and tenon joinery. You want the dowels to be close to 1/3 the thickness of your lumber. As for the handheld router, I do think it is doable. Just take light passes and take your time. And thank you, I'm glad you liked this one.
Yes, chair rail. I am thinking about ordering your plans but I have a few questions. I have the Df500. What size dominos would you recommend in place of the tenons you made with the panto router. (Auto correct made that “panty rooter”..lol). I have not had the domino for very long and have used it a few times in smaller projects. Would you consider this a more advanced build or something someone who is just crossing the intermediate woodworker threshold could tackle? I hope that last sentence made sense.
Great questions! So I would go with the 10 x 50 mm dominoes in place of the mortise and tenon joinery. And while I don’t think this chair is overly complicated, it dose take a little bit of time. There’s nothing too crazy about it as far as a build goes though so I think you would do just fine. If you have any questions, just shoot me a message on Instagram or here and I’ll be happy to help out. And I think I’m gonna call the Panty Rooter from now on. Haha
The armrest is really interesting. I never though of needing a wider spot for your elbow than for your hand but it makes sense, usually they're all narrow or all wide. The seam is a little odd though. Would it be possible to make the armrest top all one piece with the same shape with the seam lengthwise along the side like the wider piece is?
Yeah, if had some 12/4 stock that could have been an option though I'm not sure it would have been worth the added cost and labor to make it happen. But yeah, it is definitely possible.
We might be thinking two different things. Rather than starting with this piece 9:00 thicker and hogging out all the extra to keep the entire arm as one piece including he "wing", make this piece 14:08 longer and have it be the entire length of the armrest top. you could save a little wood by avoiding the step in the top of the armrest support 9:00. @@TimberBiscuitWoodworks
Ohh, I see what you're saying. Yeah that would be another way to go about it. I like the notched top a bit more but I can see why you would lean that way.
Ahh. Just making sure I wasn't missing something. Side note, I probably won't make this chair, but that's all because of time and space. If I had more of each, I'd be all over this. Sharing/selling the plans sounds like a good idea.@@TimberBiscuitWoodworks
Holy Smokes Shane!! The dad jokes were never ending on this one!! Oh my bad I forgot to mention yes/no rail because I'm too poor to pay attention... Get it, get it?!?! And... 03:07 mark in the video I disagree. The most stressful part of the chair is the seat depending on what you've eaten Chilli, Tacos, hot peppers etc.!! Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
Absolutley amazing piece of furniture! Would really look great in my office! =) Thanks a again for great content!! I got to say that I think you are funny, I appreciate your jokes! =)
@@TimberBiscuitWoodworks it looks identical, except the back and bottom are made as two separate panels, and the side rails are separate. The back and bottom get joined, then the seat assembly is attached to the leg/arm assembly at the desired angle.no flat pieces on the arms though.
I think it is similar in that it is also a chair. I just looked at the video and that chair is built very differently. It is more of a beginner style chair with the seat floating in the center of the leg assemblies.
No problem! I like to wear stuff that is comfortable and relatively inexpensive that won't make me feel too bad if it gets ruined by glue, or finish or what not.
Before I bought a CNC I printed them out on paper and glued them to my work piece. Then I cut them out with a jigsaw or bandsaw and sanded back to my line. Nowadays I just cut them with the CNC to save time prototyping.
Help Needed for Printing Templates - I run a Mac so it may be different for Windows but I caannot get the Templates for this chair to print in their full size. Any suggestions?
Shoot me a message on the orders section of the website so I can email you directly. I use Mac as well and tile print full scale with Adobe Reader or Acrobat.
@@TimberBiscuitWoodworks From what I understand what the class is, it should be 1st class. I am a furniture manufacturer and I work at Lazzoni in Turkey, but I have never seen this much walnut, I think yours is of better quality there.
Hmm aren't the joints that you made too lose? Not a woodworker myself but watched a ton of videos and that kind of glue needs a lot of pressure in order to develop full strength and I'm afraid these are too lose. They will hold now, but later?
Sounds like you've been lied to. Glue joints really only need about 250 psi to hold tight. Granted I too am guilty of over tightening joints. In this case however, there was more than enough clamping pressure.
I really enjoy your projects and content- except the voice over. The voice over feels like its 1.5X speed, pretty jam packed with verbiage, without any grammatical pauses or full stops.
I appreciate the support man!
Hahaha, well played! Thanks man!
Absolutley amazing piece of furniture! Would really look great in my office! =) Thanks a again for great content!! I got to say that I think you are funny, I appreciate your jokes! =)
Heck yeah! Thanks for the appreciation, I love a good dad joke.
Yes chair rail.
Couldn’t agree more
Love all the dad jokes!
I mean what’s better than dad jokes and woodworking? Haha
10:45 Always looking good
Haha!
@@TimberBiscuitWoodworks 😉
the build was good... but the jokes got me to subscribe
:)
Hell yeah! Welcome to the channel!
So did you start with the chair from foureyes furniture? I’m not criticizing, just curious. I like to take ideas and adapt them to what I need.
To be honest, I’ve never seen Chris’s chair design. This is just a combination of many different sketches I made when I was designing the lounger.
Such a great channel ! I just feel the narration is a tad too fast for non native English viewers 😅
Thank you! Yeah, I have slowed down a bit since this project. I’m guilty of being a quick talker.
@@TimberBiscuitWoodworks so inspiring channel !!
Thanks!
Chair rail, yes. Nice work! Nice jokes. 😊
Nice! Thanks mate!
Yes chair rail. Great job as always. Love your videos but your jokes are killing me. Breath a little, slow down, relax you're doing a great job.
Thanks and thank you for your feedback. It’s a lot to squeeze in
Schrödinger's chair rail
Haha, that's valid.
Yes chairrail
Agreed!
hola soy de argentina me puede pasar las medidas y las planillas ,un gran trabajo me encanta un gran abrazo desde argentina
Thanks! There is a plan for this project available on my website, here’s the link: bit.ly/LoungePlan
Weird questions but what brand are your shorts? Looking for green work shorts 1:15 😂
haha I'll take a look and get back with you.
They are Goodfellow from Target
Great! thanks :)
No problem! I like to wear stuff that is comfortable and relatively inexpensive that won't make me feel too bad if it gets ruined by glue, or finish or what not.
Great build and vid...even though the Panto Router is $2500.... ;)
Thanks! Yeah it's definitely an investment.
Question how do you make your templates
Before I bought a CNC I printed them out on paper and glued them to my work piece. Then I cut them out with a jigsaw or bandsaw and sanded back to my line. Nowadays I just cut them with the CNC to save time prototyping.
Help Needed for Printing Templates - I run a Mac so it may be different for Windows but I caannot get the Templates for this chair to print in their full size. Any suggestions?
Shoot me a message on the orders section of the website so I can email you directly. I use Mac as well and tile print full scale with Adobe Reader or Acrobat.
You’re so brave …
So your wife tells me
Very nice work. Modern, classy and sofisticated...not you, the chair. See what I did there.
Haha! Well played, and I agree..
What is the type of wood
This is walnut
@@TimberBiscuitWoodworks From what I understand what the class is, it should be 1st class. I am a furniture manufacturer and I work at Lazzoni in Turkey, but I have never seen this much walnut, I think yours is of better quality there.
Oh yeah it’s a wonderful material to work with. Though, even here in the US it is quite expensive.
Another comment to request plans please
Here they are: bit.ly/LoungePlan
Hmm aren't the joints that you made too lose? Not a woodworker myself but watched a ton of videos and that kind of glue needs a lot of pressure in order to develop full strength and I'm afraid these are too lose. They will hold now, but later?
Sounds like you've been lied to. Glue joints really only need about 250 psi to hold tight. Granted I too am guilty of over tightening joints. In this case however, there was more than enough clamping pressure.
@@TimberBiscuitWoodworks I did not mean clamping. But internaly inside where joints touch each other perpendicular to the clamping pressure.
Nope, all good there too. If they are any tighter then there would be no room for glue.
Good work…the jokes- sure, why not?
All jokes aside, thank you!
Those fits are looking a little bit loose ✌️
Not at all. There has to be room for the joints to swell once glue is applied.
No chair rail,
17:07 Careful there sir sawing towards your fingers
Noted and always. 😀
I really enjoy your projects and content- except the voice over. The voice over feels like its 1.5X speed, pretty jam packed with verbiage, without any grammatical pauses or full stops. This causes a little subconscious irritation, versus a ASMR vibe. Again, love your skills, tips and tricks, and projects.
Thanks! Yeah, it’s a lot to pack into these videos. But I do appreciate your feedback.
I find your delivery very understandable, informative, and congenial. Your humor is tempered and enjoyable. Pace is fine for an English language speaker under 65yoa 😅😊
