I met Grandpa Elliott Small on the streets of New Orleans late at night in 2019. I had no idea who he was then, but I want to be like him when I grow up. He was kind, humble, cheerful, and a wonderful person.
Can you share the story of Roger and this wonderful idea? I just found it by accident, and I AM HOOKED? How, HOW, is this put together? How is it done?? Amazing...
@@MrDorbel I see very little sincerity from most of the performers in this vid.... please don't misunderstand... there is some genuine feeling... but not enough from the majority of (for lack of other words) posers
@@tonyfraser2650 You think these are posers? They can all sing and play and a lot of them earn their living as buskers, or did then. Nothing as sincere and pouring yourself into a song to put food on the table!
@@MrDorbel .. Dear Paul... I'm not sure what your argument of my opinion is about... I've done a lot of busking in my life and can certainly discern the difference between what's genuine and what's veneer.... Love and peace brother
Me too, and I was very sad to see Roger and Grandpa were both gone. I love these compilations. I don't know why Alice Tan Ridley is identified in the video, but she is Roger's sister and still with us today. She is amazing too, and such a powerful voice.
the world won't get darker ... if like this small piece with people from LA, Japan, Italy, New Orleans, NYC, Cuba brought joy to so many ... imagine what we can do to make the world a brighter place
Who is the Super GENIUS, That put this World Wide SUPERJAM Together ❤ , I just want to say THANKS!!! One of my Favorite songs, that I be Crooning quite often over the years!!!

On the other day about this and more importantly the first one to be able to do with the same thing as well as well as well as well as well as well but the other day about this. It was great to meet you at least one person who has the right to stay with you
I wish I could have heard Roger Ridley and seen him perform in person. His voice is mesmerizing, like you'd simply get stuck in space and time as you walked by, incapable of moving on until he was done singing.
I would like to have a time machine and go back to this exact moment to see Roger Ridley playing this live and say a huge THANK YOU for him. This music brings me peace.
Agreed! I always wonder no matter what is posted there are always a percentage of thumbs down even for some sweet three year old saying water is wet. Yet to these trolls or algorithmically built to automatically give a certain number of dislikes for all vids? S9mething is going on thst is not kosher with Tube.
Omg. I always thought Sam's voice was so unique that this would be a hard song to cover but holy crap Roger killed it. They were all wonderful but Roger's voice was perfect for this. What a talent. 👌
I am a lover of Sam Cooke and was just listening to him singing this and admiring his beauty at the same time. I didn't think anyone could do better. This version not only gave me chills but tears to my eyes. Thank you! From my late mother too who spent her life buried in Blues/Jazz clubs in her youth and one of the last things she did was kiss a photo of Sam Cooke and said "I LOVE THAT MAN!" I wish she was alive to hear this version. Exactly how it should be done. EXACTLY!
Forgive me folks, I'm very late to the party, but i gotta say i'm loving listening to these songs from " Playing for change ". they way they bring it all together from the performers from around the globe is just Brilliant. Jim Hill they don't have to change to keep their fans..yes the change dropped in a case is good, but seeing children dance, people smile, or just stop close their eyes and soak in the music..brings the performance more love and soul. They do it for love of music, and stay for live of music.
Watching Roger and Alice sing together was a treat. I have watched Alice busking in the NY subway for over 30yrs. I had her sing at my Library for a couple times, and have a picture with us on my desk. When I wanted to book her again 2 yrs ago. I learned from her manager, that she is sick, and cannot perform anymore. The musical legacy is on UA-cam for her grand children. I know her daughter Actress (Gabourey Sidibi) is very proud of her musical heritage.
I hope they keep doing this for the world and the hearts that are bleeding right now, its just what we need. Music is the soul of all of us. Peace brothers and sisters.
